This was not on the menu but we requested for our seafood roll to be replaced with only lobster because we just can't get enough of lobsters. I love it when the size of the roll is based on the weight of the lobster flesh. This is unlike restaurants that are stingy with the amount of lobster, and most of the roll is lettuce and heaps of mayonnaise. You can actually taste the sweetness of the lobster with each bite along with the lightly buttered bun and accompanying mayonnaise!
Splurged on the hot seafood platter ($150) shared between 2 of us. It was so satisfying especially the lobster! This set comes with salad and fries. It was so huge that the claw was dangling off the plate! The scallops were seared perfectly, buttery and well-seasoned. The baked oysters were also one of my favourites! The tuna was a little too overcooked though. Everything was so fresh there was no trouble clearing every bit of sweet flesh off the crustaceans!
At my favourite ramen restaurant and ordered this as a side dish. It's pretty good coming from a ramen specialty stall! Delicious sauce and the leeks are really sweet and juicy. The chicken meat could be more tender. A good side dish to go with my ramen, the best yakitori I've had is still at Hibiki. Bari Uma is having a free Aji Tama with every purchase of a ramen till Dec 2016!
One of my favourite restaurants to go to in town when on a budget. No service charge or GST for a cheap, quick and fuss-free meal. The BBQ pork set ($7) here is consistently tender and the sauce is not overly sweet. But it was a little too fatty for me.
Creamy minced fatty tuna gunkan with spring onions enhancing the taste of the tuna. $2.80. Their big salmon sushi is still more worth it!
The tarts here are so visually appealing!Had their signature blood orange tart, raspberry mousse and salted egg yolk tart. The blood orange mousse was so soft and smooth above the unique and crumbly matcha crust. The salted egg yolk tart was totally amazing! It was served HOT, means runny custard top and extra crispy tart base! I found the raspberry tart base a little too tough though the mousse had several layers of different flavors and textures. Though they specialise in tarts, their macarons ($2.50) are surprisingly good too! Great macaron shells but the salted chocolate one can be a little more salty. Friendly lady at the counter has a sweet smile.
What I like about eating bara chirashi don is that each mouth is like melodious harmony of flavours and textures. This Bara Chirashi don is not overly marinated, so you are able to taste the freshness of each sashimi chunk. The toasted sesame sprinkles gave the dish a bright nutty flavor. Furthermore, the addition of pickled radish and cucumbers added a refreshing crunch. There was a generous topping of ikura that made this bowl super satisfying!
Sweet hotate topped with juicy ikura on top of sushi rice wrapped around tamagoyaki and creamy avocado. The hotate and ikura had so much flavour that it didnt matter what was inside the dragon roll actually. Nonetheless, the avocado and tamagoyaki added extra smooth texture to the sushi roll. An excellent creation!!
It was monday so.... 75% off salmon sashimi!!!!!!!! Thick and juicy salmon sashimi tasted like heaven I also ordered the unagi sushi roll set. The unagi on top was really thick and fluffy so each piece of roll was bursting with sweet unagi goodness. Totally worth me queuing 45 minutes for this meal!
The buckwheat noodles are freshly handmade so they are soft and springy. On weekends are there will be lunch crowd but I didnt need to wait very long since the restaurant interior is quite big. The portion of soba was generous and the dipping sauce was tasty and not overpowering with sweet mirin. Best eaten with their signature Mugi-cha in a traditional tea pot!
You can choose to top up a small amount to add sashimi slices to the dinner set. A comfortable and quiet restaurant to dine in. Waiter was patient and friendly when I asked the different kinds of sashimis included in the dinner set.
Took quite long for them to thaw the sashimi maybe because we were one of the few customers there at that timing. I would prefer it to be even more fatty but the large piece of sashimi was able to make me more than happy.
