What Went Wrong?

What Went Wrong?

A summary of places within our reach serving food that we're not too impressed with and would be difficult to convince us to head back again.

Midweek spent with the cuz who lived in amk for a good amount of time but never ventured into Ave 10. It's about 6pm when we arrived, you can already see the kitchen busy and a queue forming. Waited for about 10mins before I got my order sent and the wait was about 30mins long? Pretty lucky considering some people waited for almost 2 hours for this. We ordered the best of both worlds combo which included the salted egg yolk and chilli crab sauce; came with chips(obviously) and a side of your choice for $12.90. The lemon butter grilled fish with tomyum fried rice was $8 if I'm not mistaken? Anyhoo, being a big fan of salted egg anything as I am, I'm quite disappointed by how lifeless the sauce looks and how little it was. Worse still, I couldn't really taste it; think more of zichar salted egg yolk sauce with sotong? And the chilli crab sauce had no kick. Don't really get the hype. But for a kopitiam, maybe there's an element of surprise? The tomyum fried rice was quite yummy. One thing though the fish was amazingly soft but it's a pity the batter is too oily for our liking. So we ate without it and without the sauce since it made no difference. I am only thankful we didn't wait too long for food of this standard. Don't think we'll head back for their fish and chicks? Maybe we'll try like their chicken dish if we're in the vicinity?

Went to Atrium at Orchard wanting to try Nana's green tea but they were upgrading so we settle for Hoshino instead. Reason for this title? I'm never heading back again at least not this outlet. The curry rice was sweet and tasted more like a dessert? Didn't like it not at all. The drinks and cabonara were okay. We also ordered a green tea souffle which was oh so(also) disappointing. The matcha flavor wasn't distinctive enough and the souffle was not light and fluffy. The dining experience was made more unpleasant when the waitress actually dumped the utensils holder on our table; rude much? My friend told me her previous experience at another outlet was so much better. Our bill came up to a total of $65.56 a price we could have gotten better food and service at another cafe.

Headed down to probably the most iconic stall at the coffeeshop. We ordered the signature fried porridge($6) and the You Mai Cai($10). I barely finished taking a photo of the roast meat from the same coffee shop and we were served. It wasnt piping hot like most claypot dishes. My dad and I had the same thought when we dug into our first bite: "Ahma" as I fondly remember her. She's made us our first fried porridge and this was nothing like hers. Wasn't served hot, wasn't fragrant and definitely didn't surround our palettes with unami from the ingredients that were used. The vegetables was stir fry with sliced garlic and onion. Not impressive especially with the price we were charged. Something different if you haven't tried it but it will be difficult to convince us to head there again.
