Noodles are sooo good. Soo chewy, it's the soft type so those who like al dente might find it too soft. Dark sauce is flavourful, soup is tasty, has a fragrant huadiao flavour. Meatball not nice, flavour texture cmi. Get the bursting meatball instead. Shallots r v crisp and fragrant, ikan crunchy, minced meat tasty. Lots of spinach. Egg creamy but wished it was hot. I like that the ikan and shallots are kept separate so they remain crisp, and u can add the amount u want. Really enjoyed this meal!
I liked the crisp coating of batter. The batter on bf's fried fish was nicer (like vietnamese netting fried spring roll). Fish itself is average, like what u get at normal western stalls. the seasonal veg was nice, but a bit too oily. Overall decent, we came bc we realised we havenât eaten it in like 10 years. But I think it was nicer last time. Itâs not not nice, but I wonât crave for this.
sweet potato, sauced veggies, macadamia cheese, goats cheese, pumpkin seeds,
LOVEDDD this. We've always had their non-pizza items, this is the first time we're trying their pizza. I never expected to like pizza at a cafe?! This was SUCH a pleasant surprise, from now on weâre probably going to order this every single time.
Objectively it is more of a healthy flatbread (the base is wholemeal and flat, no fluff no gluten development, just a lil bit of crisp) but the toppings are wonderful, everything went so well together. The macadamia cheese is slightly cheesy, texture was a bit like a beany purée, I liked this a lot. Sautéed veggies were delish - zucchini, red peppers, mushrooms, onions, sweet peas, all soft with a bite, cooked well. Sweet potatoes gave extra sweetness and creaminess. And the goat's cheese was not too stinky, very palatable. Pumpkin seeds for the crunch. SO GOOD.
Enjoyed this! I liked the brown rice, it was cooked well such that it was moist yet not mushy. The main source of savouriness was from the shrimp, which they gave quite a lot of, as well as the caipo. Here they use xiaobaicai, not mani cai. I particularly liked the leeks which were v flavourful. Also had beancurd like other stalls. Peanuts for the crunch.
Stole a bit of the add-on taukwa my bf got, it was alright but very huuuge, could be stuffed with more filling.
Overall, I liked that it's tasty and healthy, not too salty. Would come back when I'm in the north!
Quite liked the chamomile flavour, it was mellow and soothing. I've never had a chamomile ice cream before. Could see the bits of the chamomile flower in it. It paired well with the honey and subtle sweetness of blue pea. Extra points that it was a pretty colour.
Cold brew coffee w cocoa nibs was alright, the coffee taste was present but not too strong. But Iâve had better coffee ice cream (gelatiamo!!)
Texture can be improved, tho smooth it's kinda thin. But also bc of that it's quite light and not too filling. It'll do on a hot day when I want something cold, and Iâll only visit if I'm around the area, not make a special trip for.
Banmian was al dente and chewy! Itâs very nice. There's mani cai which I love, a lot of minced meat, shallots and crunchy ikan bilis, plus an onsen egg with a runny yolk that I added on for $1. The dark sauce could do with more depth but I'm alright with it, sometimes there isnât a need for so much flavour in the sauce. The important thing for me is the texture of the noodles, which is satisfying. I like that it isn't too lardy so it's not too heavy.
Soba was ok, it's not soggy and better than average (cafes, non-Japanese soba specialty restaurants) but I've had better. It lacks that nice slurpy smooth bite. The soup was a bit too strong/sweet. For ingredients there are: 1 bunch of enoki, napa cabbage, a carrot, some fatty thin slices of beef, an onsen egg. Overall ok but nothing special, I wouldn't queue for this so I don't understand why there's a queue. Portions are quite big, we were all rather full.
Prices stated are after service and gst. My espresso was pretty sour. It's strong, tho I can't say I enjoyed it very much it was too sour for a coffee.
Matcha was quite distinct and gao, tho not till it's too jelat but I only had a sip so I'm not sure if it's too much for a full glass. The coffee takes a backseat, it's barely there for me, but my friends said it is present tho not obvious.
Earl grey flavour was quite pleasant and present yet not too floral, it paired well with the honey. But again the coffee taste isn't really there. Would do better if named as solely an earl grey drink.
For a coffee place the coffee was not even discernible in their flavoured coffee drinks. I think itâs nice if you treat it as a cafe/place for beverages.
What a great find! Noodles are thin and springy, very hk-style, has a nice almost crunchy bite to it. Sauce is not a dark sauce, slightly savoury but not lardy. There is a slight alkaline taste but nothing too off putting, I think itâll be covered if u opt for chilli sauce. Char siew is lean but not dry tho, but it is not the focus, itâs not the caramelised kind.
Soup is the type of nice wanton soup I like, no strong alkaline taste. Wantons have a nice sesame oil fragrance, was p smooth and slippery, and crunchy bc thereâs water chestnut/carrots. I wishes the green chilli was more sour. Overall really liked how it was light on the palate but still v tasty and satisfying!
Shoutout for the ceramic bowls they use to serve their food, it seems minor but it adds to the enjoyment, rather than eating from a plastic bowl
Both were quite smooth and creamy, but I like the slightlyyy lighter mouthfeel plus lower sweetness in gelatiamoâs gelatos, itâs more refreshing. After this I wanted to drink water.
In terms of flavour both were pretty nutty and distinct, hazelnut melted a lot faster tho. My friend and I both preferred the flavour profile of the pistachio over the hazelnut! Not bad, I wouldnât mind trying their other flavours.
Braised slow-cooked oxtail and brisket, stuffed between tortillas held together by melted cheese, with birria broth
This fared better than the steak tacos, the braised oxtail and brisket were moist and tasty, I liked that there was cheese which added flavour. They were served piping hot. I wished there was a crisp element, it would have been even better. The birria broth was rly spicy, I didnât have much bc it was rly oily.
Flame grilled skirt steak, refried beans, red cabbage, raw onion, chipotle mayonnaise, salsa roja, cheese, cilantro, corn tortilla
Pretty decent, flavours were nice, I especially liked the refried beans that were blended into a purĂ©e. But I wasnât a fan of the steak cubes, which were a bit chewy, I prefer a nice clean tender bite rather than having that raw-ish chewiness. Overall, itâs a âcan come to redeem the burpple dealâ. While thereâs nothing bad I found it just average.
