Here’s the brand new edition of the classic Shihlin Mee Sua for Lunar New Year, topped with abalones and a choice of its broth in the original flavour or mala spicy! I must say I was surprised by the mala flavour, it had a lingering numbness to it with a good kick of heat. I’m still a bigger fan of the original though. These are available for a limited time till 28 Feb 2024!
I absolutely LOVE snail noodles (螺狮粉) and have always been stocking up on my favourite instant packets to enjoy at home whenever the craving hits!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The soup base is made of river snails and fermented bamboo shoots which give it a distinct pungent smell, making it a you ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ kind of dish heh. Was very excited to try this place out! I had the classic soup option, but they offer it dry too.
While the soup base definitely wasn’t as punchy and ‘smelly’ as what I was hoping for (the instant packets have spoiled me 😂), it was still an enjoyable one with extra spice. You also get to opt for free upsize on the noodles and top up for additional toppings like fried egg, meats, etc.

If you’ve heard of the ‘NTU Mala Xiang Guo’ aka A Hot Hideout, they’ve just opened their 3rd and largest outlet at KINEX!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a decent hearty bowl (I won’t say it’s the best) with the biggest standout being their fry on a number of selected ingredients - the eggs are scrambled, while the luncheon meat, dory fish, lotus root and potato are all fried by default! If you have to pick, our favourites were the egg, lotus root and potato slices.
Appreciate the big selection of ingredients and their self-service checkout machines are cool with a number of customisable options. Recommend requesting for less salt and oil.

Had a midweek sweet tea break at the pretty space of Rise Bakery with colleagues. It’s on the pricier end, but their fragrant and crisp brown butter waffle paired extra well with the white peach oolong ice cream. Eyeing to try the genmaicha flavour next!
Wah these matcha tarts from @dairyandcream were ON POINT, 100% worth trying especially for matcha lovers!
I loved the very clever addition of nutty black sesame layered in between the buttery crunchy crust and bittersweet matcha ganache. It’s topped off with mildly sweet black sugar cream, plus a cute little matcha paw print with a surprise middle.
I much preferred the ones without peanuts for the matcha flavours to shine better and you can request to opt out upon order.
Created in collaboration with Tanqueray, this cocktail was a very bright concoction, both visually and in taste, with quite a sweet-tasting mix of Tanqueray London Dry, Raspberry Puree, Lemon Juice and Mango.
We had the house-made Donut Balls for dessert. They are freshly fried on order and comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, crumbles, blueberries and a sweet blueberry date compote. The outmost layer of each ball had a pretty nice crunch, but it was unfortunately too dense and doughy past that.
The Veggie Puttanesca Pizza is a new seasonal main, featuring an all-vegetable assortment of toppings on a base decked with puttanesca sauce. It includes Kalamata olives, capsicum, Roma tomatoes, button mushrooms, yellow onions and arugula. Not a huge fan of the pizza base, as it was a little more dry and biscuity.
Loved these wings! Following the recommendation of our friendly waitress, we opted for our wings with an additional Bali Rub (+$1.90). The piping hot wings arrived coated in a slick sweet sauce. The crunch was on point and the meat remained juicy. If you're feeling adventurous, you can consider adding the Butter Sriracha (+$1.90) for a unique twist.
Saw almost every other table digging into these Truffle Fries even before we took our seats! While a little pricey, we thoroughly enjoyed the fries’ consistent crunch and fluffy interior.
I actually thought the Prime Rib could be more tender, but otherwise I very much enjoyed the broth. It has a good heat without being too peppery.
There are many other options to go for apart from the Prime Cut Rib, such as Sliced Pork, Liver & Kidney, Intestine & Stomach, Sliced Fish, etc. The friendly staff come around for fresh refills of the broth!

Apart from Rice ($1), diners can opt for Mee Sua to pair with the bak kut teh! The portion comes quite substantial and they offer soup refills for it too.
