It's a bit tricky to reach the place if you never been there as there is only a small signboard that show the direction of going into the restaurant. Among the Penang lang (people) around Butterworth, it's really famous as the restaurant is introduced by Ah Xian through Astro before. Ong Cheng Huat serves only few kinda of food, but still it is family oriented kinda place. Their Teochew Steamed Fish (潮州蒸魚) is not like those typical teochew style, having tomatoes on it but the sauce was good, salted in flavour but the most important thing is, fish is really fresh. The must-order-dish : Hot Soup Octopus (熱湯八爪魚). The normal octopus is too chewy until you can't bite it into two like chewing gum, but this. Can't denied that the ingredient of what they used is fresh enough. You can actually tell even before eat it. Huge and juicy, like you just caught it from the sea and cook it right after that. Soy Bean Paste with Clams (豆醬炒蛤蜊) is good either. Although it is simple dish like home cook but I can confirm, it can amaze you with the goodness. Currently open from Tuesday until Sunday, from 11am until 5.30pm, closed on Monday.
Fun fact 101: When Penang people talk about Hokkien Mee, they might not talking the same thing as what you think. In Penang, Hokkien Mee means prawn mee. Penang is well-known with scrumptious local foods, but this is the best prawn Mee I had so far. The restaurant is located in Georgetown, same row with Kwong Wah Yit Poh. Was having too much of local foods, so ordered the Hokkien Mee without noodles. What makes them special is they will add on Siu Yok (燒肉) into the soup. However, due to they have to handle large number of customers, they charged RM0.50 per pcs of Siu Yok. Other than that, they also serve with pork belly, pork skin and prawns. The soup is very well cooked and strong in flavour, especially after you mix with the chili. There always have long queue, even it is late night. Make sure you be ready for a long wait.
A not so hipster cafe that located in PFCC, Puchong. Not really sure how is the interior design before this but its bright at the part near to the entrance and the other part of the cafe that near to the toilet is very dark. If you prefer to take nice photo, might as well to sit places that near to the entrance. To me, their eggettes is famous since there is very few cafes that are having eggettes on their menu. Their flossy berries Hong Kong eggettes (RM19) serve with chicken floss, cornflakes, roasted white chocolate lavender artisan ice cream and berries compote. Was thought the combination might be weird when the eggettes is serve with chicken floss and cornflakes but surprisingly both are very match with ice cream and berries compote. Love the idea of combining sweet and savory flavour. In terms of texture, probably is because of taking too long time to take photo, it seems to be soft instead of crispy. But I guess everything tastes good with ice cream.
Went to the one at Mont Kiara on a Friday night. Ends up more than half of the seats were reserved but since TGIF, it's quite lucky that we still manage to get ourselves a seat. Salmon Don (RM25) serves with fresh salmons. Although the place have a lot of good reputation on the food but the service is kinda slow. And also, probably due to they have to serve large group of people, the food seems like so so.
RGB had been resume their business for awhile from RAW coffee to the hidden gem that nestled in Ampang Park area. They used to serve only vegan food, until now they started to serve non-vegan to satisfy those meat lover. Their Basil & Olive fried rice (RM15) with brown rice, tofu, basil and marinated olives should be the best choice for those health-concern people. Add extra RM2 for a Kampung sunny side up egg or additional RM4 for their homemade RGB tempeh, if you prefer to have some shredded roast chicken in your fried rice, just add RM6 to get your craving fix. Love their cappuccino (RM10). It's quite packed during lunch hour but it would be a good place to get your things done alone after 2pm.
It's consider one of the best restaurant near One Utama Shopping Centre, serving various Cantonese cuisine with huge portion with reasonable price, which literally most of the Chinese dishes like Cantonese Kuew Teow (RM16.90), just like the traditional Cantonese kuew teow, they serve more than enough of gravy, prawns, pork slices, fish cakes and some green. Their roast pork curry laksa (RM18.90) is one of their best seller, served with roast pork, pork meatballs, taufu puff, long bean, brinjal and beansprouts. Their pricing is quite reasonable to me as their ingredients are generous. They also offer discounts during 11am to 1pm.
