Double Scoop ($8)
.
Newly opened @monarchsandmilkweedgelato in the hood brings about a Birds of Paradise vibe with its earthy decor and unique flavours. Think rhubard buttermilk, tahitian vanilla and brown butter sage. We went for the ispahan and hazelnut. Hazelnut is velvety smooth and not overly sweet. Ispahan was aromatic with lychee bits and raspberry swirl

Prawns and Scallop Laksa ($11)
.
Return visit to @donsignaturecrab to try the popular claypot laksa. Gravy is the watery kind but still full of flavour. Ingredients was a but disappointing with just 3 prawns, a scallop, tau pok and some fish cake slices. Overall still delightful especially with a side order of fried mantou to mop up the gravy

Mac Kobe ($42)
.
A decadent spin on the otherwise common mac and cheese @themalayancouncil . The mac and cheese here is tossed with spicy tulang (bone marrow) merah topped with grilled kobe beef and torched mozzarella. Loved this ultra rich version though the portion is best shared amongst 3 at least. The umami from the bone marrow was evident in every mouthful and the spicy gravy balanced well with the cheesiness. The most unforgettable part of this dish is the kobe beef slices, each perfectly seasoned and cooked to just the right doneness.

Samsui Ginger Chicken ($42.90)
.
Crowd favourite samsui chicken @souprestaurantsg . Not sure whether the pricing for a large portion is usually this pricey as we ordered off the cny menu. Portion is good for 4-5 pax. My favourite way to eat this is to use the lettuce to wrap a piece of chicken and some sliced cucumber then douse the ginger sauce generously on top. I always feel that it’s a pity that there’s no chicken rice chilli accompanying this dish. Super flavourful lettuce wrap reminiscent of hainanese chicken rice.

Teochew Steamboat
.
CNY steamboat at Teochew Traditional Steamboat Restaurant to save all the hassle of prep work and cleaning up. The walls of this restaurant adorned with countless photos of celebrities who dined here is testament to the popularity of this place. Soup base is a rich shark bone broth full of collagen and they serve up an array of homemade balls and pastes. Also on the menu is some ready to eat dishes like the fried wontons and brinjal with pork floss. Both are must orders here. Items are priced quite economically so it’s a real good deal to have spent reunion dinner here.

Frog Porridge ($22)
.
Been a while since porridge weather came back. My go-to place for frog porridge is always Sinma G-7 frog porridge. We get 5 frogs for $22 and can split the frogs to be cooked in spicy and non-spicy styles. Frog meat is tender and juicy. Especially love mixing the slurpworthy gravy into the porridge.

Mentaiyaki Kaisendon Set ($29.90)
.
The #burpplebeyond sets @keikaisendon.sg may seem pricey but getting 1-for-1 makes this really worth the while. We ordered the signature kaisendon and mentaiyaki kaisendon. I really enjoyed the mentai version and the fish tasted fresh. The set also comes with salad, soup. a chicken skewer and tea. Great value overall.

Charcoal Grilled Dried Atka Mackeral Set ($17.90)
.
The best seller at Charcoal Grill and Salad Bar and it’s no sweat to understand why. Probably one of the most value for money mid tier priced selection as the portion of fish is large and full of meaty fish chunks. There was quite a lot of deboning to do but it was still worth the effort. I enjoyed having my rice topped with their seaweed salad and the onsen egg while savouring the smokey fish meat. Also, my 2 favourites at the salad bar are the tuna corn pasta and the coffee jelly dessert.

Nasi Lemak Set for 2 ($28)
.
Been years since my last visit to @sinpopobrand but my decision on what to order remained the same. Craving that luncheon meat crisps and the abundance of side dishes that came with the nasi lemak set, ordering this was a no-brainer. The set came with rojak, curry potatoes, sambal fishballs, luncheon meat crisps, marinated pork belly and har cheong chicken. Har cheong chicken here is one of the best I’ve had. Fragrantly pungent, plump and juicy with a fluffy light crispy crust. Luncheon meat crisps is such an addictive snack to munch on and the marinated pork belly portion was just so generous. Oh did I also mention the rice served with a soft centered egg? The rice is free flow and reminded me of the rice from nasi lemak packets wrapped jn banana leaf except this was served warm.

Melon Fruit Latte ($5.80)
.
Freshly made melon fruit latte at the newly opened @steepedteabar . Refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness (opt for no added sugar). Latte is made with melon puree and hokkaido milk. Also loving the space with its muji-ish decor!
