cakes were not bad. the goma aroma was certainly present and the matcha tiramisu was not too heavy so it was kinda easy to just go for bite after bite. the generous amount of matcha powder on the surface will definitely be a treat for any matcha lover. the soft serve on the other hand tasted watered down compared to the ones we had in the past.

a very refreshing vibe to the entire place but i do miss the cosy and low profile seating area. and another issue is the long queues that we got to contend with now. 😂

spammed my egg mayo sushi. loved the slight hint of pepper in it. another spammable one is the aburi. fatty salmon with a good char. corn cream croquette is now a must-order too. only bad decision made here was the tamagoyaki. just bland, bad and overpriced. if not for the tamagoyaki, the bill is actually alright. of course, i did not chiong the atas colour plates la.

forgot what the girls ordered. mine was some puchong tea with 奶盖 zero sugar. there was no 25% or 30% option so i chose 0%. the tea itself was not bad just a tad bitter. the 奶盖 was not to my taste. prefer the more buttery type like gongcha's. pearls were ok. texture was firm enough for me to chew happily.

i usually go riverwalk, followed by east coast and then riverside. it was quite a long wait of 40min.

super hungry by then. but thankfully the orders came fast and furious. we ordered a 800g black pepper mud crab, chill crab sauce with mantous, a mentaiko cheese king prawn, scallops in yam rings, mee goreng and mango desserts. im quite a boring person at jumbo. 70% of my orders never change.

the black pepper crab was not very fleshy but its fresh. meat was firm. had to go with this smaller crab instead of the jumbo crab i preferred but it would be a 1kg crab and that would spell GG for the both of us. i liked the black pepper flavour here because its very aromatic and the pepper is just enough for that slight kick. for the chilli crab sauce and mantous, a standard favourite of sinkies to dip the buns in and soak up all the goodness.

the mentaiko cheese king prawn was a wonderful grilled specimen. not too cheesy or salty. a nice balance of condiments onto the substantial prawn meat for us to bite into. scallops in yam rings is a must-order everytime i come to jumbo. the crispy shell on the outside of the fragrant yam and the soft scallops inside make up such an awesome combination. the yam does not overpower the taste of the scallops. this is one yam dish i would never ever shun from.

the mee goreng is my favourite carbs dish here. generous ingredients, not too spicy, just slightly sweet and the texture of the noodles has just the right amount of bite. mango pudding was good but the mango pomelo sago leaves alot to be desired.

a nice surprise for me was the high level of service by a manager called mr michael jiang. super attentive and courteous. he really elevated our dining experience. a reason to go dempsey i guess.

what caught our eyes were the interesting soft serves not in a cone but a pastry.

this brand, supposedly from prague serves their ice cream or yogurt in a twirly, chimney shaped pastry. we got the chimney king which has brownies, salted caramel and some nuts. all these toppings compliment each other well. flavour, depth and crunch.

a fan of croissants, i like the similar soft texture of the pastry and the way it soaks up all the melted ice cream. you can call this the atas version of our local $1 bread kiap ice cream. just shiok lor.

there are still quite alot of flavours to try but other than the stomach space needed, resources in the wallet have to be replenished first too.

ordered half a spring chicken set meal and two bbq wings to share. the prices have come a long way from the $1 fries, $4.50 chicken chop and $6 whole spring chicken days. and for us now, nostalgia usually comes with a hefty price tag. and i'm a sucker for nostalgia.

the spring chicken skin was crispy and was not soaked with oil. it's nice but the nostalgia bit was somehow lacking though i can't put a finger to it. same goes to the wings.

only the fresh chilli sauce brought me back to the kopitiam stall at bangkit road with the bbq wings on multiple skewers over burning charcoal. but it's definitely one of the more accessible local western food places which serves decent stuff right now. so thank you 可爱鸡 for keeping this nostalgic flavour alive somehow.

we opted for the buffet menu and kind of ordered the standard fare we always got.

food here was legit nice. sides were good. soup was not overly salty. pancake was not too floury. bbq meat was yummy. especially the pork belly and beef.

the meat was thinly sliced and you could just devour piece after piece without realising the sins you have committed. the pork belly had a very crisp and the beef's flavour was just tempting and addictive.

i did not get to taste the fried chicken today because having been here a couple of times, we all know that the portion is crazy huge. so we decided to just dabao the fried chicken as always and just spam the bbq while having the non-dabao-able soup etc. service was impeccable until we were told that there was a change in their SOP and we could not dabao the fried chicken.

we only found out when we were about to settle the bill. if we were notified earlier, we would not have ordered other ala carte dishes to add on. so after abit of talking, we decided to give in and let them throw away the fried chicken. at least the sin of food wastage is not on me. kinda put off by the sudden change in rules and the flexibility.

that being said, the food is not bad and it would have continued to be a regular kbbq joint for us if not for this minor dispute. in all honesty, the food is definitely worth a go. just skip the additional ala carte orders or you will end up wasting food.

only managed to order these two dishes and the stalls were out of food by then. well, at least we managed to catch the fireworks which was unexpected.

first up is the peppercorn steak from the feather blade. texture is nice but there's no nice beefy flavour. and peppercorn is kinda weird for me to have it on beef. would most probably try a classic version given the chance in the future.

and the second and last dish is the braised duck rice we all know and love. we did not feel we overpaid for this though. the bowl was packed with ingredients and that includes quite alot of duck meat. typical duck rice. no complaints from us.

The appetisers were shiok liao. Suckling pig, roast duck and unagi. Truffle scallops were a nice surprise. The truffle scent was unmistakenly present yet it was not overpowering. Loved this dish. Crispy roast chicken was a crowd favourite; especially the long fried snack bits.

Actually, the chopsticks are just for show. Simple bowl of laksa. Not as lemak as I would have wanted but convenience is key here. Overall, it's good enough and filling for me with the shrimps, egg, tau pok and fish cakes.

Prices were definitely pricier than Sushi Express but quality was way better. We were kinda hungry so we just picked off random plates once we were seated down.

Every piece of sushi was fresh and yummy. No skimping on the ingredients. Or perhaps the heavy flavours suited me very well. My personal favourites were the Aburi Salmon and Egg Mayo.

You will see some familiar names such as @kechasg, @beefbro_sg, @monkicafeholland and @burgersandheads. First time trying out beef cubes from Beef Bro. Tried the Truffle and Mentaiko variations. Perhaps I should have just went with the Original. Got The Impossible and Da Cheese Master from Three Buns. It's just all spice for The Impossible. Not my thing but the cheeseburger is shiok. Juicy patty, savoury cheese and the buttery bun makes for an irresistible combination.

New names to me include @the6ixsrosti and @churrosrepublic which are my top favourites. Ordered the Classic and Cheesy. Definitely going back for the Classic. With just the sour cream alone, I'm hooked. Churros, even though were out for a long time still remained crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Only gripe was that the sugar was abit overkill for us.
