Had the most amazing Turkish meal at 27 Mezze and we were so blessed to be trying their new menu!
Before I get to the food, wanted to shoutout to Ozlem (the owner) and Othman (the waiter) for their warm hospitality and kind generosity for sharing this culinary experience with us. So SO grateful! They were so friendly and eager to share about the dishes, that it made our time here so much more memorable! Thank you again!
Whether or not you're a fan of Turkish cuisine, I think 27 Mezze is definitely one of those spots perfect for date nights of gatherings with friends and/or family. Featuring a focussed menu of 27 distinctive dishes, there is surely something for everyone.
We started off with the 3 Dips Platter ($34) featuring our choice of Hummus, Smoked Red Capsicum Dip, and Cheese & Basil Dip - incredibly flavourful and smooth, these went so well with the soft chewy pita bread. A friend once told me that you could tell the quality of the Turkish restaurant by the quality of their hummus and pita bread, and right then I knew we were in for a treat.
Next, we had our appetisers of Dancing Cauliflower ($14) and Garlic Butter Shrimp ($19). The cauliflower was personally my favourite of the night, as I'm a sucker for any cauliflower dish done right and this was simply superb. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked with its nutty flavour complemented by the delicious batter and the tangy salsa - I'm still thinking about it today! Not to be beat was the Shrimps which went perfectly with the garlic butter and red capsicum, and I only wish I had the stomach space for more pita bread to soak in the gloriously delicious butter.
On to the mains, we decided to go with the Turkish BBQ Chicken ($28) which was so tender and juicy, and don't forget the caramelised onions to give it another layer of flavour! The meat also paired well with the drinks we got - Raki ($10 for single shot), which is Turkey’s national alcoholic drink made of grapes and aniseed, and the Grapefruit Gin Fizz ($18).
Finally, of course we had to end the meal with a sweet treat. 27 Mezze offers the Turkish Vanilla Pudding ($16) and the classic Kunefe ($20). The vanilla pudding came beautifully presented, and tasted the same way too, creamy and florally sweet with a crunch of tartness from the pomegranate seeds. However, it was the Kunefe that really made the night. When Othman recommended this with pride in his voice, I knew we wouldn't be let down. The dough shreds were wonderfully light, and stayed crisp with the cheese stuffing and the glaze of sweet syrup (and not soaked in it like what I had in other Turkish joints). This is a must-get!
Thank you Ozlem again for this opportunity and Othman for being such a wonderful complement to the meal. Would definitely be back!
