Specializing in Batang fish as the store name goes, it serves one kind of fish - the Spanish Mackerel or more commonly known as batang locally. Offering many carb options to go with the soup such as ban mian, bee hoon (thick or thin), noodles (all kinds) and also offering the tom yum option. The fish slices are sliced thickly which gives it a good bite. Minimally processed, it allows one to taste its freshness - though this varies at times. The soup has a nice umami too. My go-to place for fish soup.

Disappointed, cannot quite taste the Oreo crunch which was soft and not quite like Oreo. Thought itβs a pretty safe choice but was left disappointed as there are many better versions out there. Avoid.

From the Haikee Brothers who are famed for their soy sauce chicken, we decided to try their trio platter to see how their other roasts fare. Soy sauce chicken was tender but could be a little under-cooked; char siew was alright and average; roast meat was also ordinary and lastly the toufu which surprisingly is my favorite as it is well braised and still fairly soft while retaining its bite. Overall, the dish was alright but is pretty salty (not quite savoury).

Fluffy, soft, eggy and served warm - thatβs how I like my telur prata to be prepared and here at the Jalan Kayu cafe, they made it real well. Oh and with a teh tarik gula manis to wash it all down, itβs the best comfort snack food. Yumms

At just $3, this is a good plate of wanton mee thatβs good value and pretty delicious! Will start with the wanton which are plump and meaty. The mee kia are the only noodles sold here, and are springy which blends well with the chilli sauce. Char siew while is pretty average and on the lean side, complements perfectly too.

Good sized chunky carrot cake fried with fish sauce and chye poh, this is one dish not to be missed. Available in black (sweet soy sauce) or white, itβs fried to a slight crisp at the edges, and itβs a flavor bomb!

Ordered the Milo Dinosaur and Apple of my Eye (Apple Crumble), and turned out that the latter is the better of the two. Itβs well balanced between sweet and tart, and tasted fresh with lots of texture to it which complemented really well with the cheese. As for the Milo Dinosaur, it tasted more like a cake and the flavor was a tad overwhelming and tasted more like an ordinary piece of cocoa cake. The Milo powder was a nice touch.
Price: $6.90 (Milo Dinosaur) / $5.90 (Apple
Crumble)

Read up a little about this nondescript store at Tampines which was opened for a couple of months now, and had a decent level of expectations prior to visiting. Pork basil rice is a staple of Thai cuisine and a dish that any decent Thai place should be able to master. Sad to say that I quite disappointed - at $6 a plate is this hawker place, itβs not cheap for the place. The minced pork which was stirred fry in a sweet sauce, was dry and lacking in flavor. What most striking was that, it lacks the most important essence of the dish: basil πΏ! Spice wise, it grows on you with each bite. Overall, disappointing.

Attitude of the staff at this outlet was really bad. Was 1 sec late in indicating my preference and was not allowed to choose bee hoon with yellow noodle. Gravy was mild without much flavor and not of much depth. Fried fish was good though, fresh and piping hot, it was also not too oily.

Been drinking since 4 years ago where I used to work in the Chinatown area. Used to be better, and had seen better days. Flavor is now pretty watered down and not as full and aromatic as a cuppa of Nanyang coffee should be. Pretty average now to be honest. Inconsistency is their Achilles heel.

Simple dish but put together perfectly. Black beans, ground minced beef with cheese and sweet corn lying on a flat bed of rice. Pretty heavy on the palate and order if you are hungry. Wholesome meal.

Lauded as a Michelin awarded ramen at the newly opened Jewel Changi, expectations were high. Ambience was great as it was by the man-made waterfall. Well, that all it - the good of the place.
Extremely salty without depth in flavor, we do not understand which part of the salty we failed to appreciate. The service staff informed us that we could add plain broth to dilute the saltiness. Noodles and the ingredients were pretty run in the mil and nothing noteworthy. Portion wise was average.
