Soup for 1 pax ($6.50) was lightly herbal but rich in flavour from the pork bones. Not overly peppery in your face like some trying to hide some pig's umpit smell.

The Sesame Oil Chicken ($6.90) lived up to my expectations and it was bursting with flavours using quality sesame oil and caramelized black soy sauce. Best with a bowl of rice and just drench it with the gravy lah, screw the calories!

Mee Sua ($2.90) was a little pricey for a plain bowl but the soup it came in was comforting. Bean curd could be a little more softer would be nice and the salted veg was on point. Will try the dry version the next time I'm there! Overall very good and enjoyed a 5% discount for Liking their FB page. Gave them 5 stars recommendation and review also. Best of all, the owner hires ex-offenders, which to me as a fellow F&B owner, knows its very difficult and disruptive. Kudos to him and hope they keep up their good work!

And Mala Hotpot is one of them which I eat almost every week, even before the Haidilao trend together with SzeChuan chain 幸香汇came about.

I was invited to try this Chinese heroes themed Mala Hotpot place called SG Hotpot Heroes. They took over the space previously occupied by The Wicked Grill along Tanjong Katong and Goodman Road. Interesting part is most of the dishes are names of a certain idiom, Confucius quote or some martial arts move/item. For example, 倚天剑or 乾坤大挪移or how about 草船借鉴? The owner is very in touch with her Chong Qing roots and the sauces and, soup bases are made from the same factory that supplies some of the big names in China.

Overall food is delicious here with a little creativity added to create interactivity. For those craving for Hotpot this weekend, go check this place out. I like the Mala and mushroom broths! For more pics, check out my post on eatwithroy FB page.

Partly it's because of the menu expansion which has Zichar dishes inside and apart from the signature chicken, their Curry Fish Head is one of their hot sellers now too!

Do check out their crabs too, fried in different ways with loads of wok hei and the Sambal Kang Kong. There's a dish for everyone!

The potato chips one is better than the fish skin. But in terms of taste, I'm sticking to @crustys_ ones cos the crispness is very uniform and tasty. And also the latter is cheaper!
