At $9, this is not exactly cheap. So thanks to Burpple beyond 1-1 deal! Two Bake Boyâs matcha mille was served with a pouch of matcha sauce. Thatâs a nice addition to the already laudable mille crepe. If I were to compare this to Lady Mâs, Ladyâs M crepe layers are a lot thinner and âlighterâ, way more âairyâ- perhaps thatâs also why their mille crepes are priced a lot more expensive too! Flavour wise, Two Bake Boyâs mille crepes fared well, tho not as great as Lady Mâs. I would give other flavours a chance - am looking forward to the Taro flavour next!
At a pretty hefty price tag of $8/pc, the Soya chiffon definitely did not disappoint in terms of the quality ingredients used. There were desiccated coconut bits by the side which added a nice mouthfeel to the soft chiffon cake. Unfortunately, the coconut fragrance wasnât pronounced. Same goes to the soya bean chiffon cake too - there wasnât any hint of âsoya beanâ fragrance. Overall, tasted like a normal sponge cake which definitely paled in comparison to Swee Hengâs soya bean chiffon cake. A tad disappointing! The saving grace is perhaps the cream which came atop of the chiffon cake - which added some touch of âluxeâ but again, did not provide added dimension to the flavour. I saved the other half for the next day (kept the cake refrigerated). As it turns out, the cake was rather dry and falls apart with each bite the next day. Itâs sad!
New find and no-frills Japanese sandwich. It reminds me of onigiriâs cousin - rectangular in shape (instead of triangular), with more substantial ingredients than its triangular counterpart. I like how the seaweed wasnât rubbery even after being âexposedâ for quite some time. Tamago was sweet, thicc and awesome. Grilled beef was done well - but a tad overly done as there were some parts that tasted a lilâ too tough. There wasnât much marinade on the grilled beef, neither was there fragrance from grill charr nor âbeefâ flavour. Overall a good combination with no fuss and no frills.
I would rename this, Pulut Hitam Lite ⊠perfect for those who enjoy Pulut Hitam without the heaviness of coconut cream. It definitely was a better choice than the apple pies that have unfortunately fallen in standards over the years. The black rice were well-cooked. Kinda al-dente with nice chewy texture adding to a pleasant mouthfeel. Goes well with McDonaldâs signature pie crust!
Thereâs much hype over the 2022 National Day Special from McDonaldâs and I canât help but land my hands on one too. Sandwiched between fluffy, soft buns was a crispy prawn patty with succulent prawns - REAL prawns! I was quite surprised to find actual prawns (had expected minced prawns) in the patty instead. + a pretty thiccc sunny đł that you find in their signature muffins. The burger came with laksa sauce to bring across the laksa taste. It was a good effort, and definitely wasnt a case of creativity / fusion gone wrong. However, it wasnât as mind-blowing as the Nasi lemak burger or the Hainanese chicken burger from previous years. Worth one try!
Unassuming, hole-in-the-wall minimalistic sandwich stall within Far East Square. Iâve heard so much about their grilled sandwiches and am finally landing my hands on one! Koreaâs current menu is rather limited in terms of protein options in unpreserved forms (ie. fresh meat!) Theyâre pretty much meatless or comes served with spam/ turkey ham. For the rather steep price point, I would expect more freshness in the grills. Itâs unfortunate that duck is no longer on the menu! I dropped by for a visit on a Friday - just for the Tuna Melt which was available only on Fridays (Chicken - âRoasted Chook" is available on Thursdays at the time of writing).
The order took 10mins to be prepared and served - piping hot! I love how melty they look on the insides, and plus points to the sunny side up! I like how it wasnât fully cooked - as pictured, it was slightly runny on the insides. Itâs the perfect gooeyness to add to the gooey mess. The tuna salad (essentially tuna mixed with mayo and other seasoning), was also served with green chillies, a new flavour mix that I wasnât aware could taste so good. All goodness sandwiched between whole-wheat sourdough grilled to golden brown, itâs simply amazing! I had one of the most gratifying lunches in the CBD to-date. The impressive tuna sandwich is now making me reconsider their spam-filled options⊠how could I dismiss them off just because theyâre loaded with sodium!
Fried to a crisp, with soft insides, served alongside chocolate dip (instead of Gula Melaka, the only other flavour available) at the crewâs recommendation. I liked it! My sister, however, found the churros to be too âthicccâ to her liking. She did not enjoy the âdoughyâ insides of the churros. We both certainly liked how the churros were peppered with sugar and cinnamon powder!
Better than Mcdonaldâs for sure! Thiccc, creamy and well balanced. It wasnât as sweet as the ones Iâve had at Five Guysâ but rather similar in terms of flavour profile! I liked how the milkshake didnât taste too artificially flavoured. Itâs a huge load of calories, better be worth the calories!
My new favourite burger chain! Fatburger has a pretty extensive selection of burgers on their menu. My only gripe would be the rather inconvenient location for most of their outlets. I tried the single original beef burger, served along with sweet potato fries. There wasnât an option on the doneness of the patty - I guess itâs a standard that theyâre all prepared well-done. I like how the patty was juicy and well seasoned - sufficiently thick for the oomph. The buns were fluffy and complemented the burg well. Veggies were standard and fresh - no special sauces, just mayo!
The mudslide (apparently one of the signature items on the desserts menu). However, on the day of visit, theyâd ran out of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The only options were strawberry and salted caramel. We went for the salted caramel with fudge. Not sure if it was the flavour combination, but I thought it was rather unimpressive and nothing much to shout about. I tasted the fudge on its own, expecting it to be âwowâ given itâs indicated as a signature dessert, I suppose it would still âwowâ somewhat despite the missing vanilla ice cream. It turned out to taste rather similar to Mcdonaldâs hot fudge. Was a tad disappointed!
Nothing short of fresh, succulent and juicy! Lobster tail was executed in a simple fashion - broiled with drawn butter and therefore well seasoned. Simplicity in its best!
Had what I would think would be the must-order âstandardâ item from the Lawryâs menu. My roast beef - California cut - was served with the famed spinning bowl salad performed table side, creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding. My favourite side would be the Yorkshire pudding - definitely one of the better ones Iâve had! It was puffy, fragrant and yet âcustardyâ in the centre. Itâs the perfect carb to soak up all the excess brown sauce. Creamed spinach was decent but a lilâ too âlimpyâ for my liking. Iâve had better creamed spinach elsewhere. Mashed potatoes were creamy, smooth and flavourful - a standard you would expect from Lawry's
We were also served 2 portions of Horseradish whipped cream tin two variations - 1 with a stronger wasabi flavour, 1 with a sweeter note and less hints of wasabi. I definitely preferred the roast beef doused in their signature gravy/ brown sauce. The husband quite enjoyed the roast beef with wasabi tho.
