Tender frog legs in hotpot! Thinking of giving Ge Lao Guan (Bugis) a try after this? Ge Lao Guan delivers a bold, full-flavoured hotpot experience with a broth selection that leans rich and intense. The beef tallow broth is deeply savoury with a smoky, meaty undertone, while the Shanghai tomato broth provides a tangy-sweet balance that rounds out the meal nicely. Fresh bullfrog turned out tender and clean, holding up well in both broths. The 50cm crispy pork strips arrived golden and crunchy — a fun pre-hotpot bite. Bread tofu with salted egg yolk prawn paste was rich and creamy, soaking up flavour with ease. The tender beef and beef tripe were sliced well for quick cooking, staying juicy and satisfying. The triple beef platter and assorted meatball platter offered good variety, and the fried egg with Fuling pickled mustard added a nostalgic, savoury punch. Vegetables were fresh and rounded out the meal with balance. Century ice jelly served as a light, herbal end to the meal. For drinks, Strawberry Bliss leaned sweet and fruity, while the Pineapple Jasmine Lemon Tea was bright with a citrusy finish.

It is airy and puffy on the inside with a pleasantly crisp exterior. The curry filling is a unique blend of 30 carefully selected spices, developed through multiple rounds of experimentation to achieve its deep, rich, and savoury profile. It also contains pork and beef, giving it a meaty texture. And, of course, the melted cheese adds an extra layer of savouriness, aesthetic appeal, and a playful cheese pull. TBH, I found the filling inside the bun to be on the lighter side, possibly to maintain balance and prevent it from spilling out due to weight distribution. Still, I wish they provided more. The bun's crispy texture is specially formulated to achieve the right crunch, avoiding traditional breadcrumbs for a better bite. The buns were originally priced at $5.60 each but are now available at $3.60. I find this price reasonable, but at the original price, I would think twice. That said, I wouldn't go out of my way just for them, but I might pick one up if I happen to be in the area. Feeling thirsty? Their Ya Shi Xiang Lemon Tea ($2.20) is sweet, zesty, and refreshingly chilled. I also agree with others regarding the individual eating paper bag (not the box). It has an unpleasant smell, almost like stale oil, which is quite off-putting. It could ruin the experience, so it’s best to skip the bag and eat it with your hands instead. One of the best ice-cream in SG Bought the Summer Berries and Sesame Mochi. Thick and creamy, flavours are natural and unique as well. Summer Berries have the perfect mix of sweetness and sourness. Fast-service and cosy interior as well!
