With cheese made from New Zealand cream and Japanese cheese, the cheese foam is definitely smooth and savory. However don’t let it sit for too long or it will harden!
.
.
There’s no choice for sugar level and the tea can be a bit too mild on the sweet side.
Home chefs @markyeong , @russculler and @crumbleandall got inspiration from their roots to create each dish.
.
🍴
First up was a fish roll vermicelli soup. Home made fish roll really makes the difference. Plus the heartwarming vermicelli soup ☺️
.
🍴
Ngor hiang. Chunky hand cut meat with water chestnut and super crisp beancurd skin 🤤
.
🍴
Slow cooked peranakan beef rendang rice on blue pea flower rice. The rempah definitely has a kick and the wet aged beef was super tender!
.
🍴
Braised Hakka Pork Belly. Super tender and flavourful pork with beancurd skin and black fungus. 🤤
.
🍴
Dessert was hainanese bua. Chewy glutinous rice ball with Gula Melaka shredded coconut plus crunchy sesame peanut brittle. Quite the epitome of modern traditional food!
. 🍴
Fun fact: @crumbleandall grandparents used to own a hainanese tang yuan store at middle road in the 1950/1960s!
.
🍴
This event will ends on Sunday! So catch them while you can!!

Gold spice chicken. Salted egg, basil, curry leave, chilli.
.
.
Salted egg aroma definitely there. Basil nonexistent. Curry weak. Chilli yes. Batter was a bit too thick and gets hard if you’re thinking of taking away. The crispy experience will most probably be better in store. Salted egg taste is weak. Tasted like spicy chicken + ____ salted egg powder. Brand name censored.
.
.
Definitely a must try to satisfy the curiosity but whether I’ll eat again.. I think I’m better off getting salted egg pork ribs at Hong Kong street zi char
.
Occupational hazard is when you can recognize the brand of the seasoning/condiment.

When my bro and SIL was back in town, they craved Nasi lemak and I thought of trying Nasi lemak kukus that I’ve always wanted to. However they are no longer along selegie, but in Toa Payoh industrial estate 1002 now. I googled again and again before going down to make sure it was right. 🍴
.
The Nasi lemak was quite the bomb! $4 for a set with a choice of salted egg wings/ normal. Though it was a pity that the salted egg was oos when I was there. Normal wings batter was pretty legit though. Rice is actually steamed rather than cooked to retain the coconut milk aroma! There’s coconut milk aroma all the way to the last bite. The sambal was amazing that we had to get extras.
🍴
.
And while you are at it, definitely order the fried chicken skin at a dollar. You will not regret it. 🍴
.
Mutton rendang($4) was pretty tender though not my favorite dish. Would have still preferred beef.

Especially when it’s just gelato. .
.
Coffee. Pistachio. Chocolate. Tiramisu. .
.
Pistachio gelato can be pretty hit or miss but it’s definitely spot on here. All the flavours are really good in general!
.
.
Plus... psst have you heard of burpple beyond feature now?!? I got these 2 cups 1 for 1 at $6.50! (Pistachio is a premium flavour so + $0.50)
.
.
Burpple beyond is completely free if you want to enjoy 1 for 1 during off peak hours. However it’s only $9.90/mnth if you want 1 for 1 every hour of the day! 🎉🎉🎉 don’t say bonito

So I’m not very up to date w news and didn’t know that the original songkee had moved. I walked into finest songkee, wondering how come there’s no crowd and it feels so different.
.
.
The mee Kia was pretty good, springy and had enough flavour. But the fishball tasted more like starch while the er duo (what’s the real name for this?) was more like a slimy mess. 😨
.
.
I’m still thinking about these super fluffy soft soufflé pancakes! At $3 for two pcs, be ready to wait for 20mins upon order and up to an hour during busy hours. 😣 chocolate and caramel sauce was pretty generic but it’s the texture of the pancakes that makes the diff!
.
.
While waiting, you can always order the cheesecake first at $3.80 per slice. These are non baked and totally melts in your mouth. 🤤
.
.
This cute hawker store is located at Mei ling market. A bit out of the way but this place has quite a few other good eating places too.

Is spicy food your thing? Love the korean Samyang fiery noodles? .
.
Inspired by the popular korean noodles, @montanasingapore offers different levels to match your courage.
.
.
Level 1- you can barely taste the spice. An interesting asian fusion carbonara.
.
.
Level 3- The spice adds a nice fragrance to the pasta. It keeps you wanting more.
.
.
Level 5- way too spicy to actually enjoy the pasta. Definitely not for the faint hearted 😵😵
.
.
Pro tip: wash it all down w their cold brew white, or a milkshake if you have extra calories to spare.
.
.
Thank you @vanessa_kou and @gastrology_ for extending the invite and @montanasingapore for hosting!

You’re not allowed to mix flavours here, but then again it’s quite easy to pop them in your mouth. Other than the fact that it’s crazy hard to scoop the coconut shavings onto your pancake w two sticks and the Gula Melaka not being fragrant enough. It was pretty decent!
By Hyde and Co, this crispy chicken rendang is definitely intriguing. But not quite what I was hoping for. It wasn’t really crispy and my first drumstick was raw inside.😰 I guess if you consider the belinjao, it’s quite crispy. But other than that, you get ketupat below and the lemongrass in this rendang sauce is too strong.
I’ve learnt hard to avoid tourist attractions in China on weekends and public holidays.
.
.
Although it was a crazy crowd to squeeze into yu yuan, it was the best choice to find refuge in this pavilion tea house right smack in the middle of yu yuan.
.
.
At a price of around $20sgd per teas (compulsory to order one per person), you will not find anyone trying to crowd you out. Ambience is great and view is great. Snacks like tea egg, tow gwa and preserved olives are on the house.
.
.
The range of teas is also extensive. Definitely go for the long jings, mild, slightly bitter sweet and easy to drink. 😋
Northern Thai curry w egg noodles and topped with crispy egg noodles. Northern curry is coconuty and smooth, spices are strong but not overpowering. It comes with a whole drumstick that is perfectly cooked. For every ala carte item, top up $1.50 for a drink (if not it’s $2.50 for one)!
