$4.90 // pretty cheap considering the quality, and a breakfast bagel kind of thing is much more expensive than other places. love keong saik bakery’s bread texture, it’s always so soft and chewy and this one was baked with cheese on the top which made it even tastier. comes with cream cheese + pepper spread, 3 slices of bacon (very generous) and a cute star shaped sunny side up egg!! overall a rly hearty breakfast item, was great!!
$5.50 // MAD YUMZ!!! the croissant texture was perfect (flaky and yet so soft + chewy on the inside) and ahh the burnt cream cheese was multi-dimensional (flavor wise), smooth and creamy and added to the chewiness of the whole cruffin!! (i think it’s the same cheese as their cheesecake but melted) the cheese didn’t ooze out of my cruffin when i cut it but maybe cos it wasn’t heated up enough, but not that i’m complaining !!
this was a really worthy spending of my calorie limit XD
$4 // this was marketed as their signature dish but it really was nothing special at all in my opinion. what i liked was the texture of the bread (flaky outer layer and very soft inside) but the black layer was just the normal bread but in a black color. the description for this bread includes chocolate chips, but the amount was soooo little that it might as well not have been there 😕 so it really was just me eating plain bread by the end of it. not sure why this is their signature when there are way better items at keong saik bakery.
(makes me kinda sad though since there are so many interesting flavors that could be done with the black and white combi like black sesame or even a stronger dark chocolate bread??? sighzzz)
$8 // yuMZZZ. this cheesecake was baked to perfection and i love how strong the matcha flavor was and how it wasn’t too sweet. the cheese taste was also there and both flavors complemented each other without any being too overpowering. the burnt caramelized top added a slight crunch to the smooth cream cheese cake layer — i was truly in matcha heaven 🍵💚💚
only downside is that it’s kinda pricey especially since the slice was on the small side but oh wellz
$8.80 // interesting concept from hoshino coffee’s seasonal menu!! it’s basically a dark chocolate chiffon cake that is sliced open halfway so it’s in the shape of a book, and it’s filled with chantilly cream, nama chocolate and chocolate crunch (which i didn’t get to taste because i dropped it 😕😕). they also give you a small canister of valrohna chocolate sauce to drizzle over the cake. the cake itself was a bit dry but the dark chocolate taste was rich (and not artificial at all), but when eaten together with the other components, it makes for a fairly solid chocolate cake (enough to satisfy your cravings without you feeling unfulfilled).
overall, it was good and worth trying but i still feel that hoshino has other better signature desserts!!
$11 //
felt nourished after this healthy AND tasty lunch at autobus!! i liked how it came with so many options for the base/protein/toppings and i decided to get the penne pasta, baked fish, garlic butter broccoli, onsen egg and furikake and hot + spicy sauce.
the pasta was yumz - lightly tossed in olive oil and some herb seasoning(?) (and it was a decent portion for me to be filled but not be over loading on carbs, which felt great lol)
baked fish - was given 2 chunks and i liked the way it was done, lightly pan fried and then baked so the skin was really crispy and the fish was very fresh as well
the hot and spicy sauce was spicy enough and had a slight tang to it, which complemented the fish and pasta well
the broccoli was more mehhh, it was really just boiled broccoli, no garlic butter taste that was mentioned, and could do with a bigger portion of veggies
the furikake was really just black and white sesame seeds, and idk i think i expected other japanese toppings to be added in the mix for it to be called furikake??
overall, enjoyed this meal sufficiently but i do think the price of $11 is a bit on the steeper side for what you are getting
$38 per set // hidden within the lush flower dome of gardens by the bay lies fennel cafe, where i had an enjoyable tea time!! this set came with about 5 bite-sized savory and sweet items of a mediterranean-french theme, so each item was of unique flavors and not your typical afternoon tea menu.
all of the items were scrumptious and some of the items i enjoyed more due to its uniqueness were the mushroom croquette, red pepper hummus and sourdough chips, spiced creme catalan tart and citrus dark chocolate scone. due to each item being bite sized, i got to enjoy a wide variety of flavors without being too full, which left me feeling just right to go explore the flower dome after my meal!!
