I don’t like CCF. It’s plain to the point of boring to me.
But my my.. don’t underestimate this humble plate of Chee Cheong Fun.
It was insanely melty soft and silky. With a strong hoisin sauce to boost the dish. I mean STRONG to the point that I feel it’s bordering a little too salty.
But it’s altogether light and fluffy and the same time.
You just want one bite after another 😍

Could always do with a little more sesame fragrance/oil
I’m really particular about the roast of the beans. Burning it gives such a distinct bitter finish that gives such a screwed scrunch I can’t deny.
It was very mildly burnt coffee beans here and intensely strong a cup of caffeine.
But I thought it otherwise lacked depth/ aroma

+$1 for the bee hoon.
I feel like, I’m here just for that umami salty burst of ikan bilis. Are you too?
Not to mention, the insanely soft tofu/fish paste available in every one of the item. And the sweet soy bean x anchovy broth that I couldn’t stop drinking 😋 YUM YUM.
Must have that chicken rice garlic lime chili to perk your tastebuds! It’s slightly on the sweet side and a good respite for your tastebuds from all that umami savoury 😋😋

I just wanted to capture the amount of hard work in the hot kitchen here at Chinatown Complex Hawker Centre’s renowned dumpling shop.
Singapore’s cheapest dumplings
Truly made from scratch
😍 I think this is the underrated star of the egg bar
I mean. Yes it’s all meat, and some hot melty cheese.
It was a very mild tasting blend of cheese and not quite so oozy as shown on videos/pictures. So I conclude the lack of consistency in these cheese stuffed patties

And you know what, after a while, you really get sick of the richness of the meat, the substantiality of the sticky Jap rice, and this slick oily cheese. YUP. Go without it :)
😋 chose ponzu Yuzu with grated radish for mine. And am pleasantly glad it’s not overly salty like the original glacé but truly helped lift my experience of the dish :)
It could get jelak after a while. I mean. It’s a full juicy (sweet-ish) meat patty.
It doesnt look appetising but the scrambled eggs were so Gordon Ramsay-liquid-buttery 👍🏻👍🏻
And I love custom making my salad bowl, with a ton of kelp, some garlic Yuzu and those scrumptious tempura crisps 😋

Classic Japanese egg rolls. They were doused in some sweet soy so I can’t exactly taste if it was expertly moist by its own. Yet I think the layers can tell of the chef’s skills
But it was sure delightful to attack once the staff doles then out 😂😂 all the diners show up for a meet and greet.
Wet and juicy.
The chives one didn’t quite leave an impression. I just remembered the original retained more of the sauce than the chive one was able to.
Hot and dense. Have it~

We added $4 to have this in our set meal instead and am moderately glad we did :)
It was still a rich decadent pot of pistachio pudding as remembered.
Although those 4 whole sugared pistachios on top were an unfamiliar sight. And most definitely LAU HONG (or softened/lost its crisp to the air as one would call it)
:/

Saveur, are you doing okay? The food tells a lot. :( (#longtimefamilyhaunt)
Yet as you can see, there is severe inconsistency:( with mine blackened)
The skin was neither crispy nor the meat nicely juicy.
I remember when Saveur first started, I was one of those who queued for a taste of this. It was delicately seasoned, cooked to a fork tender moist leg of duck Confit.
Sure, the sauce has since been refined to leaps and bounds comparably, but the star of this dish is really the duck. Why should we fall in love with a side of mushrooms instead?

Duck confit sets for $22 is amazing value for money.
The earthy goodness in those truffle butter mushroom chunks ERMYGOSH
