The salmon and tuna itself was quite good, and a pretty generous portion was given. I like green onion, so I was also quite glad that they sprinkled it generously all over the dish. However, the warm rice was a bit of an odd pairing with the cool sashimi, which got warmed up considerably over time and the entire dish took on a lukewarm temperature. Not what one would usually be used to wrt chirashi bowls, but taste-wise is not too bad.

Beef slices and a runny sunny-side-up atop a bowl of warm rice. The beef slices were really tender, and had an added sweetness from being cooked with onions. The quantity of beef given was quite substantial as well, and this would surely be enough to fill you up. However, personally, there isn't anything in particular to rave about, and they have nicer and more interesting offerings on their menu that you should try!

Sin Lee's salted egg chicken burger came with a generous slab of chicken thigh meat with salted egg sauce drizzled all over. Sauce was not spectacular; after a while, it got a bit gelat, and would have preferred it if it had a stronger flavour (sweeter/saltier/creamier). Nevertheless, the quantity of chicken thigh meat was a really pleasant surprise - I didn't expect to get such a big piece at this price range. The chicken was tender, juicy, with the skin fried to a nice crisp. Also, (surprisingly) the side of tangy slaw helped to cut through the heavy dish and provided some much needed acidity.

Professor Brawn Cafe is one of the eight local social enterprises participating in #DineForGood as part of #FestivalForGood which is organised by the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE) to increase awareness and patronage of F&B social enterprises in Singapore. They specialise in serving classic western fare at, as I was happy to find out, really affordable prices!

Their crunchy calamari ($7.90) was one of the highlights of the dishes we tasted. At only $7.90, you get a generous portion of crisp, crunchy calamari fried to golden perfection. It's not gelat at all, although it is served with a side of salsa which provides a bit of acidity to balance things out. Super addictive, this will disappear from your table in no time!

Professor Brawn Cafe aims to provide employment opportunities to people with autism, and in doing so, has strived to create an inclusive working environment that aims to accommodate people of different abilities, ages and socio-economic backgrounds. In fact, the Professor Brawn mascot was conceptualised and designed by a child with autism, and served as the catalyst for the owner, Mr Roland Tay, to start this social enterprise. A comprehensive job assessment program has been put in place to ensure that their beneficiaries are well-equipped and comfortable in their working environment.

You can be #partofthegood by dining at participating social enterprises such as Professor Brawn Cafe! Enjoy a free ice cream with any of the mains throughout the month of August.

Many thanks to Mr Roland Tay for taking the time to host us, as well as Burpple for the invite!

New Rasa Singapura not only provides comforting, authentic local delights with a twist, but also aims to provide employment opportunities for their beneficiaries to help integrate them back into society. Hence, throughout the month of August, they are one of eight local social enterprise eateries participating in the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE)'s #DineForGood as part of the inaugural #FeativalForGood.

Their black pepper char kway teow has the characteristic sweetness of the dark soy sauce, while having a fiery kick via the addition of a healthy dose of black pepper. Despite not using any lard, the noodles were still sufficiently wet and fragrant and not dry at all. Also, the prawns used were really fresh and plump and were a highlight of the dish.

Josephine, owner of New Rasa Singapura, shared with us her motivation to start this social enterprise. Recognising that there are many members of society who might not have been as fortunate as most of us, she started this social enterprise in order to give back to society. New Rasa Singapura works with various government agencies such as MINDS and IMH to provide their beneficiaries with meaningful job opportunities by simplifying their food preparation processes. As such, your patronage would go a long way in ensuring that there's a sustainable business model for them to continue to do so!

Thus, this August, be #partofthegood by dining at New Rasa Singapura! Spend $50 in one receipt and receive a voucher of $10 to be used during the next visit.

Many thanks to Josephine for hosting, and Burpple for the invite!

Singapore's inaugural #FestivalForGood on 20 August organised by the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprises (raiSE) aims to raise awareness of F&B social enterprises. For this special occasion, three Timbre+ chefs and Edible Garden City will create three exclusive dishes for the festival using locally cultivated produce!

One of them includes Chef Enoch of Garçons who has created his unique take on salad nicoise, featuring a slab of black miso coated tuna and Japanese corn purée. I really liked the harmonious medley of flavours from the different components of this dish - the saltiness from the black miso goes incredibly well with the sweet corn purée, while the ginger-shoyu vinaigrette adds a nice touch of acidity to the whole dish. Limited number of plates will be available, so pre-order them at https://ediblegardencityxtimbre.peatix.com and get $2 off!

Not only will you enjoy good food if you take a trip down to Garçons, you will also be doing your part for society. This is because Garçons also provides employment opportunities to ex-offenders and youths-at-risk and possibly even enabling successful beneficiaries to start their own businesses. Thus, your patronage goes a long way in sustaining such opportunities for the beneficiaries!

Additionally, as part of the festival, Garçons is participating in #DineForGood where you can be #partofthegood by dining at Garçons and other local participating eateries. Enjoy 10% off all mains when you dine at Garçons at The Pinnacle throughout the month of August!

Thank you to raiSE for hosting us, and Burpple for the invite!

Delicious, creamy, sweet and slightly bitter durian from the famous stall at Ghim Moh market. So many durians on sale that it's amazing we just resisted temptation and only ordered two. Good place to get durian and other fruits! Best to call in advance to reserve as it's very crowded.

Very normal Thai milk tea - nothing in particular to rave about. I did like that it wasn't too sweet and the tea itself was quite fragrant. Portion was quite big, but then again it isn't exactly the cheapest. I guess it's a nice drink to have while queueing for Hiap Joo banana bread which is just right beside it.
