So glad that I went out of my way to get these babies because they were worth it! Available flavours include original (kosong), lemon curd, salted caramel, chocolate and peanut butter. My top pick is lemon curd followed by salted caramel.

Kinda wished I wasn’t so shy and ate one outside the shop but the flakey messes left by others were great testaments of how irresistible their bakes were.

Aside from cruffins, they have other bakes and I’m pleased to say that their almond croissants and pain au chocolat were also very good. The depth of flavour and lovely aroma of butter are commendable. 👍👍 .

I’ve finally caught up with @shriveena and Anne (is it too much to hope that AMJ has IG?) after so long. The food was okay but it didn’t hit the spot the way Mr Samurai used to. (It was a popular Japanese joint in Perth frequented by college and university students, and young working adults too!) I guess it’s true when they say nostalgia makes food taste better.

They have a self service set up where you take a tray and utensils and tell the staff by the counter which udon dish you want. With a flick of the wrist, slippery udon lands into your bowl. Your choice of broth (mine was beef curry)/ condiments will come after and the bowl of udon will be before your eyes in a matter of minutes. Mine took about 2 minutes. Then you make your way down the aisle towards the cashier, and on your way, you will pass by trays of fried tempura. Grab a plate and choose the tempura which tickles your fancy. I chose sweet potato, ebi (prawn), and a vegetable & squid fishcake. Choose your drinks by the cashier and after you pay, make your way down to the counter which offers free condiments such as fried tempura bits, spring onion, coriander, an array of sauces (I chose tempura sauce and sweet & sour sauce), salt etc. Last but not least, grab a table and enjoy your meal.

I know we should strive to be a graceful nation but the Singaporean way of ‘choping’ a table before buying your food will serve you well here because I saw a family of three foreign tourists who bought their food only to realize belatedly that they didn’t have any seats/table to enjoy their food. If you find yourself in such a scenario, you may want to ask the staff for help. I witnessed the cashier help the said family to secure a table by re-arranging customers so that the family can enjoy the meal. The premises are small so it’s suitable for individuals, pairs and maximum- quads. Tables are arranged at maximum capacity that the people at the next table can be literally next to you.

🍜 Ikkousha Hakata Ramen @ Chijmes has the perfect collagen rich tonkutsu and ramen noodles. If the char siu and ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg) can be improved upon, this would be my go-to ramen.
