A very much underrated and unknown soy sauce chicken and a quick check on google reveals almost nothing. This came as a surprise as they served a pretty decent plate of soy sauce chicken. Old school in style which reminds me of the one I had when I was a kid at a stall along Sungei Road. The gravy sauce is sweet savoury and the noodles has a springy light texture. The chicken thigh was tender and soaked up all the goodness of the gravy.

From its humble beginnings selling outside Novena church to bring awarded the 2018 Michelin Bib Gourmand, Rolina Traditional Hainan Curry Puff has came a long way. The curry puff is smaller than most. The skin is thin and well fried to a golden brown. The fillings consist of potato cubes, chicken pieces and a slice of boiled egg. The star is definitely the rempah paste that coats every ingredient so well and it is aromatic and slightly spicy giving you the kick that is often missing in most curry puffs. I certainly enjoyed this one heck of a morsel. At $1.50, it certainly isnโt the cheapest.

My ultimate comfort food, the shio ramen from Tsukada Nojo. Simple, honest and quality ingredients, cooked with the heart, is all you need in a bowl of ramen. Their veggie are fresh and sourced locally while their chicken are from Hokkaido. On the savoury side, you can request for them to tone down the salt level (we recommend that). Nevertheless, the broth thickened naturally with chicken collagen tastes so heavenly and wholesome. The thin noodles are springy throughout the meal while soaking up the goodness of the collagen broth

At the Somerset branch on a Saturday afternoon, the queue stretches 40min but moves pretty fast. Known for their tea roasted from Taiwan, this drink consist of no tea therefore it does not best represent them. The brown sugar tasted more like gula melaka which is good as it gives it a more complex taste. The bubbles were not as soft as some others but were pretty sweet too. Overall a good boba drink.

Modern interpretation of the traditional Korean rice dish of bibimbap served in a ice cream pint like tub. Choose a meat/veg base before adding 5 veg sides and a sauce of choice. Fresh seared salmon cubes were my choice and it goes really well with the vegetables and the sauce - a mixture of apple cider gochujang and soy garlic - try it! Their sauces were on point with a good blend of savoury, sweet, and spicy and not one taste was overly powering. Give it a good shake in the tub and enjoy!

Used the burpple beyond 1 for 1 deal for main dishes and got ourselves char siew and roasted pork which are their signature dishes. Served in individual bowls, the roasted pork belly came in 8 thick slices, they leaned more towards the fatty side which was surprisingly a tad tough for 1-2 pieces. Of special mention is the rind which is quite crispy. Otherwise, they were pretty ordinary. The cut for the char siew was pork belly. Sweet with a tinge of sourness and flame torched, nothing mind blowing (pun not intended) and just okay for me.
The fried wantons were oily - way over the top and too salty. It was also dense and too salty. Does not pair well at all with the XO sauce.
The noodles (mee Kia) were light, springy and savory. The chilli was sourish and did not add much to the dish. Pork lard was soft and a little rancid. Overall, a very disappointing dinner, too salty and one dimensional. Seems like the focus of this place is the drinks and not the food. Wonโt be back.
Price: $10 for mains and $1 per bowl of noodles, $10 for fried wanton

Consisting of banana, almond, chia seed, avocado, spinach, kale, Greek yoghurt and coconut water, this shake sure feels healthy and the texture is pretty grainy due to the nuts. The dominant taste is the ๐ and a slight yoghurt after taste. Good for a after-meal drink to wash it all down. Staff were extremely grouchy on a Friday night and have โattitudeโ.

Freshly made ala order, these rice rolls were paper thin and wrapped with ingredients such as char siew, prawns, etc. The char siew were finely minced, giving it only the texture but not much of the taste. There wasnโt a lot too. The sauce was sweet-savory but lack depth but the sambal chilli lifted the rice rolls considerably. Overall a good plate of rice rolls.

The set comes with a soup, chose French onion and Clam chowder (top up applicable). Both soups were water like and lack how a good bowl of soup should be. The clam chowder came with just a couple of small clams and was unusually milky and I suspect thick cream was simply added to thicken the soup. As for the French Onion, it has lots of onion but still a lack down.
Ordered the Sesame chicken and the Thai style chicken popiah were quite unique and delicious albeit small. With roasted sesame sauce as itโs base, it is wrapped with veg and sprinkled liberally with peanuts. The Thai style chicken came with a mango (?) slice and was equally savory. Other than the popiah, the soups were a big letdown. Genmaicha from the tea bag was a nice touch to complete the meal.

More commonly known as โBest Lu Mian in Townโ as this is the only words that plastered the signboard. In actual fact, itโs ่ๅๅฆ้จ่กๅค้ข which translates to Famous Amoy Street Lor Mee. It has a long history which dates back to the 1960s. This lor mee is heavy on the palate as it kept me full for a really long time. A big part will be that all ingredients (hae zhor, fish, braised meat and fritters) were deep fried. The gravy was thick and gooey and pretty mild but went pretty well with the ingredients. Overall a decent bowl but be warned; itโs really filling and sinful.
Very first cup of brown shuga boba tea and boy, why did i wait so long to try?! Didn't think i would enjoy it as i drink all my bubble teas with 0% sugar but this is all kinds of wonderful textures - creamy, milky, soft, chewy, crunchy... and it's not toooooo sweet if you don't completely stir in the brown sugar and bubbles. Would definitely be back for more. Brown sugar boba milk (cold), $5.30.
Japanese curry rice is one soul food that I like but do not have it regularly. Located within King Albert Park Mall Residences, it was decorated minimally with some Japanese decor. The pork katsu was well-fried, light and not greasy, and the meat is from Hokkaido snow pork. You can definitely taste the marbling of the meat and itโs so tender! The curry was a mix between two types of Japanese curry โ the sweet apple style, and the slightly spicier style. Butter is also added to increase the smoothness of the curry and it goes down easily without feeling surfeit. A very nice and comforting meal.
