got two seafood rolls. one in maine style and one with chilli crab sauce. the seafood roll is basically a mix of both lobster and crab meat. crab on the bottom and lobster on top.

the bun is actually nice. soft and crispy with a nice buttery scent. the seafood meat was alright. abit rubbery. or perhaps expectations were too high. there was no "wow". chilli crab sauce version was slightly better for me.

i got myself the chilli crab cutlet which was actually quite legit. and theres a fried bun to complete the look. cutlet itself was juicy and the skin was not over fried which is good. nothing to complain about except the price tag which is kinda pricey if i did not use the offer.

ate a few times at fat bird but this is my first time at this serangoon outlet. this outlet incorporates both concepts at their bugis outlets.

main dish is definitely the chicken hotpot with varying levels of spices catered to the diners' preference. the staff did a 微辣(mild spicy) for us. and soon after, the table was full of other side dishes.

the chicken meat in the hotpot itself was tender so i guess they use mostly thigh meat. the meat has soaked up the essence of the broth so its already mala flavoured in a sense. like the usual hotpot, you can add on items such as the classic luncheon meat and meat slices to cook. and the soup was very drinkable. perhaps due to the noob spicy level.

and now the sides. 辣子鸡. sorry personal bias. i think its hard to one up clementi's version. the 辣子鸡 here is served in nibble sized portions much like other eateries. lala here is good enough for an anti-most-shellfish person like myself.

the fried glazed yam sticks are super love. like a healthier cousin of the french fries, these are sweeter and more substantial with a nice crisp on the outside. skewers wise, i favour the potato and brocoli. the spice powder is kinda fragrant. and the alcohol selection is very decent too. so no worries alcoholics.

we got ourselves the standard matcha, the mystery oolong, matcha chocolate drink and my standard yuzu drink. even though the yuzu drink is of lower value, my love for yuzu takes precedence over value.

matcha, as usual did not disappoint. oolong, however was quite bland to us. the biscuit here was rock hard for some reason. yuzu drink at this outlet was abit diluted compared to the one i had at cathay some time back.

the matcha chocolate had the two flavours apart so you can choose to mix it up if you prefer. the mixed version definitely suits me more. somehow, i do feel cathay's offerings are better in terms of quality. or it could just be me.

so walked to maxwell for a budget hawker dinner. ye lai xiang was not open. and im not a tian tian chicken rice person. so this china street fritters stall selling ngoh hiang with a decent queue felt quite right. got queue means something is being done right. right?

we ordered the set d to share. bee hoon served with all 7 different items they have on the menu. sausage, meat roll, liver roll, egg slice, century egg, fish ball and tau kua.

bee hoon was ok. not too oily. the chilli sauce was not bad. nice to dip anything in. the other sweet watery sauce did not appeal to me. the texture of sausage was good for me. soft and the middle part felt kinda pastey. fish balls and tau kwa were fried nicely. there was a decent crisp on the surface of both of the items.

first piece of liver roll was acceptable. second one was bad. it stank to high heaven. left a lingering decomposing taste in my mouth. and xy tasted the same too. and shes the innards lover. meat roll on the other hand was crispy with substantial fillings. century egg was just century egg. the egg slice hearsay is a mix of egg and lard. not exactly the healthiest thing on earth. but its good. the chewy texture and the fragrance is definitely worth the calories.

they did the ordering and i just ate. the yam and chicken was good. even for a non yam person like myself. the spring onions which i normally detest actually elevated the dish for me.

the seafood fried rice was fragrant and it was the crowd favourite compared to its pork rice counterpart. the 水煮鱼 was huge. and it came with a hefty price tag too. but i got to admit its good. the fish slices dont disintegrate easily and the veg sides they added in were quite good too.

the mapo tofu looked scary but its not as spicy as it looked. standard good to 下饭 with. the sweet and sour pork on ice, as a novelty dish was quite cool. having it in a different temperature was a new experience but thats that. really just for the novelty.

its an accessible place with nice food but its still pricey to me. i do have cheaper and yummier options at clementi and chinatown but this is nearer to me and theres aircon.

the rice on its own is quite bland to me. but mix the rice, herbs, sauce everything together, add a piece of the tender chicken and you will get a wonderful combo. she was full of praise for this dish during the entire duration. wanted to order the sambal prawns but they were not available.

so here we are. back after 2 years. for a super quiet mall like suntec, we actually had to wait 20min. i got the spicy version with multi grain rice. she got the non spicy version with white rice.

the white rice was kinda clumpy. my multi grain rice was good though. different texture with every mouthful of rice and a bonus added effect of feeling healthy.

the spicy version was not spicy at all. i detect zero hints of spiciness. had to spam some chilli powder myself. the 料s were nice. quantity and quality. the mushroom was fat and juicy. no fish on this day but we had sotong which was not rubbery at all and very easy to chew. even a non sotong eater like her enjoyed it.

my personal favourite would be the prawn. it was fried in such a way that when you bite till the tail of the prawn, theres a fried prawn fragrance which reminded me of the prawn fritters my late mum used to fry for our birthday parties. a random touch of home to me.

the broth was very yummy. i should have added more of the black chilli for more kick and shiok-ness. i did perspire. but not alot. added a bergedil. this stall's bergedil is not really mashed up. the potatoes inside are still kinda chunky. im alright with both variations. so no issue.

noodles wise, abit overcooked for me but still a good dish overall. will definitely be back to try a more spiced up version soon.

surprisingly, my favourite dish was the dessert. i think the ice cream did it for me. the prawns are next in line. firm, crunchy meat. dipped in soya sauce, topped with chilli padi.