Kiki Taiwan Cuisine is another branch by Fong Lye, located at 4th floor of Suria KLCC, serving delicious Taiwan cuisine. Comparing to the restaurant in there, Kiki seems like always full of crowd even on weekday night. This is because of reasonable priced food with good serving speed. Their set meals are worthy, like the one I ordered, Fish with sweet and sour sauce set meal (RM28.40) served with a bowl of rice, some side dishes which include cucumbers, fried fish ball and tofu, soup and of course the sweet and sour fish. It quite sweet to me tho, but I think the soup is there to reduce the greasiness. It always full house especially during lunch hour.
Kakatoo Cafe serve plenty of local dishes. Their sweet & sour chicken rice (RM14.90) with crispy texture of chicken, sauce is just good, an eggs over easy, some keropok, and a little bit of salad. In terms of texture, it's not like the usual sweet and sour chicken that you can eat out there. Not really like the texture but in terms of portion, surely they feel the customers well.
Kakatoo cafe is the nyonya and western fusion that nestled in Ativo Plaza, Bandar Sri Damansara. The tasting Platter (RM40.90), a good choice for an appetizer that can be share with a big group, served with some local side dishes such as otak otak (spicy), curry samosa, satay chicken, chicken lobak, fried tofu and kerabu mango. Otak otak is a little bit too spicy for me, but in terms of texture, it's more like fried tofu to me. Curry samosa is my favorite. Crispy on the outside, plus the sweetness of the curry actually makes me want to eat more. Their satay chicken is not oily like you can eat at the stall out there, but I'm still prefer those grill with charcoal. Chicken lobak is exactly taste like what we have during Chinese wedding. Although it always full house during lunch hour or dinner time, the restaurant have provide plenty of seats.
The restaurant has been clarified as the cheapest Japanese food in Setapak with various of choices, which including dons, and also some Chinese cuisine like Marmite chicken rice (RM8.90), serve with a hot soup. Was not crowded during my visit even it is weekend. It's lying at the backstreet of PV128 Setapak, which is just behind of Six Inch. Somehow I found out it is too sweet to me but in terms of portion, surely it is very generous as it tends to attract more student around that area. Ocha (RM1) with free refill. They also doing promotion with Thursday night after 7pm, if you are dining with ladies there will be a free French fries for free.
Well-known as the best nasi Lemak around Ampang Park. As usual, the place is full of crowd during office break as they serve really good nasi lemak with quite of portion compare to the normal one. Nasi Lemak Ayam (RM11.50) served with chicken rendang, sambal, half of hard boiled egg, cucumber and some nuts and anchovies. To be, I think the best part of the whole dish would be the sambal with onions, sweet in flavour and level of spiciness is acceptable. The special of having lunch there is after you order at the counter, without any label or number of table you have to tell to the counter, the kitchen crew will automatically serve the food to you within 10 minute even though the shop is full of crowd. Their Kopi Peng (RM4) is quite good either. Make sure you order kopi peng gao for stronger flavour of traditional kopi. However, make sure you pay them a visit fast before the shopping mall demolish to make way for an MRT station soon.
It seems like to be a favourite breakfast or brunch spot for people. An old kopitiam but moved to new row, not too far from where it used to be. Old school interior design of kopitiam that surely make you nostalgic of those good old days when your parents brought you to kopitiam for breakfast. Can't denied that it always full house here during office break or lunch hour. The infamous hainanese chicken chop (RM12.50) that serve with two pieces of huge chicken chop, potatoes, orange and green peas with sauces. Guess it's one of the top seller here as you can see almost everyone is ordering this. Compare to other restaurant, their chicken chop is quite thick, high level of satisfaction on every bite, but since I'm not a fans of that sauce, I'm always order other kind of food there. If you wonder where to park your car, there is an open parking just behind the restaurant whereby you will pass by it if follow the main road. Or you can take monorail to Medan Tuanku station and have a 10-15 minute walk.
