Posting this throwback after seeing (and loving) Jayne's awesome get-up at last night's Burpple Christmas Partaye. Yes, her human dosa even came complete with chutneys! Anyways, this Masala Dosa is the ultimate. And it is huuuuge; definitely substantial for one person. I'd underestimated that and ordered their eggplant rice as well. Had to pack the rice in the end ā˜ŗļø

What set this dosa apart is its crispy texture, which wasn't paper-thin and had a nice bite to it. A buttery aroma (oh gleeful ghee) permeated the entire shell which housed soft spiced potato filling, turning the humble dosa into an indulgent, and very satisfying treat.

"How is it that I took so long to try this gem of a creation?!", screamed the voice inside my head when I first tasted this soft serve-meets-eggette treat. Inspired by Oddies Foodies, no doubt, but delicious all the same with its own innovative spin.

Matcha Soba ($5.20 in cup) is the current rotating flavour, and I sure hope it becomes a permanent one. The earthy matcha fragrance, softened by lush milkiness, left behind an alluring trace of bittersweetness that made me yearn for more. This flavour comes with a sprinkle of dried buckwheat puffs that added a lovely toasty flavour. My other choice of adornments include the yuzu jelly, adzuki, and Gula Melaka sago (all at $1 each), which formed a nice combination, except for the latter which was muted out by the potent matcha-ness.

Also praiseworthy was the Puffle ($3), which remained crisp even after awhile, with soft mochi-like pockets imbued with cinnamon, a characteristic that sets it apart from the HK eggette. My choice of complimentary sauce was speculoos, which of course, makes everything even better. ā¤ļø

The first time I tried an acai bowl was at Project Acai, where I decided that eating clean wasn't really for me. Am glad I gave it second go at Haakon, because I found theirs to be really enjoyable, like a berry smoothie in a bowl with none of that grassy taste I'd experienced previously. Love the caramelised notes in the crunchy granola; the coconut chia seed pudding added a subtle fragrance and texture to it as well. Jazz up your bowl with add-ons ($1 each) like cacao nibs and almond butter—I recommend the latter, which adds a delicious nutty & savoury edge to it.

I found just the perfect dish to perk up any dreary Monday like this. Every sip of the dark brown-coloured stock was a build up of flavours—deepened with fish sauce, fried garlic, lard (score!), and hints of cinnamon, and soaked up beautifully by the thin, chewy rice noodles. Lots to love about this bowl, because they certainly don't stinge on the beef—tender beef slices, tripe, beef balls fill it with plenty of bovine satisfaction.

There are places that dish up comfort food, and then there are those that do it well. After Ego's rendition was set up for success right from the get-go—the aromatic white bread was specially sourced, then toasted to a crisp golden brown with a soft center, from which a luscious pool of cheese (your choice of Gruyere or Taleggio) oozes languidly.

I highly recommend the braised beef short rib add-on ($5) for a heightened experience. The fall-apart tender beef added delectable flavour, elevating the humble grilled cheese to cult grub status.

Tater tots are essentially fried potatoes, and who can say 'no' to these? Especially when they sound like cute potato babies gone rogue.

One of my top picks among those we've tried. As described on the menu, the crispy potato nuggets were "doused mercilessly in spicy jalapeƱo cheese sauce", studded with maple-glazed bacon, and topped with sour cream and a splash of hot sauce—comfort food at its best.

The name Pizza Fries ($14) got us all excited when we heard that it was coming our way. And my oh my, was it a sight to behold when it arrived at the table.

This is the stuff of dreams for cheese fries lovers—imagine freshly fried, crisp fries covered in a blanket of three cheeses: Mozzarella, gruyere, and parmesan, and topped with smoky pork pepperoni. Rest assured that every spud you pick will be coated with luscious, melty cheese, with which they are VERY generous. So good with the accompanying house-made bacon ketchup, that's savoury with bursts of tanginess.