you’re entitled to enter the flower dome with the afternoon tea set so that made my meal more worth it!!
the quality and taste of the food definitely matched up to the great garden themed dining experience i had, and i’d sure to come back for more if they offer new seasonal menus 🌸🌸
smoked cheese and arugula pizza ($16) + peach snapper with a shot of tequila ($8 + $4 for the shot) // the food was justifiable, not bad but also nothing to rave about, it was good enough to leave my palette a little more than satisfied. and the cocktail as well, enjoyed the quality because it was rather strong and it wasn’t just a pure soda kind of taste
the real star of the evening was the vibes and views of this place!!! all the tables are laid out on the sand and with fairy lights strung all around, the sea within my reach and armed with a little bit of alcohol, i felt transported into the world of a tropical vacation and was in such a relaxed mood. would totally recommend for the decent food and especially if you have the feels for a short getaway 😛🍹☀️
$24 // lmao wished for cake and got WAY more than i could have ever asked for. 10 alternating layers of chocolate devil’s food cake and peanut butter mascarpone, 2 of my absolute favorite flavors and also my guilty pleasures!! the cake was fudgey and moist and the peanut butter mascarpone cream cheese frosting was great as well and it was covered in chocolate ganache, which was the perfect cake combination, but idk who thought it was a good idea for a 20 layer cake, and why did i think it was a good idea too lol. ate and ate and ate and yet we barely made a dent in the cake, even though it was SUPER good. (and we were so sick of it at the end to even think of bringing it home as a takeaway, and i also noticed a lot of other tables didn’t finish their cake as well) i guess this is a novelty thing, but if u plan to eat this, i recommend u bring a few more people and be super hungry before coming 🤪🤪
but the ambience at lavo was amazing, such chill vibes against the backdrop of singapore’s skyline and the setting sun!!!
$13 // happened to be in the area in time for breakfast and this item really caught my eye.... and well there’s no rule against ice cream for breakfast so why not ‼️‼️
from the moment the plate was placed on my table, there was a strong fragrance of pandan and coconut and it was really such a joy!!!! the pancakes were just the way i like, fluffy and soft and not too heavy, with a strong and natural taste of pandan and hints of butter. it’s best eaten with a good douse of gula melaka syrup and coconut ice cream since all 3 flavors complement each other perfectly and i was thoroughly satisfied with each forkful i took!! what’s good is that it didn’t get too sickeningly sweet even by the end of the dish
10/10!! can’t wait to come back and try their other breakfast items :-)) (and their coffee too omy)
$5.90 ($1 off for smu students) // really appreciate having healthy lunch options in this area!! (since the options of cheap + healthy are quite rare)
tried the vegetarian friendly bagel-wich, compromising of seasonal hummus, oven baked mushrooms and topped with grated cheese and fresh parsley. you can choose from a plain, sesame or onion bagel, and i opted for the onion one.
the freshly toasted onion bagel was fluffy (without being overly dense) and the onion flavor really added depth to each bite, especially when paired with the whole flavor profile of the mushrooms and hummus spread.
this was a quick, easy, value for money and really hearty lunch that i enjoyed thoroughly!! would definitely be back again
$7.50 // wanted to try one of the flavors on the menu but the one i wanted was sold out so i decided to customize my own fillings!! have always wanted to try the blueberry bagel so i chose that + since i’m a sucker for sweet foods, for the fillings i got: peanut butter + jelly and honey ricotta 🥜🍇🍯🧀 needless to say, it was truly madly yumz!!!!
i feel like bagels are kinda rare in sg and these were sooo nice, since it was freshly made so it was still hot and fluffy and crispy on the flat side. the blueberry bagel was mildly sweet and had chunks of blueberries in it. the filling combination rly complemented each other, salty pb + sour raspberry jam + sweet & creamy ricotta 🤤🤤
it’s kinda expensive but i guess you’re paying for high quality + super satisfying due to how nice it was so it made my $$ worth it!!
10/10 and would definitely come back and try some of the other flavors
