First time trying Hangzhou (Jiangnan) cuisine at Nainai Flavor (椿花奶奶) @ Aperia Mall. It was quite different from the Chinese food I'm used to, with lighter and more delicate flavours.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the Clay Pot Immortal Chicken Soup. We waited about 45 minutes because it was freshly prepared, but it was rich, comforting and packed with flavour—well worth the wait.

The restaurant was packed, so be prepared to wait during peak hours. Overall, a good dining experience and a nice place to try something different. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Visited their branch at Aperia Mall. Had several dishes from this place, some hits and some misses. Loved the zha jiang mian which was just salty enough without feeling too gelat, and the immortal chicken soup which was clean and light, yet immensely flavourful. Would give the shaoxing soup dumplings and youbu style egg cake a miss though.

Also appreciated the atmospheric background music and friendly service, although food was served rather inconsistently timing-wise. Overall, wouldn’t mind coming back to try other dishes in future since it’s not as common to find places serving Hangzhou/Jiangnan cuisine.

This was my first time trying Hangzhou cuisine, and the dish that completely won me over was the Youbu Style Egg Cake.

I had never seen or tasted anything like it before. It's made fresh daily, and you can really tell. The outside had a light crispness, while the inside was soft, fluffy, and filled with egg and chicken. There wasn't anything overly complicated about it, yet every bite felt incredibly comforting. It reminded me that good food doesn't always need to be extravagant—sometimes, simplicity done well is what leaves the deepest impression.

I don't know if this is the traditional way it's made in Hangzhou, but if it is, I can absolutely understand why it's so well loved. It feels like the kind of breakfast that someone would lovingly prepare at home before starting the day.

Out of everything we ordered, this was easily my favourite. If I lived nearby, I could genuinely see myself dropping by just to have one for breakfast. It's warm, satisfying, wholesome, and filling without feeling too heavy. It's one of those dishes that quietly grows on you after every bite.

The rest of the meal was equally enjoyable. The Grandma's Secret Chicken & Pork Soup was comforting with a clean, naturally sweet broth, while the Shredded Pork Mixed Noodles and Old Shaoxing Steamed Soup Dumplings were both well executed. The Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cake made for a lovely ending, and both the Guava & Peach Drink and Lime Roselle Tea were refreshing complements to the meal.

What also stood out was the service. The waitresses were attentive throughout our meal, regularly checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. It made the dining experience feel warm and welcoming.

For everything we ordered, the pricing felt very reasonable. The portions were satisfying, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the quality easily justified the cost. It felt like excellent value for money.

This meal has definitely sparked my curiosity about Hangzhou cuisine. It was a refreshing change from the Chinese cuisines I'm more familiar with, and if there's one dish I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time, it's the Youbu Style Egg Cake. I'd happily return just for that alone.

The Grandma’s Secret Dishes (Chicken & Pork Soup) 奶奶传承神仙鸡 was the highlight of the meal. The soup was rich, comforting, and full of natural sweetness from the ingredients. The chicken was tender, while the pork added depth to the broth, making every spoonful flavourful without being overly heavy.

The Shredded Pork Mixed Noodles 肉丝拌川 was equally enjoyable. The noodles had a great texture and were perfectly stir fry with the savoury sauce. The shredded pork was tender and complemented the noodles well, creating a simple yet satisfying dish with balanced flavours.

The staff were warm, polite, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They even took the initiative to explain how the dishes were prepared. Their genuine hospitality added to the overall dining experience.

Overall, the food was delicious, comforting, and well-prepared, paired with outstanding service. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for authentic, home-style Chinese cuisine.

Was passing by the East Coast Road and came across a rather unfamiliar sight with the Sakae Sushi outlet that is located at 217 East Coast Road just right beside the Project Açai outlet there — it does seem that the establishment had recently segmented a section of their space out for the introduction of a new concept named Art of Kueh. A concept by Sakae Sushi itself, it does seem that Art of Kueh does give homage do the roots of the area that it is situated in; this would be Sakae Sushi’s first foray into serving up Peranakan cuisine. One thing worth noting is how Sakae Sushi has pretty much consolidated the dine-in experience for Art of Kueh’s patrons into its own space instead; patrons whom are ordering the Peranakan hot food offerings such as those listed in the Peranakan Set Meals, Peranakan Specialty Dishes and Peranakan Specialty Drinks can order off the same QR code leading to the online POS system that Sakae Sushi adopts for their own offerings. Patrons will however need to go to Art of Kueh’s area to order the various kueh and cakes that they have to offer — payments are also made separately to a different SG QR under the name of “Rainbow Lapis” instead.

The Nyonya Dry Mee Siam is the lowest-priced dish available on the menu of Art of Kueh’s Peranakan Specialty Dishes — Art of Kueh does not describe the elements included in the various dishes that they have to offer on their menu, though it can be observed from our order that the dish does come with elements such as sambal chili, hard-boiled egg and a single prawn. Going straight for the Nyonya Dry Mee Siam itself, we did notice that the flavours of the rice vermicelli itself was a little bit on the milder side; the slight zing that usually comes with the inclusion of tamarind does get brought out slightly stronger when one squeezes in the lime, though the inherent grainy flavours of rice vermicelli does come in closer towards the finishing notes here. What we really liked was the sambal that was included in here which came with the umami notes of crustaceans whilst also being a little sweet, a little tangy and a little bit saltish — all whilst providing a kick of spiciness that tickles the tastebuds for those whom are tolerable to lower than moderate levels of spiciness; the accompanying prawn does get drenched with the same sambal, coming reasonably fresh with a natural hint of sweetness.

Enjoyed all three dishes. The Grandma’s Secret Dishes (Chicken & Pork Soup) 奶奶传承神仙鸡 had a full-bodied soup and tender meat. The Youbu Style Egg Cake (Egg & Chicken Pancake) 游埠鸡子粿 was nicely crisp and packed with a tasty meat filling. The Traditional Style Double Boiled Pear with White Fungus 古法银耳吊梨汤 was just sweet enough, with soft pear, peach, and generous portions of fruit.

The chicken & pork soup arrives piping hot in a clay pot with an incredibly rich, nourishing broth from aged corn and cordyceps—chicken is fall-apart tender inside. Absolute must try!! The Lime Roselle Tea was nice too, with a citrus note mixed with sweet floral taste.

Had a few dishes, but enjoyed the dumplings filled with tofu as it’s quite rare to come across in Singapore and has a spicy kick to it.
