We ordered two bowls, the black and white (swipe ➡️), they also have the extreme chili and pesto version but we weren’t feeling too adventurous.
.
Black King is an interesting take on the usual roasted garlic version. Soup is just as rich as the white version but a tad too powdery, probably from the garlic paste added to the broth. The rich soup is tasty but the squid flavour was slightly strong, overshadowing the pork bone flavours.
.
Butao King (white) - this soup is rich and not overly cloying, but slightly on the saltier end and seems a little flat in terms of layers of flavors. On the order chit, you have to indicate your preferred spice level, we’d recommend just a 1 as the spicy sauce adds a kick but too much covers the taste of the rich pork bone soup.
.
Pork shoulder was lean and tasted slightly porky, but their pork belly was exceptional. Probably stewed for hours, the fats were rendered down and had a good texture and sinful caramelised pleasure in every bite.
.
Overall, a decent place for a less pricey ramen fix, but with strong flavours meant for the heavier palettes. Working in Suntec? Skipped lunch? Worth your dinner bucks if you’re craving some ramen and don’t want to travel too far! Note that they are closed 3-5pm if you're heading down!
