The hor fun here was fried to a crisp, and resembled crispy pork skin, or maybe keropok/prawn crackers. The hor fun sauce was silky and thick, and the prawns were so incredibly fresh that they were sweet on their own! Would definitely recommend this dish, and I will be back to try more of their offerings.
Smoky pork cheek grilled to perfection, with a slight char and caramelised exterior - this was a great dish. The pork was soft and flavourful, and there was a good balance of pork fat and lean meat. We got this with Burpple’s 1-for-1! The decor here is nice and old-school as well, located within Kam Leng hotel at Farrer Park.
Decided to get half a chicken (white) from Ah Tai and half a chicken (roasted) from Tian Tian, and the stand-out dish was definitely Ah Tai’s white chicken. It was extremely soft and tender (even the chicken breast) and the chicken pieces were so thick and juicy! Tian Tian’s chicken pales in comparison, although I have to say that Tian Tian’s rice is much more fragrant and flavourful
I’ll admit I had my doubts about duck ramen before trying the ramen here, but trust me when I say that I was blown away. The broth was thick and flavourful, without any overwhelming gamey flavour some may be worried about. The two pieces of duck chashu were exquisitely tender and left us pining for more, and the duck meatballs were so fresh-tasting and soft. I’ll definitely be back! This place is a hole-in-the-wall, as it is located in a small unit upstairs along the busy Holland Village area, but the ambience is great, giving off a really minimalist Japanese feel.
Had the salmon bowl and the mala pork bowl, and we enjoyed both. We redeemed Burpple’s 1 for 1 here and it made it even more value for money! The salmon was fresh and was drizzled with generous helpings of ikura, and the mala pork was pretty tasty too, even though we found that the mala was a lot more numbing (‘ma’) than spicy (‘la’). Will be back to try their other offerings!
The meats here are so good - the char siew has a rich, caramelised flavour and is thick yet soft, and the roast pork had a delightfully crisp skin. The quality of the roast meats here justifies the long queues at lunch time on both weekdays and weekends.
First time at Sweet Cheeks, a newly opened gelato shop a really short walk from Potong Pasir MRT and right next to the famous River South (Hoe Nam) prawn noodles supper spot. I really loved their cinnamon brown bread flavour! The flavour was just right and I loved the bread bits within. Texture of the ice cream was good too, thick and creamy. Will be back!
Saw a steady stream of patrons buying ban mian from this stall at Serangoon Gardens Market, and decided to give it a try. It really didn’t disappoint! I really loved the chilli (they gave a small portion but it packed sufficient punch for a chilli lover like me), and the noodles were handmade and wonderfully bouncy. The soup with egg white mixed into it was a wonderful touch too!
We had the breakfast burger which was really good - oozy, creamy scrambled eggs, grilled buns, bacon - all essential breakfast ingredients that went together really well. I had the avo on toast which was tasty but ordinary. The toast and avocado slices tasted a little plain and could use some more flavour. Smashed avo could be a better alternative!
I’ve been wanting to try this forever! I always go for the most recommended Sor-Hei bun (which is really good, by the way) but I finally got to try this cruffin. The croissant exterior was really crispy and buttery, and the matcha cream was rich-tasting and smooth.
Can’t count the number of times I’ve come here just for their coffee - I’ve been coming here since they were Dancing Goat specialty coffee, and even now after they’ve rebranded (the coffee stayed exactly the same, still crazy good). We always get the iced white and it’s really strong and packs a punch with a ton of flavour and that caffeine kick. Truly a hole in the wall, but definitely not one to be trifled with.
Classic vanilla and caramel custard - this was simple and great. The custard was so smooth and light, it felt as if it was floating through my mouth with every bite. This was the dessert we ordered as part of the lunch set, and when we were eyeing the neighbouring tables, the raspberry vanilla choux puff looked stunning too. We will be back!
