It was really dry.. and filled with powdery hae bee hiam that seems to be fried with plainly only chili.

Nothing else :(

Nuuuu.

Nice burst of flowy smooth sugar

But for some reason it went beyond the bliss point of sweetness to a mild sour?

The dessicated coconut was also dry.
Not a great crumb to the limp dough.

It’s such a refreshment in the swelter.

Perfectly tangy, and in my quirky opinion, a cutely scented sweet pop of lychee flavour that perks your day.

But the scoop size is quite inconsistent huh. Haha

Chicken Confit for $12.90, where else can you find this dish for such a price?

And it tasted GOOD. Decently marinated in sage, thyme, 🌿 other herbs that steeped nicely through the succulent meat 😋

It was thoroughly enjoyable!!

With the buttery mushroom roux.

Surprise gem!

Not my ideal colour composition but neither were the tough char siu, lacklustre sauce seasoning and falling apart Wanton. Just check that wanton filling sitting outside of the wanton? 😂 should I have ordered meatball noodles instead?

I am grateful for the free flow pork lard + sour veggie soup BUT there was something unsatisfying bout the lard that leaves you wanting after biting into it. Maybe the lack of crunch or fragrance in that bite.

I think it’s also special the meat filling is seasoned with a soury vinegar splash. Somehow intriguing and reminiscent of an old school Wanton flavour.

But overall the sauce/seasoning of the noodles was mild and really nothing wow..

My favourite part of the dish: the perfectly achieved sweet-sour pickled green chili 😍

It was chock full of zesty aromas. A thick tea of strawberry, the kiwis seems to have taken a back seat in this painting.

Well, NOPE.

It was flat and oily a batter in a diluted yellow gravy .

Didn’t taste no salted egg no more

And at this price...

This is some tasty TEMPEH. The soybean cake was just so fragrant. You could truly taste the nutty beans coming at you. :)

The succulent tender smashed chicken was great but you had to thank the SPICY bitter dense limed chili that helped lift it.
Oh and all those delicious gobsmacking gingery crumbles😋 (9/10 for the crumble)

7.5/10 for the meal

Also, does anyone actually know what to do with the plain stacked boiled veggies? Haha.

I Call This A grease Net.

Cutting it through, it’s akin to spooning pure oil into my mouth 😭

Sure it’s crispy, but the MILD creamy earthy peanut gravy doesn’t do much to lift the flavour or cut the greasiness.

Sure there’s some hidden chili spice in the sauce but it still doesn’t cut it.

So.. this is my virgin try at Ri Ri Hong after only 1 other take at Mala in a nearby foodcourt. (That wasn’t too bad but it had bitter aftertastes and was more la than anything)

Your firsts does make a difference at defining all the others. But thankfully this time, I was met with a piquant bowl of MALA that wasn’t overly oily, but truly fragrant with garlic and other herbaceous additions to the dish.

I loved it. It was a beautiful balance of every spice and herb and MORE. The spices were lightly tossed, not overly crushed and extracted, hence the overall palatability

Beware the sneaky peppercorns that can get embedded in the veggies.

I guess too much of a good thing CAN BE a bad thing; the fried egg while thankfully not cloyingly oily, was still a bit much to stomach at this size portion. Haha there wasn’t even enough soup to go around coating the egg net 😅

Also, was surprised to find cast in the unassuming dish, some truly sweet fish meat

The substantial ULTIMATE breakfast.

What stood out:
• the Cajun bbq baked beans.
• smokey caramelisation of a pan grilled tomato
• maple glazed bacon steak? Who wouldn’t love it? (It would amp the luscious ness of this component if the glaze was more sticky 😉)
