Foodgae finally made their way down to Ho Li Chow, a sort-of Nyonya kopitiam that's powered by, essentially, Aunty Sue's Kitchen. Yeah, you already know how this is gon be. Dishes are painstakingly made from scratch, and all that good stuff - but most crucially, they all taste great.

Like the lam mee. Mellow, homely, and understated, it doesn't leave much of an impression at first sip, but you'll be hard pressed not to finish off the soup. It's a deliciously subtle broth that quietly urges you on and on.
.
And like the nasi lemak. I love the rice here! So light and airy, more reminiscent of briyani than the typical fluffy coconut rice, but these are cute little short-grains of rice. Lovely. The sambal and the pork curry are alright, but it's really worth getting just for the rice.
.
Or like the laksa lemak. So so so good. I don't even like laksa lemak usually, as I often find them to be a sort of confused in-between bastard child of curry and laksa (asam laksa!). But hey, this was great. So addictively creamy, rich, fragrant, and tangy. And you really taste that base of asam laksa underneath, with the lace of coconut milk giving it a body that doesn't overwhelm.
.
Not everything is amazing of course. The pai tee is alright (much better shredded fillings than Limapulo but the shells aren't quite as crispy and crunchy), the cham is eh, and the bihun Siam is not too bad (I don't usually like bihun. This one is not that offensive though. It doesn't have the sticky/lumpy texture I detest, and there are zesty citrus undertones throughout). In general though, this jumps directly into my Return-Visits list. Plus they have dinner dishes! Have to come back for those, eh. May the over-ordering never end.
