๐ŸฅงPulut Hitam Taro Tart
๐Ÿ“Lilac Oak (@lilac.oak)
๐Ÿ“Œ71 Oxley Rise
๐Ÿ’ฐ $4

Everyday I gain a deeper appreciation of vegan food. This tart from @lilac.oak is vegan and consists of a crumbly crust that reminds me of an oat cookie, and the fillings are a really natural and earthy tasting taro paste and sticky, slightly sweet pulut hitam.

Quite a bit of taro out there tastes super processed and overly sweetened, but Lilac Oak offers the real deal. Really satisfying and not jelak, definitely worth getting!

๐Ÿฅง Matcha Mont Blanc

I've never tried mont blanc before, so this was my first time experiencing it. In theory, this sounds like a really exciting dessert, with the mont blanc being matcha flavoured and being encased within a tart, but I found that the flavours weren't as impressive as its concept.

The tart base wasnt super fragrant and was a bit thick, and the matcha taste was a bit too faint for my liking. As for the mont blanc, I couldnt really taste the chestnut elements either.

Wish the elements were stronger, however it is really pretty!

Ive seen taro mochi but I've never seen sweet potato being used as a mochi filling before :O this was pretty good, the mochi skin was soft, stretchy and chewy, and the amount of sweet potato cream was hella generous. It had that earthy taste that sweet potato has, which was interesting. Overall I still prefer other flavours for mochi but this was cool to try!

๐Ÿœ Green King Ramen

๐Ÿ’ฐ $17.90++

I really wanted to get the red spicy ramen bowl because I love torturing myself with spice but unfortunately, I was dealing with a lot of pghlem and snot that day (yum yum) so in my best interest, I got the next most interesting item, the Green King Ramen.

This broth is made with basil and even comes with parmesan cheese and bacon, a truly unique fusion of flavours. The soup broth was rich and โ€œfattyโ€ with a liberal amount of oil and a nice umami flavour. The noodles were bouncy and chewy (you can customise the doneness of the noodles, btw). The chashu pieces left something to be desired as they were kinda dry and a little on the bland side.

The broth was definitely the outstanding part of this dish. However itโ€™s really pricey (about $21 after taxes) and there are cheaper ramen spots with better chashu imo.

Was a little worried about this baguette as I was scared that it would taste overly artificial. While the blueberry element definitely isnt 100% natural, it wasnt cloying or too hard to swallow, and generally I liked it for the price!

Couldnt taste the XO element much but its very slightly more flavourful than the original SG one. However it doesnt taste that much different.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Chinese Mala Fried Rice
The mala element wasnโ€™t super strong but I could still taste the occasional mala peppercorn and chilli. Generally preferred this over the SG version as it had more flavour.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Singapore Fried Rice
A pretty typical fried rice dish, it tastes like those zi char fried rice and not really the dtf style ones. Generally not bad, its pretty oily but has enough flavour.

First scone I tried from @humblebakery.sg and it was great! Really buttery and the taro filling was natural and earthy, not too sweet. The mochi was really stretchy and chewy too.

The price is a little on the higher end but its really unique, dont know where else Iโ€™d be able to find mochi scones.

Never had rosรฉ pasta before and tbh I found that the sauce just tasted like diluted bolognese sauce without the meat chunks. Pretty meh, would get the other dishes over this.

Took a bite of my friendโ€™s Aglio Olio, its a pretty standard plate of aglio olio with garlic and herbs. Nothing super outstanding, just a really solid plate of spaghetti.
