Peranakan Food

Everybody orders the buah keluak fried rice here and also dishes that will come with gravy. The Ayam Goreng ($24) provides a good counterbalance to all that sauciness. Galangal, shallots and Folklore’s blend of spices makes for one tasty fried chicken.
Tried this when I was here in late April and had to order it again when I returned with my family. The flavours in this dish, Sambal Juliana with Fried Brinjal ($16), were so bright and happy in my mouth. I can’t describe it any other way! Shallots, shrimp paste, chillies, fresh lime juice & Gula Melaka are all so well blended together to create the wonderful, fragrant gravy. A must order!
Any time I see a dish that uses four angled bean in it, I am drawn irresistibly to order it. Folklore’s 4 Angled Bean Salad ($12) does not disappoint. It is refreshing and a perfect counterpoint to the other dishes which are delicious but much more saucy and rich like the beef cheek rendang or the sambal based dishes. Highly recommend this!
