Perhaps the saving grace was the Beef Rendang ($7.50) with fragrant gravy and relatively tender beef. Do note that you have to order Steamed Rice ($0.90) separately but feel free to take as much fragrant soup for your meal as you wish!
The Grilled Ayam Penyet (wanted to be a little healthier hehe) ($6.90) was a letdown because it was too burnt (hence, bitter) and dry. At first I couldnāt find the usual Tahu and Tempe complementing the typical Ayam Penyet dish but they were smotheredācamouflagedāwith the sauce. Alas, the Tempe was too burnt it tasted bitter.
The Tahu Telur ($6.50) is one of the cheapest in Singapore and the most indulgent too. I love the Tahu Telur ātallā drenched in the sweet, spicy peanut sauce and this dish was just perfect.
This is a must during raya and a staple in many Malay and Indonesian cuisines. The Sayur Lodeh ($5) was just nice creamy texture and excellent taste!
I had high hopes for their Ayam Belado Merah ($3.50 per pc) since it has always been perfect but it was very dry and bland during this visit
Begedil ($1 each) is always a safe side dish to order.
I enjoyed their Beef Rendang ($4) too āitās very tender but the gravy tasted a bit bland and lacked that rendang aftertaste.
What could go wrong with Tahu Telur? For me, Indonesian cuisine is not complete without tahu telur and Minang serves a mean portion for just $6! They will kindly cut it for you so itās easier to eat and I just love their peanut sauce that complements the crispy tahu telur well.
Note that they are very busy during Iftar time so online reservations/requests will likely be ignored but if you managed to somehow make a reservation, their service is impeccableā we were greeted by the two owners with so much warmth as they acceded to our requests and made sure we were attended to properly. Their staff was accommodating and helpful too despite being super busy! šš
Affordable hidang-style food in a mall setting. Enjoyed the Fish Lemak Cili Padi, Beef Rendang, and Tahu Telur, but the Chicken Belado was too dry and tasteless. Each serving costs $3.50, while the tahu telur costs $6.
Delicious Tahu Telor ($8.80+) drenched in sweet spicy sauce, tender and juicy Rendang Sapi ($9.80+), decent Ayam Goreng Kalasan ($8.80+), and perfect Avocado Juice ($6.80+). Sadly, the Sayur Asam soup was sold out.
