My version of comfort food at Sims Vista hawker centre. The noodles are cooked al dente with every strand well coated with the ketchup based gravy. The star is of course the ultra fresh batang (Spanish mackerel) which you can tell when it’s flaky and tender to the bite, and they are generous with it too.

Served as a side rather than as a main, it was pretty heavy and savory (salty) as well. Tender and full of flavor - great as an accompaniment to a carb dish.

Served in a bar and bistro, one will not usually expect Indian cuisine to be served. An above average briyani, meat was tender enough and well flavored. Rice was a tad dry and not the best grade of bismati rice was used. Loved the citrusy jam served with the pappadam as it serves to cut the richness of the dish.

Portion size is on a larger size and suitable for sharing.

Spicy salsa with prawn meat stuffed in the poori. It packs a punch but taste wise pretty one-dimensional. Would be great if there’s yoghurt too to undercut the heat and add to the flavor. Friendly gentleman (owner?) shared that it makes a good pairing with gin or whiskey. Set of 4 morsels at $10.80 presented interestingly on a wooden platform.

Chicken thigh meat wrapped with minced chicken mixed with leek, shiso leaf and egg yolk. Steamed and then scorched upon serving. Sounded promising and looked so yummy but it failed miserably. It was blend and did not taste how it looked. Also, the charred bits did not add to the taste, while added to the expectations and resulting disappointment. Will not order again.

Always a long queue, a sometimes good sign of good food (though not always true). This fish head bee hoon serves both sliced and fried versions though it seems that their fried version is their signature. Ordering both, we prefer the latter. The sliced ones while good, were a bit blah. On the other hand, the fried ones were meaty and the batter nicely coated the fish which made it even more savory. The soup base was flavorful and shaoxing wine is also added to it. Overall, a very satisfying bowl of fried fish bee hoon.

The A4 Wagyu chef selection (120g) were a mix of rump, off-cuts, lean and marbled meat. Made up of about 8 slices. Ordered an addition A4 marbled meat platter (60g) which consists of 4 pcs. From Kagoshima, their specialty lies in lean meat with grilling on crystal to ensure even cooking. Some cuts were really chewy and the marbled ones were okay - nothing to shout about and had better ones. Also felt that the crystal plate where the cooking was done was gimmicky as it does not add a different dimension or flavor to it. The portions were too small for the high prices.

Price: $38 for 120g platter and $25 for 60g

Unique and interesting dish. Not quite a donburi in the way we know it, we were told to taste the razor thin pieces of wagyu that were sitting atop the Japanese rice. Not much flavor as it was sliced way too thinly. Next, we added the condiments that included strips of seaweed and small round rice puffs into the bowl before pouring over the bonito broth. The broth was light and refreshing and complemented very nicely with the rice and beef slices. Do note that the price for this dish has increased considerably from $25 to $38 - really expensive for such a small serving!

A personal favorite of mine, this is one of the last remaining Hokkien delicacies that is slowly dying out. Now managed by its third generation owners, it has moved from its original location at China street where they operated by push cart to its present location at Maxwell market.

4 of the most important ingredients in a ngoh hiang is handmade and they are the meat roll, egg cake, pink sausage and the liver roll. Ordered the first three, and they were truly savory and delightful. As a Hokkien myself, I truly appreciate the flavors that is traditional, satisfying and importantly, made with much sincerity - use of real ingredients without the use of fillers. The bee hoon is also delightful and light on the palate.

Tacos de Asada (marinated steak) and Tacos de Pescado (grilled white dory) were our choices of the meal and they did not disappoint! Our preference was the grilled dory as it was fresh and meaty. The flavors also came through beautifully and complemented well with the hot sauces - could be stronger though. Last but not least, how can we forget the wonderful handmade corn tortillas that capped off a wonderful meal. The servings are small though.

Two generous strips of beer-battered dory on a bed of fries, accompanied by a coleslaw, tartar sauce and a small serving of boiled peas (despite the menu description, they weren't quite the same as mushy peas). Priced at $25 at lunch. Part of Harry's offerings for weekday 1-for-1 lunch, this is an okay deal if you have another dining partner.
