We both got the mini as we werenât feeling very hungry, and while I was sufficiently filled, I got hungry more quickly before the next meal, so maybe just get the normal sized ones đ The rice to fish ratio was okay tho! There was enough rice for the amount of fish.
The cubed sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail(?), scallop) was reasonably fresh and chunky, devoid of any fishy taste. Tamago was decent, less sweet than usual. The sweet sauce drizzled on the rice was alright, and while good quality Japanese short grain rice, I do wish it came a bit stickier.
Each bowl comes w some raw lettuce w cherry tomatoes, plus miso soup that had dried scallop in it!
Overall thought that this was a nice clean meal, though I felt like it was missing a little oomph. Will be back to give them another try - eyeing the aburi chirashi don next!
Chicken karaage was juicy and moist and crisp - the batter is v thin and light so you're not getting a lot of flour. Apparently this Johnnyâs Karaage won the gold meal for 11 consecutive years in the Japan karaage Grand Prix! I donât usually eat much deep fried foods but this was definitely a good karaage.
This was very good - saba was grilled wonderfully! enjoyed the thin crisp skin and juicy tender flesh that was piping hot.
The grilled squid was not bad too, especially the charred parts (the tentacles). It wasnât rubbery / tough. But the star of the meal was still the saba. The rice was of good quality too; sticky & plump & moist.
This set comes with 2 miso soups and 2 bowls of rice. Great for a party of 3! If you go on dates with the number â3â or â8â you can get to enjoy discounted prices!! Thatâs bc 3 and 8 sound like saba hahaha how cute is that đ
This was quite yummy! The liushabao is baked, so it has that sweet, slightly crisp crust (like the ones from timhowan & canton paradise). The liusha filling is molten and threatens to spill out with each bite, and the consistency & flavour was quite nice to me - itâs sweet and buttery and thick and slightly grainy (I am partial to both grainy / smooth liushas). Itâs a bit big, and a tad sweet bc of the top sugar crust, but itâs good and I would order this again!
Crust was good! It was pillowy soft and chewy, like really pillowy. The downside is that itâs not crunchy, but I think I can look past that. Thereâs a nice charred flavour which I really enjoyed. The toppings were tasty too. I liked the tomato sauce base, it was well-balanced w naturally sweet and rich tangy tomato flavours. The mozzarella cheese was fresh and elastic, and the eggplants added another depth of flavour and juiciness. The truffle oil wasnât overpowering. Didnât rly appreciate the gorgonzola - I usually am quite partial to blue cheeses but this one imparted a somewhat chemical taste to the pizza. We dipped the crusts into the bottarga dip from our starter and it was delish!
Pappardelle was done slightly softer than al dente but still had a nice bite to it. The wagyu beef ragĂš was not what I expected, thought itâll be more tomato ish. It has a beefy smell but it wasnât off putting, quite soft but it would have been nicer if it wasnât ground beef. They add mascarpone cheese & parmesan cheese which gave a nice blend of flavours! Thought it was a nice pasta dish but itâs not my fav, I still prefer the classic tomato based ragu with shredded meat!
This was good! The pretzel felt like a bagel, crumb was quite dense but soft, and it had the nice crunchy exteriors especially at the thinner parts. A good vehicle to pick up the bottarga whip, which was vv nice!! It felt like the shy cousin of taramasalata - briny and savoury, not as salty and loud as taramasalata. In the middle there was good quality olive oil, and I enjoyed this dip a lot đđź
Tried the mochi waffles previously and really enjoyed it - they put rice flour (I think) in their batter so it gives the waffle this nice stretchy chew, with a crisp exterior. However, it wasnât particularly impressive this time as the exterior was crisp only at the very edges. But the chewiness was still enjoyable. You get to choose the froyo flavour, we chose peach mango, my fav sogurt flavour hands down! Itâs not tooo artificial tasting, with a nice sour yogurt flavour that is v refreshing.
The toppings were supposed to be sesame brittle and sesame puff sticks w lotus crumble and speculoos drizzle, but we got fresh strawbs & bananas (yay!) and Oreo crumble (nay) instead - while I like the fresh fruit, it was a little disappointing that we didnât get to try the sesame toppings + they didnât even let us know that they will be replacing the toppings.
The brownies were vvv rich, too rich and sweet for us :/ For the brownie itself (disregarding the filling), there was this underlying cocoa taste that I usually associate with cheap brownies LOL idk whether Iâm nitpicking or what but thatâs what I felt. The hojicha could have been more bitter, we preferred the salted dark choc one which had a nice and bittersweet dark choc filling, with the saltiness adding a nice touch.
Bundt is also rich but somehow it doesnât feel as cloying. I prefer bundtâs brownies (certain flavours) to what I tried from whiskdom!
I LOVE their ramen! Didnât rly enjoy ramen until I had the ramen from Hakata Ikkousha!! Also had it in Melbourne and gotta say, the standards are consistently good đđź
Their ramen is thinner than usual and has a really nice bite to it, itâs the main draw for me. Get the ânormalâ for noodle texture, âhardâ tasted a bit floury and not as great. The soup is very rich and creamy, full of collagen but not salty/msg-laden. I got the tonkotsu standard, but I would love to try the light version to see how it compares.
Ingredients were pretty good too - chashu was lean and thin but very tender and easy to eat, thereâs also some black fungus for the crunch. I stole half an ajitama (+$2) from my bf and it was very flavourful with that jammy yolk. They also give each person a hardboiled egg, but the yolk is fully cooked so it can get a bit chalky.
TLDR: one of the best ramen spots in SG. Worth the queue đđź
I liked this!! Was roasty enough and the gelato was smooth + it didnât melt quickly. I tried matchayaâs hojicha before (in a pint, not sure if that affects) and it was very grainy so this was much better. Was satisfied! The cone was also not bad, it was crunchy like a wafer and it held its shape despite being so thin, and didnât threaten to disintegrate/crumble as the gelato didnât leak through it too quickly. Tbh I prefer thicker cones, but I didnât mind this. My bf liked the cone a lot!
This was decently bitter; matcha enough but not overly green tasting. But I didnât like how icy it was, as it made it hard to drink - we had to wait for the ice to melt. Will probably go for non-ice-blended options next time!
