Had been passing by Alexandra Village Food Centre and noticing this stall with a signboard that says DESSERT on its stall front; the stall can be found around one of the rows situated in the middle of the entire food centre. We have always been wondering what the stall serves up as the stall is often closed by the time we pass by the food centre — turns out, DESSERT is a stall that serves up gelato in the food centre. DESSERT isn’t the first such stall to have appeared in a hawker centre, though this concept still remains rather uncommon over the years. Carrying a variety of gelato flavours on its menu, all of the flavours available for the day are prominently displayed in the display chiller at the front of the stall — it is worth noting that DESSERT does serve up quite a number of dairy-free flavours on its menu as well. For those whom would like to have something to go along with their gelato, DESSERT does offer croffle sticks for patrons to go along with their gelato.
During our visit there, we found ourselves eyeing on the Hibiscus Apple Sorbet and Smoked Oolong Gelato — these were the flavours that stood out when we skinned through the display chiller at the stall. We had also added the Croffle Stick to go along with the gelatos and sorbets. Both flavours of the sorbet / gelato were a hit for our tastebuds — the Hibiscus Apple Sorbet does come as a pretty refreshing especially given how it is a sorbet flavour that comes with a floral base whilst coming with bits of caramelised apples that adds on another dimension of sweetness; all that whilst also coming with an element of a soft bite. The Smoked Oolong Gelato in the meanwhile does carry quite a strong hint of tea on its own; the tea aroma it carries being more akin to that of pure tea rather than that of milk tea. The textures of both the gelato were pretty decent; the Hibiscus Apple Sorbet doesn’t come icy, while the Smoked Oolong Gelato still carries a smooth and creamy consistency. Meanwhile, the Croffle Stick is essentially a mini-croissant that has went under the waffle press with an ice-cream stick stuffed in the middle; the compressed pastry carrying a light and flaky texture with a buttery fragrance to go along with the gelato being smothered on top.
