This picturesque cafe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch or tea with your other half, your girlfriends or simply with a good book in hand. With natural sunlight streaming in through the glass surroundings, this small glasshouse offers the most splendid of toasts at an affordable price. We got the avocado and dukkah spice, scrambled eggs with smoked tomatoes, smoked salmon with cream cheese and espresso berry with mascarpone cheese toasts, each for $10 or below respectively. It is a beautiful cafe in a peaceful location with aesthetic foods that taste as good as they look. 10/10 would recommend :-)
After months of talking about this place, we finally visited it for brunch!!!! We ordered the aburi salmon and a DIY chirashi bowl. We were tentative at first because there was barely anyone at the restaurant, but we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt because after all, it was opened by the Ministry of Food. We did not regret it :-) the aburi salmon bowl was torched to perfection with a substantial amount of mentaiko covering it. It was enough to balance out the salmon and rice yet it was not overwhelming (after all, I personally think that mentaiko can become a bit "gelak" after a while. Anyhow, the dish was well-balanced, with the sweetness from the rice, the wholeness from the salmon and the "wokhei" from the torched mentaiko. The DIY chirashi was good too, although I did wish that the pieces of sashimi on top was smaller. However, the sashimi (salmon and tuna to be exact) were fresh and paired well with the seaweed and rice. The condiments (there were 4 complimentary sides for a medium DIY chirashi bowl) were not the best, it felt a little out of place rather than compliment the bowl. However, overall, both dishes were good and definitely worth the affordable price paid. Do not be afraid of empty places for looks can be deceiving!!! I'm glad I stepped in to try the food offered by Kaisen Tei.
I have very little to say about this place except to bring your friends, your family, anyone to this place if they enjoy coffee!!!! I ordered the mocha for $6 and it tasted absolutely amazing. The aroma and taste was ideal, with the coffee and chocolate being perfectly balanced. It was not too sweet and the soy milk (at an additional $1) sealed the deal for me. The ambience is lovely, being a place I will highly recommend for an afternoon tea or a coffee break. It was minimalistic, simple and brimming with good vibes. The atmosphere sung "coffee" as we were surrounded by everything you will associated with it, i.e. coffee machines, blackboards advertising coffee classes and the general equipment. A pleasant place to be, this cafe holds true to its name: The Coffee Academics.
After craving Thai for so long, especially when you see the prices on the menu, finally the day has come to dine at Nakhon!!!! The snaking queues were slightly shorter than usual since we started queuing at 6.20 and by 6.45 we were seated! How exhilarating it is to be seated while you observe the queue getting longer and longer 😛😛😛 as usual, this place did not disappoint with the ingredients being fresh despite the low prices. The portions were reasonable as well and the food was generally well seasoned. We had the green curry with chicken, basil pork rice, squid with basil (although next time I'd like to try the curry version), tom yum with prawns, fish cakes, mango salad, kang kong and mixed vegetables, all of which were delicious. It sounds like a lot but it was well portioned such that you can try an assortment of dishes without being stuffed by one alone. The Thai coconut was also on point, I highly recommend!!!! If you manage to catch the timings where the crowd is smaller and the queues are shorter, come for a truly authentic Thai experience!
Been wanting to try this eatery for the longest time ever since I saw pictures online and heard abt it because the food looked absolutely stunning. I ordered the original poke bowl filled with brown rice, shoyu salmon cubes, spiced cashews, pickled mushrooms, lime avocados and topped off with the usual poke bowl toppings. I have no words to describe the taste of this dish, it was just brimming with flavor and texture, basically an extremely well thought out and cohesive poke bowl ($17). I will definitely come back to order it again. It has lived up to my hype for sure 😛😛😛😛
Return to senate coffee because someone was craving soba and I remembered that this place served rly good grain bowls at an affordable price! I believe it has been a year or two since I visited originally so I was eager to see if the standards have risen or dropped. Sad to say, the portions seemed to have decreased from the last time, which makes me sad because I love full and brimming bowls :-( the taste redeemed it a little however, with the teriyaki salmon (at an extra dollar) being perfectly cooked and seasoned. The three grain base offered a pleasant texture to the entire dish and went well with the chili lime cashews (still my fave), zucchini, mushrooms and purple cabbage slaw. I personally think the zuchini and slaw were a tad disappointing because they were rather one dimensional. I expected a more in depth flavor especially since their descriptions made them sound rly tasty. However, the mushrooms were definitely marinated well. All in all, I think this was still a pleasant experience and a cafe that I will recommend to anyone who loves a chill ambience and affordable healthy food!
