Essentially the chocolatey equivalent of Christmas morning. The jewel box reveals liquid rum emulsion by way of in-mouth squirtage once you bite it, and you get to chew the chocolate box with the naughty fluid still swishing around. The relatively bitter chocolate mousse ball has an ice cream-esque texture, and hides a secret caramelized banana centre that is more fruit than mush. Flawlessly executed. 4.3/5

The cake was smooth and rich, with no bitchy upstaging drama going on - the passionfruit dominates for the first few seconds in your mouth but eventually cedes to the cheese at the end. We were told to try the cake by itself and separately with the cocoa nibs for contrast, and I quite enjoyed the cocoa nibs, which tasted sticky and slightly burnt. Quite a triumph. 4.3/5

Even with a little milk, the medium acidity of the Fuzzy Wuzzy blend is apparent. Quite lovely. #thelokal #cafehoppingsg #cafehopping #1_cafe #sgcafe #burpple

Generously filled with red beans and topped off with a scoop of ice cream, the mochi bits and sliced red dates add to the texture and flavours in this little bowl. Can't wait to have this again!

Hot chili beef has always been my all time favorite. This fries is really naughty 😏 because it's so addictive!!

The overall flavour of this burger was absolutely lip-smacking, with a well-seasoned beef patty dripping with an addictive house-made tomato sauce and spicy mayo. But the glaring problem that compromised the whole experience was the overcooked beef - my supposedly medium patty turned out well-done, as did my friend's medium-rare. And really, at $20++, the best you could do was serve it in a fast food-style wrapper?! Tsk.

Crabstick, raw salmon, cucumber and avocado tucked in a roll of rice and seaweed, with half-grilled salmon and mentaiko on top. This is nice, but I definitely prefer Koh Grill's Shiok Maki, because the excessive torched mentaiko sauce on that one is so much more, well, shiok.

The bara here features triangular cuts of sashimi that are thicker, chunkier and slightly more raggedy around the edges than the usual neat cubes of fish at other Japanese joints. I prefer this to the normal chirashi, which can get too jelat.

Recently, I had a terrible craving for this again, so off to Botan I went. As they had run out of tuna, swordfish was offered as a substitute but I declined, opting to have just the salmon and yellowtail. For some reason, the sesame dip was exceptionally delicious that night; slightly thicker in consistency. At $25++ (price has risen slightly), I still think this is one of the best around in the "raw fish in ricebowl" category.
