Taiyakie little stall is located right beside Starbucks near Asia Cafe food court. The stall is not designed as a place to hangout, so people would just have to take away their taiyakis.
The recommended fillings are read bean and ham with cheese and thus I picked the red bean. Unfortunately, the filling was not that good. It tasted quite bland and coarse. The pastry layers are actually okay if it was done right. The server didn't rest the taiyaki enough, leaving the pastry soggy and not crispy yet. Leave it to cool for 3-4 minutes and I think it'll be better.
Not too fond of dense, doughy taiyakis? Maybe the croissant version of the fish-shaped Japanese snack might float your boat instead! Now available from a humble little store in SS15 right opposite Asia Café, you can get sweet ones with more traditional fillings like Red Bean for RM6, as well as savoury flavours like Ham & Cheese (RM7) and Curry Chicken (RM6). Each taiyaki croissant is made to order, so be prepared to wait a couple of minutes – it’ll be worth it! They sprinkle sanding sugar before it goes into the pan resulting in crisp caramelised edges that are just a delight to nibble on!
While I usually go for sweet and traditional taiyaki fillings, this tasted so much better than expected. I really liked the contrast between the savoury salami plus gooey cheeses (cheddar and mozzarella) and slightly sweet puff pastry encasing it. They also sprinkle some sanding sugar before it goes into the pan resulting in crisp caramelised edges! 😍
Every piece is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait a little bit – I promise it will be worth it!
