Alexandra Village Food Centre had recently reopened after its refurbishment and renovation works and there already has been some talk about a particularly new tenant that had recently moved into one of the stall units situated within the food centre. Dip Fried Chicken is a new establishment that is run by young hawkerpreneurs that had recently found new digs within the food centre — these folks can be found taking up a corner stall unit that is within the same row of stalls where one can also find Star Yong Kwang BBQ Seafood and Danger Close Beverage Company that are also located in the food centre; this would be the side of the food centre that is faces the row of auto workshops that are located right behind the food centre. Dip Fried Chicken is a stall that should be fairly easy to spot from afar considering its colourful signage that bears cute illustrations of a chicken holding up a fried drumstick; the signboard also uses a striking orange background that creates a visual pop. As the namesake suggests, Dip Fried Chicken is an establishment that specialises in their fried chicken offerings; all items are sold in sets which sees the fried chicken coming in 3pcs / 2pcs / 1pc / Karaage / Kids Meal set options — patrons to get a choice to go for one out
of two sauce options, whilst one can also opt for either rice of fries with coleslaw to come with their order.

During our visit to Dip Fried Chicken, we found ourselves going for the 2 Pc Meal — we did add-on for our order to come with both sauce options that are available to choose from; we also went with the fries with coleslaw option for our order. An electronic buzzer will be issued upon payment at the counter and this would be used to page the patron to return to the stall to collect the order once the food is ready to be served. It is noted that for the 2 Pc Meal, the chicken parts that came with our order were a chicken wing and a chicken drumstick. Everything don the plate does seem to be freshly-fried upon order. Going straight for the fried chicken first, we note that the chicken has been brined before being fried that gives it a light, savoury note — we really liked how they seem to use fresh chicken here rather than that of frozen chicken; the chicken meat is tender, juicy and immensely succulent, whilst the golden-brown deep-fried exterior does carry a crisp yet slightly crunchy texture almost similar to that of biscuit crumbs. There is also definitely a herb and spice mix going on in there which most certainly gave the fried chicken ample flavour. The fries that accompany the fried chicken are shoestring fries that have been fried to a good crisp on the exterior, whilst revealing fluffy potatoes within — the fries here are also seasoned just about right for flavour, and also does work well with the sauces.

Between the Sour Cream & Onion and Hainanese Chili dip, our preferences was for the former; the Hainanese Chili dip does seem to use the Sour Cream & Onion as a base, and is a creamy sauce with a slight tang with a slight hint of spiciness that tickles the tastebuds and should be alright for those whom are tolerable to less than moderate levels of spiciness. This does seem to somewhat differ a little from the more zippy and tangy Hainanese Chicken Rice chili that we have thought it would be that would also comes sans the creaminess. The accompanying coleslaw comes served chilled with a mix of different leafy vegetables that gives it a crunch with a dressing that binds everything together — pretty refreshing, though not quite as outstanding as others that we have come across elsewhere. Given how the fried chicken at Dip Fried Chicken is being executed, they do seem to have a pretty solid recipe at their hands for their deep-fried chicken; we definitely left being pretty impressed with the fried chicken that they have to offer which is something that is good on its own to make return visits for. We do hope that they could perhaps work something out for their Hainanese Chili dip — though arguably we could also understand that this is also a direction that these folks had decided to go for. Prices for their fried chicken sets are also pretty wallet-friendly in general; the 1 Pc Meal starts at $5.80, with the 3 Pc Meal being priced at $9.80. A pretty promising hawker stall that is worth checking out!