Lucious, rich, creamy and dark, this affogato did not go easy on us, and I say this for good reason. The chocolate sorbet had the ultimate chocolate flavor and was complimented by the bittersweet double espresso shot. Let's jazz it up a little more shall we? By adding brownie chunks, biscuit bits and a thin circular slab of dark chocolate itself in the beautifully presented glass. You'd probably pass away if you ate this on your own, but sharing it with others will make it sweet ending to your meal. It ain't cheap though, at $13.90 per affogato. But well worth the price. After all, where else can you get such a unique experience based on a quirky twist on a coffee classic.
Despite this little cafe specializing in affogatos, we decided to give their bagels a shot and boy were we glad we did. The smoked chicken bagel ($13.90) and the beef bagel ($14.90) were fantastic, with the salt from the protein and sweetness from the cream cheese spread that held the bagels together. I was also rly impressed by being able to choose the type of bagel (i.e. Sea salt, Sesame, Multigrain etc.) It was quite a light meal which was good because that left room for dessert!!!! After all, you can't come to an affogato bar without ordering the affogato. We got the dark chocolate, comprising of brownie, chocolate sorbet and double espresso ($13.90). Although it was costly, it was definitely an experience and a twist on the classic coffee drink. Would highly recommend this cosy cafe near Clony Court any day.
Finally!!!!!! After talking about this place for months after seeing it on the smart local, we decided to have it for dinner. We both ordered the triple cheese beef patty ($20.80++) which came with tempura and a few other sides, all of which were perfectly cooked. But the star of the meal was the tender beef patty that oozed with three types of cheese. It melts in your mouth with a distinct sweetness that you can't really get anywhere else. Let's not forget to mention the salad bar which comprised of a long row of assorted ramen, soba, pumpkin, sweet potato, potato salad, greens, toppings and salad dressings. The egg station sealed the deal, with 6 different types available (I highly recommend the tamago). It is basically a buffet. And a top notch buffet that I will gladly pay for with no regrets.
I don't know why I haven't tried this place sooner.... I think it just made it to my top 3 places for grain bowls 😛😛😛 at an affordable price of $13.80, there are so many options to choose from! (1 grain + 1 protein + 3 sides) and they are generous with every portion. I got the black rice with garlic, falafel and beetroot daal, guac, broccoli and cauliflower salad as well as sweet potato. In addition to that, I chose the teriyaki miso dressing and got a complimentary dollop of alfalfa sprouts. It was so satisfying, a good quantity of healthy food to have on a plate for sure. It was also one of the few places whose grain bowls are so packed with flavor. Every component was tasty and could easily be eaten on its own (this is especially enjoyable for people like me who like to eat the items individually instead of mixing them all together). What a wonderful contrast of flavors and textures, a new favorite !
Sis originally wanted to eat two burgers for dinner so we had to search for a burger that was cheap so that she could afford two.... Decided to try out Dojo, a stall situated in the basement of somerset that specializes in pork burgers (they don't sell beef). We got the Big Boss ($9) and a side of cheesy fries ($4). To be honest, the burger completely exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a normal sized burger for it's price, it was also bursting with flavor. The pork patty was moist, the bacon was crispy, the sunny side egg was runny, the cheese was melty and they gave a good portion to veggies to cut through the richness. This was all sandwiched between two warm and fluffy buns. The fries however, were a little disappointing. I read melted cheese on the menu but instead, they gave us a cheese sauce, which was also on the more stingy side in proportion to the fries. The fries were not bad, golden brown and crispy. However, I will recommend the burger over the fries any day. It is the answer to burger cravings without leaving a hole in your wallet!
Returned to this gem at Telok Ayer for a second time in less than a week to satisfy poke bowl cravings again!!!!! This time, in addition to the poke bowl, we ordered the maca nutter smoothie bowl which compromises of banana ice cream (banana, soy milk and mama powder), topped with pomegranates, cashews and a drizzle of chocolate. I think the portion is definitely worth $6 although the banana ice cream wasn't as creamy as I hoped it would be. Despite that, the affordable quality of this place still holds true! A poke place to keep!
