$13 // super generous portion of torched salmon cubes with fluffy japanese rice, blended in with their special soy sauce for the rice --- quite the delightful meal!! ((only thing confusing about this was the dark brown cubes u can see in the pic, they were somewhat like soy sauce jelly, v strange but maybe u are supposed to mix it in with the rice?? oh wellz)
loved the minimalistic japanese-style interior in this open concept restaurant and it was great that they provided free iced water and there was no gst/service charge!!
$11.50++ for soft serve ice cream + single waffle // might b a little pricey for the size, but it is well worth it!!! i swear out of all the waffles/ice cream places i’ve been to, this one still remains tops. intricately balanced ice cream flavors, perfect combination of creamy and icy (so that it isn’t too rich but also not too watered down) and crispy/fluffy/sweet waffles. legit major yumz. got the sea salt gula melaka and earl grey lavender ice cream today and both were 💯💯💯
loved how my items came in such earthy japanese interior design worthy cutlery - really added to my matcha cafe experience lol (!)
lavender earl grey mille crepe // $8.50 // never really tried mille crepe cakes before so for a first timer, i would assume this fits the criteria of a decently good mille crepe cake. fluffy lavender chantilly cream paired with thin crepes made this a pleasantly palatable dessert, without the stuffed feeling after. i felt like the lavender flavor was very strong (which may be a problem if you don’t have a preference for floral type flavors) and overpowered the earl grey flavor. couldn’t rly taste any earl grey tbh, so you should only get this if you’re craving something floral and not if you want to satiate any earl grey cravings.
rose + matcha macarons // $3 each // the flavors were very intense for both macarons, which was great but the biscuit shells were a bit too crunchy for my liking as i prefer my macarons to be more chewy in the center. may be better to have your macarons elsewhere
hojicha tea // $4.50 // expensive for a single cup of tea, but with such precision in brewing and authentic roasted green tea taste, i guess it was worth it
overall, i’d come back to matchaya but maybe next time i’d stick with their ice creams instead.
$8.80 for a set of ice cream + lava cookie // was in the vicinity and decided to pop by for a cute snack!! got the chocolate lava cookie + speculoos ice cream today — warm, freshly baked cookie that had a sugar cookie crunch like texture around the edges with a gooey center and oozing out chocolate, paired together with the icy cold ice cream (yuck look at me and my lack of a better adjective to describe ice cream) makes for a treat that is mad yumz !!!
$16 // pan-fried chicken cutlet (which was rly juicy and not dry at all) covered in garlic brown butter sauce, mushrooms and an onsen egg on top of fragrant japanese rice!! mix it all up together for the best combination of savoury with hints of teriyaki sweetness in each bite 🤤🤤
$18 // essentially a mala pasta (not overly spicy) and the lap cheong crumble + tobiko really added dimensions to each bite. loved the al dente blue pea curly pasta, but recommended to share this because the portion was so big and i was so full even after sharing. overall, not too bad!!
$2.90 // was honestly very underwhelmed by this, felt like a normal bun instead of a donut?? + not sure why i was only able to taste the earl grey flavor on the last few bites and the first few bites just had the taste of plain bread + icing sugar 😕😕 but i did like that it was very fluffy and not oily at all!! overall, i’d give this a pass or maybe you can try other flavors if you happen to be there!!
$4.50 // BEST BROWNIES I’VE EVER EATEN!!!!! crispy exterior and so soft, melt in your mouth interior + the textures of the pink salt and bitterness of black cocoa make it such a balanced flavor profile, and each bite was such an adventure. 10/10 will recommend !! a bittt pricey for a relatively small piece (so savour it and eat slowly) but very worth it for how good it was!!! will b back someday to try the other flavors. (also, do drop them an insta dm the day before to reserve the flavors you want before going to the store so as to not waste your trip there if the item you want happens to be sold out)
$6.90 // (a little pricey, but the size was in a big enough portion so my money felt worth). this is as good as it sounds, essentially a cookie butter cheesecake sitting within a buttery, cookie crust. cookie butter and cream cheese fillings were generously given!! would definitely recommend 😋😋
$8.80 (20% off for lasalle students) // crust was done just the way i like it, a decent level of thickness that let me have the “doughy” feeling but also not too thick so i didn’t feel like i was overstuffed with carbs by the end of my meal. light toppings of mushroom, teriyaki sauce, japanese mayonnaise and a slight amount of cheese. major yumz 🤤🤤 would definitely come back again
$5.90 but $1 off for students // love the idea of how customizable this bowl is and for a reasonable price. choose between tofu, duck, salmon, chicken, beef or unagi and rice, soba or salad. opted for a vegetarian meal in an attempt to be healthy !! the portion was good and the torched mentaiko sauce paired with the glazed tofu was rly such a treat - makes me want to eat healthy all the time now lol. and it was even topped with an onsen egg
