short rib, tongue and another cut of beef. all for 990 yen. ($12) there is no chance you will get beef at that price in singapore. the short rib is rich and fatty; the tongue is chewy and meaty - this was a delicious meal.

i had absolutely no idea you could grill onigiri and it would taste so good. it reminded me of the crispy burnt bits at the bottom of a claypot dish, except that they took all of that and turned it into a riceball. an absolutely amazing find.

what stands on 4 legs, eats grass, and can be eaten raw? cow is a good answer but that’s actually horse sashimi! strangely i thought it tasted like a cross between raw tuna and rare steak, but it turned out pretty delicious in the end!

a large proportion of the customers in this dessert house are females. but that shouldn’t deter anyone from going in. the matcha bavarois is a perfectly set square of creamy, bitter pudding. eaten with a smidge of whipped cream and some azuki, japanese dessert doesn’t get any more traditional or delicious!

i throw around the word ‘delicious’ here but this chicken ramen was really out of this world. the chicken broth, blended with soy, was amazingly rich yet clean - super drinkable. the noodles were cooked perfectly yielding a good bite. the chicken and pork char siew was juicy and meaty. i don’t have any other words to say but you have to try it to believe how good it tastes.

crusty bread, freshly made tamago, smear of mustard - breakfast is served! one of several egg sandwiches i tried in tokyo hehe.

the japanese took neapolitan pizza and perfected it. to be more specific, they improve on it every day. the crust on this pizza is light and airy; the smoked mozzarella is delightfully chewy and the cherry tomatoes offer a burst of freshness. a real delight.

i never liked udon from the packets you find at the supermarket, but it turns out freshly made udon is so much better. slippery smooth with a good bite, it is ever so delicious. and this version at shin udon topped with shoyu butter, mentaiko and a poached egg is the best thing that ever happened to udon.

one of my favourite meals from my first tokyo trip two years ago, and one of the few things i ate again. the tender roast beef, creamy yolk and slightly tart yoghurt dressing come together in blissful harmony and the meal was such a delight.

i saw an episode of ‘Worth It’ on youtube where the cast hunted down this chocolate cake in yoyogi. according to the owner, good chocolate cake should not be all sweet but bitter. this cake is a good example of that. the sweet sponge layers are contrasted against the bitter ganache and icing, resulting in an extremely smooth tasting cake. the bitterness accentuates the chocolate flavour while the sweetness reminds
you that you are having cake. it is so good.

the famous yuzu shoyu ramen from AFURI. the thin noodles make for easy slurping while the rich, salty broth is enlivened with bright yuzu. easy on the palate and doesn’t leave you feeling bloated after.