Warning: These guys are super addictive. Lay off these if you're on a diet.

Brined, twice-baked and tossed in spicy & tangy buffalo marinade. The wings were really not that spicy, which was good for me because I weep at the slightest bit of spice. I enjoyed dunking them into the creamy homemade ranch sauce šŸ‘Œ

Spent a good part of the afternoon with the #BurppleTastemakers, checking out this hot new foodie joint at Esplanade Mall, aptly named 'Alter Ego'—the second outfit from the folks behind 'A Poke Theory'. While the latter makes #eatingclean cool, its alter ego is all about striking a balance by offering both "Eat Clean" and "Indulge Dirty" menus. What a genius way to satisfy everyone at the table.

Here's the ultimate dirty dish, Fried Chicken Skin ($8), which, hands down, was my favourite of the 12 dishes we had. Rubbed and fried with a southern spice mix, the crisp chicken skin was light and crazily addictive, perfect with beer (do check out the interesting selection of craft beers & ciders here). Highly recommended.

Thank you Nobelle for inviting & hosting us, @burpple for organising this eatup, and @cassakating for being our hand model! šŸ™†

Been yearning to meet this thing of beauty the first time we clapped eyes on fellow Tastemaker @veronicaphua's feed, and it was simply a glorious moment when we finally did.

The Cheese & Tomato Pesto Panini ($12) is a meatless option, but it's packed with such great flavours you don't feel that you're missing out on anything. The fragrant sundried tomato miche (a type of French sourdough) was grilled to a light crisp with soft insides, generously filled with baby spinach and juicy tomatoes, as well as an oozing mixture of buffalo mozzarella and Monterey Jack cheese. What brought in the home run for me was the delicious housemade tomato & cashew pesto, which made it all too irresistible.

At a glance, Souperstar looks like a Soup Spoon spin-off, but a closer look at the extensive menu reveals an interesting, well-thought out concept that's sure to fly. Seriously. From hearty soups, salads, sandwiches, bread baskets, to POPIAH. The latter four items can be ordered a la carte or paired with soups to form a set. There's even a category dedicated to stews – specifically Asian style, think Braised Beef Brisket, Black Pepper Chicken, and Thai Red Curry Chicken, all served with three-grain rice and mini salad.

I zoomed in straight to the Soup + Popiah combo, of which you can choose to go Solo (Medium sized at $6.5) or Ban Ban (Two half portions at $8). Out of the seven soups, I chose the Classic French Onion and Creamy Tomato Basil. Both were absolutely delicious. The Onion one was simmered with herbs and white wine and was naturally sweet, flavourful, and very more-ish. It also came with a buttery cheese crouton, perfect for soaking up the goodness. Tomato was mouthwateringly delicious, infused with sweet basil to balance out the tanginess of crushed tomatoes.

And the popiah. Ermergerddd I can't stress enough how genius of an idea this is. Made with 100% handmade popiah skin, you can choose from the Traditional (with the works), or modern interpretations like Sesame Chicken, Sweet Thai Chicken, and Seafood Wasabi Mayo. The popiah was expertly rolled and didn't fall apart easily—kudos to the well-trained staff. Taste-wise, it was spot on and very well-balanced. It's quite like Qiji but less sweet. I dare say it's even better than most of them out there. My only gripe was the popiahs were served whole, a la burrito-style, which I didn't like so I'd requested for them to slice it the proper way. Yeah, I do treat my popiahs very seriously.

The dizzying selection of sweets made choosing extremely tough; it didn't help that they all seemed to have my name on it! Eventually settled on what we felt would be a refreshing end to a filling meal, and it sure didn't disappoint. The yuzu curd bore the right amount of zest – bright, yet not cringe-inducing. The meringue was really lovely as well; it tasted like toasted marshmallows šŸ˜ Can't wait to try the other cakes and bakes. The chocolate fudge cake and coconut cake (with liquor!) beckon especially.
