Their standards are really quite consistent

Theirs is a very wet version. Super thick but not sticky, the flavour is quite good given how thick it is. It's almost a paste because the noodles are soft too.

Prawns were pretty snappy and clean tasting. The lard was decent, chili was smashing and unique

A good rendition. For the style of hokkien mee I expected more umami from a strong stock, then it would have been excellent

It's ABIT more cooked than normal but their eggs are special too, because it tastes a lot thicker than normal. Unfortunately the soy sauce sucks, too sweet

Sunday night: no queue?!?!. Half the tables were empty (although they were dirty)

Their Kaya is very special. Pale and very strongly tasting of coconut, esp when it tastes very natural. The butter was soft and the bread was crispy (if a little bit dry, but it's thin so the ratio is alright)

All components were good, making them deserving of their fame. Very good, although I can't say if it's worth a long queue

Mash was passable

The ribs were delicious. Tender, strong balanced BBQ sauce, with some bite

I'll be the first to admit this used to be the best prawn mee. However nowadays the chef is not around, and the standards have seriously fallen

Gone is the insanely prawny umami broth, what's left is a skeleton of what it used to be. It's still thick, there's this underlying sweetness and bitterness, but seriously lacking in prawn umami

Now if this review and the shady AF huge numbers of low level burpplers reviewing this place doesn't raise a flag, then I don't know what will.

Simply: this place is not worth visiting anymore

Something very fishy is going on here. There's way too many reviews from level 2-3 burpplers, and they have way too many reviews for somewhere this ulu.

The hokkien mee is pretty good. It's got quite a bit of wok hei despite being very wet, though needs a bit more ingredients for bite(there's only clams and prawns). Prawns were fresh enough but not umami nor sweet, not particularly good. The underlying base gravy is decent enough too, and it's not the same as their normal prawn stock.

Overall a pretty decent rendition

The beef rendang is actl alright. Spices were there and reasonbaly tender

Egg was avg, rice had a decent aroma of coconut milk and pandan with some body, but was not particularly noteworthy. Ikan bilis was flavourful but ABIT hard. Sambal was weak asf

If this is the standard at joo chiat, then I'm lack I didn't travel all the way there

It's a decent nasi lemak, but the weak sambal is really inexcusable

Was sorely lacking in ingredients tonight

Hopefully it's cos at night they don't have as much soup, not cos of inflation

After the price increased by 1 buck, to 9.5nett now

The flavours carry, because I don't think their chili(too much heat relative to aroma) and the noodles (too much bite, too solid) are top tier

Yet the minced meat and super smoky lard and anchovies make this still very enjoyable

Even at 8pm on a weekday, they're packed

I propose their timings change to 10am, they're called Dickson nasi lemak for god's sake who cares about their breakfast time

The sauce is sublime. It's quite sweet, very intense, and there's a strong fruitiness to it. Not sure how they achieved it, but it's miles ahead of your average tomato sauce
