Eggplant, tofu, king oyster mushrooms, crispy enoki, nori, togarashi, japanese rice
I only had a nibble of this but flavours were quite nice, ingredients were tasty. There’s soft, there’s crisp, I liked the different textures. However this small bowl is rather overpriced. I get it, cafe prices are typically like that. But at other cafes/restaurants the portions are better.
Chicken & gruyere veloute, oyster mushrooms, herbed potatoes, spinach, capers, puff-lets
I found it very average, it wasn’t bad but I found the dish quite disjointed - just felt like different ingredients that happen to be in the same bowl of veloute. Chicken was soft, mushrooms tasty. Spinach was average and I’m not a fan of veloute I guess, it’s too thin to be gravy and also isn’t soup/broth. Pufflets were airy and not crisp. I saw a nearby table being cleared and all 3 pufflets were left uneaten. Overall would not reco.
Cheddar & chive scramble, aioli, back bacon, caramelised onions, focaccia, tater tots
Not bad, eggs were at a nice done-ness, soft and not overcooked, and I liked the sweet caramelised onions. Focaccia was soft, tater tots were crisp.
However at other places I could get similar sandwiches that are tastier with a lower price point.
I quite liked Columbus before their menu revamp, but now the new menu options aren’t as attractive and most are rather overpriced, in my opinion. A pity! Lunar is already gone so the only place with the kinda ‘original’ menu is Atlas. Please don’t change the menu at Atlas, this is a sincere plea 🥲
I don’t usually go for strawberry ice cream but I tried this flavour once and I enjoyed it so it’s become one of my go-to flavours when I visit creamier.
Tho it’s cream based and not a sorbet, it’s still refreshing and doesn’t taste too artificial (I hope/think they use only real strawberries and not jam/flavouring), and has some tiny crumble bits that make it taste a bit like strawberry cheesecake ice cream!
The draw of this nasi lemak has got to be the rice! It’s very fragrant and flavourful with the coconut and pandan aroma infused. The chicken is not as juicy as I like, but I like the flavour of the crunchy skin / batter. The meat is not too dry so it’s still ok. Otah was very soft and p legit, a little like those you get in a peranakan restaurant. It’s not the fishcake type. Was sad that the begedil wasn’t crisp. It tasted quite meh. Chilli not super spicy, was on the sweeter side.
Egg was freshly fried so it was still piping hot, yolks were pretty cooked as expected. Ikan bilis and peanuts were crunchy!
It’s not bad, I liked it! If only their chicken was juicier.
Gulurou was meaty but it had a v sweet tomato sauce, not a fan. Brown rice was not mushy, soft yet chewy.
Egg was tasty, spinach was normal. Overall it’s alright, idm eating this again but defo not the gulurou. An average caifan for me, but it somehow does see some long queues during lunch hour.
Fragrant and sweet, with crunchy edges and big variety of filling. Found them not as spongy as SL II / choc and spice / bake of. Quite different from usual muffins - it has wokhei / a charred taste, it’s the same taste when you eat a San lou horfun full of wokhei at a zichar restaurant (yes oddly specific I know). I was initially confused but eventually I decided I liked it.
When I had it the next day it tasted more spongy and cakey. Ingredients are very generous, for every flavour.
Choc was quite crisp, and had a lot more charred flavour. There's choc on top + inside; was sweet. It’s nice but a bit too sweet.
Candied orange was nice and bitter, more refreshing than the rest. Peanut choc was nutty and crunchy. Almond apple was good - juicy tender apple, almonds paired well. Cranberry had a distinct flavour.
Oreo is p sweet. Raisin one had golden raisin, big and juicy but I prefer red raisins, this was q sweet, I don’t prefer these 2 flavours.
Overall thought they veered slightly on the sweet side. I generally liked them, and would queue for them again.
Second time trying their banh mi! Tried a different flavour. Beef slices were v tender with a savoury sweet sauce, was rather tasty along with the soft stewy onions. However there was a bit too much sauce, which drips out so it p messy to eat. As usual, baguette was crisp outside but not hard and not over-toasted. Satisfying and easy to eat. Happy with the crunchy pickled veg to cut through and provide a refreshing taste.
This was rather tasty! Noodles are soft and plain, a good base for the ingredients. The zaier is crisp, and so is the taukee. The mock charsiew is surprisingly nice, it has a sweet marinade and didn’t taste like the typical mock meats. Tofu and cabbage were tasty too!
I quite like this Ru Yi franchise. The food at all 3 outlets I’ve tried - tiong bahru, margaret drive and this were satisfying. But I find that this BB outlet is a bit stingy with the ingredients. The auntie carefully plates each portion, so maybe that’s why it feels so? But anyway, if you want more ingredients then probably get the bigger portion.
Yet another place on my to-go list that is closing, so I had to quickly go try. Didn’t expect much given the mixed reviews but I thought it was not bad, enjoyed my lunch.
The chicken is lean yet soft, I can’t say it’s v tender but it’s not dry. I’ve had smoother chicken though. The skin of the chicken was v tasty, that’s where the marinade went.
Rice is p fragrant, could smell the aromatics like ginger/garlic infused into it. Texture was fine, it has a bite to it and rice grains were separated, yet not dry.
The sauce is viscous and sweet like honey ish and not salty?? Not what I expected soya sauce chicken’s sauce to taste like. Chilli is sour and q refreshing, with a mild spiciness. Soup is not v nice.
Overall I thought it was not bad and I would recommend you to try before it closes permanently! Portion was also quite reasonable for the price, place was well-ventilated. A shoutout to the servers who were v efficient and managed the queue well.
The broth was a bit spicy, and while it was quite seafoody I think we preferred if there was more of that natural sweetness. The prawn balls (steamed and fried) were bouncy and tasted like the prawn paste you get at hotpot restaurants. The prawns were pretty large and fresh. Would rather go for the noodles with wanton & meatballs, it’s more satisfying! And also much cheaper.
So yummy! What a pity that they’ve closed on 27 Aug. There’s options for gong zai mian, youmian, and thick noodles. I chose youmian! It was done al dente so it had a nice bite, texture was good. Tossed in a scallion (& garlic?) oil + dark sauce mix, it was v fragrant and delish. There’s 2 stalks of blanched crunchy kailan too.
The handmade wanton and handmade pork balls were soooo soft and juicy? Loved the chives flavour in the wanton. Probably the softest wantons & meatballs
I've ever had. There isn’t any filler I believe, just meat. I do appreciate a bit of a bite since usually wantons/meatballs aren’t as soft, but this I enjoyed a lot too!
Definitely would reco and I hope they will appear in sg again~
