It's rather rare to find a place that sells kampong chicken. The skin of the chicken is soft and silky, meat is tender and juicy (maybe due to the fact that it's kampong chicken). The rice, to my surprise, it's not too oily but at the same time rather fragrant. Definitely value for money and a healthier alternative if you're craving for some Hainanese chicken rice.
Red wine braised chicken with some vegetables and roasted mushrooms. This dish has a rather hearty portion, filled with packs of flavours. It also comes with a choice of mashed potato or baguette as a side, and a bowl of soup.
This place here serves Chinese style nasi lemak. You will definitely be spoilt for choices with the amount of dishes you can choose from. Crispy fried chicken wings, stir fried sambal brinjal, savoury otah were the dishes I chose. If only the rice were as fluffy and coconutty as the ones we find in a Malay store, then it would be the perfect combination.
One of the better nasi padang I ever had. There were so many dishes that I could choose from, every dish in that store was so tempting. I ordered the combination of Sambal Goreng, Brinjial Balado and the BBQ chicken. Each dish has it's own unique taste and it's just a burst of flavours when you put everything together.
Tip: order the tahur telur, you will be surprised and taken away by how good this side dish is.
Fluffy coconutty rice, crispy tender chicken(winglet & drumstick), sunny side up, crunchy ikan bilis with peanuts, combined with sweet & spicy sambal. It's an explosion of flavours when you have all these in a bite. The rice is definitely to die for! I would definitely be back for more of this plate of awesomeness.
Finally hopped on the hype on Omurice and boy I must say, wasn't regretting it one bit. With an additional top-up of $2, I chose my egg to be "lava style", which resulted my omu to be silky and flowy. The combination of the omu with the tomato rice pretty good. However the beef burger patty was a little too tough for my liking. The demiglaze sauce was a tad bit on the salty side of the flavour spectrum.
Stumbled upon this little jem while out looking for a place for lunch. Although the store is situated in a little store space, it's hard not to miss it because of the long queue of hungry customers.
Ordered a combination of Hainanese pork chop, cabbage, fried egg, fish cake 五香, and of course drizzled with loads of curry sauce.
I was expecting some tender pork chop but instead I was offered some really crispy textured pork chop which gave the whole dish the much needed crunch. The curry sauce was on point, with subtle hints of coconut and a tad of spicyness.
The sashimis in this chirashi don can't get any fresher, you could literally taste the ocean with every bite of it.
Senmi Sushi is currently having a 1 for 1 chirashi don promotion. All you have to do is download the Marina Square mobile app to redeem it. Promotion ends on the 31/01/2018.
Priced at four or five dollars, this store cooks up a mean plate of wanton noodle with a generous serving of char siew.
Meat well charred, sweet and tender. Springy noodles with good amount of sauce. Near to perfect balance of savoury and sweet from the meat, noodle and sauce combination . Home made wanton with the right amount of filling. However, if only they could be as generous on their wanton (only two pieces of wanton on my plate) as they did with their char siew.
But be warned, a long queue is expected if you are visiting this store during the lunch hour.
If you are seeking for an affordable and good vegetarian fare, Hong Yi Vegetarian is the store to go to. Ordered four dishes with kway teo and it only cost me $3.50!
Loved the vegetable curry sauce, it's light, sweet and filled with hints of coconut flavours.
The store has a variety of side dishes for you to choose from, you will be definitely spoilt with choices. However there were three side dishes that caught my eye and they were simply irreistable. I had the Hainanese Pork Chop, Sotong and cabbage combination, drizzled with their in-house Hainanese Curry sauce.
Pork Chop, well seasoned, crispy and tender at the same time. Curry sauce, sweet and a little spicy. Sotong, fresh, soft and chewy. It's the perfect combination when you have a little of everything in your mouth.
It's no wonder customers are willing to queue, stand in the hot sun and onto the road, just to get their hands on this plate of awesomeness.
Ordered this dish from Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup. The store uses sea bass for their fried fish, giving it a slightly chewier texture. The fried egg was the star for this dish, although soaked in the soup, it was still slightly crispy and that eggy flavour was just too irresistible . Soup was flavourful, sweet and salty(probably from the seasoning of the fried fish) at the same time. All in all, it was a little too salty for my liking.
