THESE ANIMAL SHAPED BAOS ARE THE CUTEST! 🤩 If you are in Chinatown, pop by @dough_magic_official for their assortment of steamed buns, fried doughsticks and flower rolls! For $1.50 per pop, you can get your hands on this derpy-looking Yaya Salted Egg Custard Bun, served piping hot and pillowy from the steamer. 🐤💛The salted egg custard was decently flowy, though it leaned towards the milkier & sweeter side rather than the savory salted egg tones.

🦐🍜Managed to reach before the long queue struck at 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles and got myself a dry version of Prawn Mee with $2 add on prawns! The noodles were cooked slightly softer than my preference, but still very shiok when eaten with their sambal & lard bits (asked for no ketchup so I can enjoy the savory and spicy homemade chili in its unadulterated form). I lazy to peel prawns, so I am always happy to have my prawns fully peeled and butterflied in half.😆

Got really excited when I saw the orangey hue of the broth as the owner poured into the bowl! It tasted as good as it looked, packed with distinct authentic sweetness from the prawns which I enjoyed - guess it’s a sign that I should order the soup version next time!

Friend N got the Melty Beef Curry Rice. While drenched in the robust curry gravy, the Black Angus beef chunks were not gamey while retaining its melt-in-the-mouth tender mouthfeel!

AFFORDABLE AND YUMMY Japanese Curry Rice within the SMU campus? If you haven't heard of Kuro Kare @kurokare, this place serves a DAMN FINE curry! 🍲 Also, SMU @sgsmu students get an additional $2 discount for every item!

You might notice the much darker hue of the curry roux generously ladled onto every plate! Due to the 36-hour cooking process, the gravy is umami-packed with a pronounced sweetness from the caramelised onions (which explains the darker colour of the gravy) and finished with a mild earthy kick from the combination of spices. Goes really well with the available protein options, such as their appropriately named K.F.C. (Kuro Fried Chicken)! 😆🐔 The chicken katsu also hits the spot with a light & crispy panko cladding over the chunky chicken meat.

First time visiting People’s Park Food Center post-renovation and went back for the old favorite Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu 永祥興豆腐! Despite the long queue formed way before it’s open for business, service was quick and you can get this simple bowl of comfort at $6.

While you can’t choose the ingredients unlike most yong tau foo stalls, the variety and loaded portion (10 pcs) here will leave your tummies satisfied. The clear soup base is flavorful yet light, complementing the deep fried items, bouncy QQ fishballs and tofu. Tofu can be hit & miss for YTF but I can guarantee theirs is fresh with a silken texture and accompanied by a decent portion of fish/meat paste - definitely my favorite item!

They do not come with carbs options like rice or noodles, so you’d have to order that from other stalls!

Sadly, we didn't get to try the Thai fishcakes which were OOS but we enjoyed their Moo Ping, which comes with sweet savory marinate over the lightly charred and tender pork! Will definitely be back for more!

Pork lovers 🐷-- you got to order the Grilled Pork Jowl. While this is commonly found in most Thai places, NangLen's version stands out from the rest with the smoky flavour, qq texture and the sauce.

Hard to pick a favourite here but if there's one dish you MUST TRY, it's their Tom Yum Mama Regular - this SLAPS so hard that it feels like a mini Jeh O Chula experience! 🔥 We ordered the one person serving and were shook by the generous portion! It's huge enough to feed the two of us with a generous helping of noodles, roast pork slices and seafood! The soup is more zesty than spicy and kicks harder than Tony Jaa. Super drinkable and the staff will TOP UP YOUR SOUP TOO.

The sides crowning the Wagyu Grain Bowl were equally well executed, but the star is the slab of wagyu steak grilled to medium rare. Not a beef eater myself, but I trust bb's judgement if she says it's good! For the price point, the grain-fed wagyu served was pretty reasonable portion-wise and is decently tender & juicy, though slightly chewy at some parts.

This place at Tanjong Pagar serves up one of the BEST ROSTI! Read about South Side Keppel @southsidekeppel from my feed and decided to drop by for our anniversary celebration! Some rostis I have tried so far are a bit greasy and hence get cloying after a while, so I appreciate that theirs wasn't! The russet potato pancake comes with an ultra-crispy golden crust complemented by a fluffy & flavorful inside and paired with sour cream and a fresh lemon wedge. Got my Switz Rosti with Smoked Salmon for the added burst of cured briny saltiness, but go for the likes of Wagyu or Grilled Salmon.

While I was pleasantly surprised by the light and savoury cheese foam chantilly filling in the 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 🖤 variant, I felt that a more pronounced sesame flavour would have provided more balance. Baked walnut bits add a nice contrasting crunch.

As a matcha lover, I couldn't resist their 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 🍵 roll! While the chiffon & cream carried subtle earthy matcha notes, it was balanced out by the chunk of nama chocolate which was rich without being exceptionally bitter. Also, the vibrant green colour is always a plus point for me.
