New spot for Keralan fare in Bangsar! Like its competitors in the area, Gajaa has a buffet spread at lunch (from RM24.90 pp), but we found the a la carte options to be more attractive.
This one’s the mixed vegetable kurma, made with cashews, coconut milk and a myriad of spices. I like the creaminess of that gravy ladled over rice, and the generous portion of green beans!
Can’t help but be reminded of Aqua S when at Urban Artisan, but hey, if it’s yummy, I’m all for it. The signature Sea Salt’s blue tinge bothers me a little, but the good flavour is enough to make me forget all about any possible use of artificial colouring. The subtly salty note blends really well with that mildly sweet milk chocolate swirl!
This glistening dish is why Vatos is so easy to love. Melding Mexican mole with a touch of Korean gochujang, these enchiladas pack serious heat that is nicely balanced out by the creamy shredded chicken and four cheese combo within.
Crunchy romaine and spinach tossed with pico de gallo, pickled onions, cilantro caesar dressing and topped with shredded tortilla chips and chipotle prawns. I enjoyed the slightly bitter bite that comes with those greens, and the delicious prawns that give the dish an extra pop of flavour.
Can imagine how this would make a nice guilt-free (ok maybe just less guilt-inducing) side to share when pigging out at Vatos.
Tender short ribs enveloped in gooey cheese sandwiched between bread, then deep fried wrapped in more - yep, cheese! This is a sinfully rich dish from the new menu, but it’s one you should order and probably, share with a friend.
Top vote for a sandwich at Simplicite goes to this baguette with ribeye steak! Sliced thin, the meat is tender and melds perfectly with the sugary sweet pickles, tomatoes and slivers of cheese. The baguette is warm and crisp, while soft enough to easily sink your teeth into.
P.s. This is where the good stuff from Ebony & Ivory comes from.
Loved the sourdough at Simplicite, which had a deeper tangy flavour compared to many others I’ve had. The chicken filling is pretty good, not overly seasoned and would do well for a light lunch. If you like your sammies with umami, however, this may fall a tad short.
Would recommend getting the sourdough with the more flavourful ribeye instead!
So simple but so good! If you work or live in Cheras but haven’t been here, swing by for honest-to-goodness sandwiches. The egg mayo has a homey feel, elevated by spots of incredibly fresh, zingy tomatoes.
You can also get the egg in their soft baguette or tangy sourdough.
Saltish Parma ham, rich fontina, sweet and earthy artichokes, tart tomatoes and bitter rocket leaves — all packed between pesto-brushed ciabatta. For a very tasty sandwich with well balanced flavours, bet on this!
The house special tofu is a chunky, deep-fried square topped with crunchy cai po and minced meat. Dig in to find perfectly soft and smooth plain white insides, a great contrast to its flavourful exterior.
Another winner at the office-friendly Grizzly! The eggs are enviably green and extremely redolent of the herbs it’s thoroughly mixed in. I love how the omelette takes a nice squarish shape that fits perfectly between the bread slices for a fuller bite.
Took them some time to toast this up, but the wait proved worthwhile. The combination of taut chicken, creamy avo and punchy wasabi mayo is unexpectedly good! Order if you like your lunch with a kick — that mayo goes straight to your nose.
