Delicious dry vinegar beef noodles for $5.50.
Goes well with chilli oil, and the carrot and cucumber shavings prevent the dish from tasting overly-dry.
The beef portions are large and create value in the dish, and complement the noodles perfectly.
Despite being a condiment usually only used in moderation, the vinegar does not end up being excessive, and provides a savoury spin to the noodles.
At a budget, this is my go-to meal from WHYQ.

Grade: A

Rather costly mala which tasted relatively mild when I tried Zhong La.
Price wasnt that good either, costing $40 for 4 pax despite not being that filling.

Grade B-

Really affordable Tom Yum Ban Mian from the noodle stall in PGP.
Costing $4.50, the portion is very generous, and I had more than my fill.

Grade: B+

Aromatic fried rice with beef morsels which cost $8.
I think it tasted alright, although the price point was a little high for the scant amount of beef.

Grade: B+

Bite-sized chicken cost about $12.90 for 6 pcs and tasted moderately dry.

The sauce wasnt that spicy, and tasted sweet despite being advertised with a chilli logo.

The part that impressed me was the waiting time, as I was comedically passed a buzzer that activated when I was walking to my seat.

Grade: B

Once in a while, I will have cravings to savour the famed indoor foodcourt PGP mala with my friends, and would usually order medium spicy (Zhong La), kang kong, and some meat.
For mala in NUS, PGP mala is perhaps the most affordable, and I usually eat my fill spending about $8 per pax. Unfortunately, the prices of items are not indicated, making buying mala a financially risky decision.

Value for money aside, the mala is mainly cooked with chilli oil and not a lot of herbs. Ordering high spicy (Da La) or very high spicy (Te La) also incurrs an additional cost of $0.50-$1. Unfortunately, topping up the money simply adds the number of chilli flakes to the bowl, and the spice level did not provide much of a challenge for me.

Grade: B

For $4, the Fish and Chips provided a filling poverty meal.
The coleslaw, fries and baked beans were pre-packaged, which is normal for food of this price point. I didn't enjoy the sides much, but the fish was decent.
The fish portion was rather sizeable and proved a filling meal, and went down well with some chilli sauce.

For its price, this provided value for hunger, however, I would not eat this for the sake of enjoyment.

Grade: B

Since young, my favourite food was chinese Beef Brisket Lamian at Banquet in Causeway point, topped with chinese Chilli Oil. Sadly, the store closed down, and I had difficulties finding the same dish outside restaurants like Din Tai Fung.

When I discovered Tai Feng Wei, I found my favourite dish in NUS. Although pricey at $6.30, the machine-cut noodles complement well with the tender and favourably-sized beef and chilli oil. The vegetables are also adequately leafy and not overly stalky like in cheaper stores.
For a very filling experience, I add noodles ($$0.80) and always end up highly satisfied. However, that is not necessary, and I only do so out of my sheer enjoyment of the dish.

Grade: A

When I went to Timbre+, Burgs caught my eye for its long queues and visually appealing burgers. Turns out that the store collected orders in batches, resulting in a long queuing time for customers.

Upon trying the Double pulled beef burger ($9.90), I was impressed by the tenderness of the burger, but felt that the ketchup sauce was far too rich. This result in the end result where the burger tasted far too sweet for a meat dish.
A side note i had was that I bit into a bone midway through the burger, furthering my negativity bias towards this review.

Carbs wise, the fries were thick and crispy while the bun was soft and fluffy, with the logo of the brand toasted on the surface. Nothing special of note.

Grade: B+

Grilled pork collar drizzled with a brown sauce.
Meat slices were tender and soft, as expected of a dish of this price point.
The pork slices had a bit too much of fat for my liking, but the food was generally really good.
Being a meat dish, the portion sizing was small, and I relied upon the carrots and beans to have my fill.
Price: $26++
Grade: B+

This was my favourite dish at The Assembly Ground.
This was a thin crusted pizza which had a rich creamy taste and aroma, which blended in with the chunks of chicken to create what can only be described as gastronomic bliss.
Definitely recommend sharing at $24++

Grade: A

Ordered beef medium rare.
Burger was really filling, with the a remarkably juicy patty which complemented the bun and cheese perfectly.
The curly fries and salad provided a perfect supplement to the burger, resulting in a satisfying meal for the price.
