When there’s only one dish in a stall, you can be sure that it’s either very good or very bad. Luckily for us, the mentaiko salmon rice ($10) was very good! The mentaiko sauce was generous and went well with the soft salmon, the sous vide egg was made flavourful by the furikake, and while blue rice looks weird, it tasted good (not much flavour given that butterfly pea has a very slight sweet taste but that is probably for the best). All the ingredients came together for a very delicious lunch - well worth the special trip we made to have it.

According to my friend, the fact that I got a bowl of this for dinner without queueing is a very amazing coincidence so yay for that!

Anyway, I had the small ($8) bowl and it was pretty good! The noodles were springy, the noodle prawn was like fried wonton, the wonton has very generous and tasting filling, the char siew was tender, and the onsen egg was amazing!

The soup was pretty nice too - peppery and tasty.

The only thing is, I don’t really see the resemblance to ramen (apart from the Onsen egg). The noodles taste like wonton/fishball noodles, not like ramen (or even fried ramen). I would say that it’s a fairly original and definitely delicious noodle dish, but I wouldn’t think of ramen if I hadn’t read about it beforehand.

Saw this stall (真好喝/Tastes Good - couldn’t see stall number) at People’s Park and really enjoyed their grass jelly + bubbles milk tea ($3 for medium). Got the 50% sugar and it was just right - a good balance of tea, sweetening, and toppings. Would definitely come back and try other stuff from here

Both my colleagues strongly recommend the Xiao Long Bao ($4 for 6) from this stall (#01-1130) but I found it to be very dry. None of the dumplings had soup and at least two had holes in it (which obviously explains the lack of soup). The filling was flavourful, but that couldn’t make up for the rest.

Seriously my favourite char siew rice stall in Singapore. For $3.50, there’s a generous portion of thick, well-marbled cuts of meat with a sweet sauce. Unhealthy but soooo good.

My colleague and I dropped by this bakery after work and decided to try the tea time set (available from 2:30 to 5:30). For $12.30 including taxes and GST, we got one cake, one bun, and two teas (you can get coffee too).

The cake was Rose Tea Cake, which was delicious! The cake was very moist, especially the bottom layer, and it reminded me of 1872 Clipper’s Garden tea.

The bun was the chocolate dirty bun, which was a mess to eat but good too! I really liked the chocolate filling, which was rich and not too sweet. The pastry was like a croissant and went well with all the chocolate.

The tea we had was old-school. No choice of blend but it tasted okay.

If you’re planning to visit with a friend, I’d recommend coming for tea! It’s really worth it!

My colleague recommended this stall and it was delicious! I got the ABC Pork Ribs soup ($3.50) and the soup was very tasty and sweet. The pork (which was plentiful) was tender and surprisingly not dry at all! The carrots and corn were also sweet, although the potato was a little too hard for my liking. The pumpkin rice ($0.80) was tasty and had large chunks of sweet pumpkin inside as well. The portion of rice was also generous - I couldn’t finish it!

Can’t wait to try the other soups!

My manager doesn’t eat cake, so when she enthusiastically recommended the cakes at Whisk, I had extremely high hopes. It was hard to make a choice, but I decided to go with the Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50).

The cake was very light and more-ish. The cream was great and went well with the strawberries. But since this was pricier than my lunch opposite Whisk, it felt rather expensive. (EDIT: I had lunch at the hawker center, so going from that to a cafe made the cakes feel expensive. But I was talking about it to some friends and I realised that $6.50 for a slice of cake of that size and quality is in-line with other cafes, so it’s not like it’s an exorbitant price)

I also managed to sneak a bite of the cheesecake. The cheesecake is very, very dense and the crust doesn’t have as much flavour as I would like, so this isn’t for me.

Overall, I would be interested in coming here again, since I would like to try the cookies, eclairs, and scones too.

Read about this stall in Burpple and decided to try it because I’m all about unhealthy food. The uncle prepares each dish individually, which means a slightly longer waiting time but it means that your food is freshly prepared.

I was pleasantly surprised at how many while oysters there were, considering I got the cheapest option. The portion is on the small side, but was just right for me (if I were sharing, however, I’d probably want to get the $6 portion).

Tea Chapter has a tea appreciation course which takes place over several days, but if you don’t have that much time (like me), they also have a tea appreciation workshop that takes place over several hours. There are two options and I went for the one that lets me sample six teas and cost $60+

The workshop consisted of:
- the history of tea: this was lecture style and focused on the history of tea in China
- hands-on section on how to drink and appreciate the different types of tea: the six types of tea we drank were white, yellow, oolong (made using a zisha pot, the tea was their imperial golden cassia), black (red guan yin), green (longjing), and dark (pu-er).
- free time for us to try brewing the tea. They gave us tea eggs and a variety of tea cookies to go with the tea. There didn’t seem to be a time limit so it was a good time to have a chat with a friend over tea.

The Shifu was very knowledgable and made the entire workshop interesting and fun. He speaks both English and Chinese so you can opt to have the workshop in either language.

I would recommend this to people looking for a fun way to get into tea appreciation.

While waiting at Wow Wow West for my lunch, I saw the muffins by Muffin Haus and couldn’t resist buying a chocolate oreo muffin ($1.50) to try. The muffin was fairly moist and still soft inside (although I ate it at night) and I liked the rich chocolate flavour which wasn’t overly sweet. That said, my mom tried a bite and felt that it wasn’t sweet enough, so if you’ve got a sweet tooth, it may not be for you.

(That said, I’m probably gonna try more flavours from here since it suits me)

I was afraid this would be a bit too sweet/rich but it turned out to be DELICIOUS. I really wish I could eat seconds (maybe thirds?). The warm cookie and chocolate goes well with the banoffee ice cream.

Definitely coming back!
