Patiently waited for homebaker @twoambakes’ Matcha box and finally snagged one, feat. Matcha Yuzu Tart, Nikoneko Matcha Financier & Matcha Tiramisu!

I absolutely loved her tart. It had a crisp shell filled with an intensely bittersweet matcha ganache, complemented by a bright yuzu paste - in just the right amount that didn’t overpower. The Tiramisu on the other hand, had a lot stronger coffee notes than matcha. Can’t wait to try the matcha terrines!

Haven’t had Sunday Folks in such a long time! Ordered the Earl Grey Lavender Ice Cream & Dark Chocolate Ferraro, both on single waffles to share. I preferred the former flavour thought it was a tiny icier. Note that there’s a minimum of 1 item per pax, inclusive of beverages.

Have been wanting to try their drinks for a while now, and finally got to do so with a cup of iced matcha latte. Quite enjoyed it as a whole, though it was a huge pity that the matcha was a tad clumpy. I would definitely request for the less / no sugar option in future too! Price point is great at $5.50.

Home-baker Spoon After Spoon’s gorgeous Cherry Pistachio Tart definitely delivered both in terms of visual and in taste!

This seasonal bake features a decadent pistachio cremeux lining the tart base, topped with cherry confiture and carefully hand-pitted sweet cherries. I absolutely loved the well-balanced rich nuttiness of the pistachio and sweetness of the cherries. The tart base also had a thoughtful tinge of saltiness which complemented perfectly. Here at Teppei Syokudo’s Galaxis outlet, you’ll find a whole new revamped menu featuring 6 different sets that were all put together with improved recipes and better ingredients - from the sauce, to sashimi, udon and even down to the rice.

We had their Teppei Premium Set, which comes with the don and sides of chawanmushi, salad and a hot bowl of smooth qq udon (this I really liked)! The don’s new dressing has a distinct roasty sesame flavour. Fret not if you’re a fan of their original marinate like me, as they will still offer it as an option for diners.

Another solid meal option at one of my favourite food centres around, Holland Drive!

Yap Kee is owned by my friend’s family, and they serve up Malaysian-style wanton mee. The springy egg noodles are done very qq and free from any alkaline taste. The well-marinated homemade dumplings were my FAV - generously meaty and fresh with a crunch from water chestnuts. Would be a great addition to steamboats!

Had Ri Ri Cha’s Nian Gao Waffles a while back and I still remember how pleasantly surprised I was by it! I like waffles with more of a bite, and they nailed the texture on theirs: crisp on the outside especially on its edges, and fluffy inside without being too airy. The soft and slightly chewy nian gao layer in the middle was of just the right ratio too!

The ice cream flavour we chose was a no for us though. The Roselle Smoked Plum had a grainy texture and the balance of sweetness and sourness really didn’t work for us. Will be back for the waffle and other ice cream flavours instead!

I love Banh Mi Saigon that’s in AMK, and was very excited to see their sister brand, Miss Saigon open in Orchard Plaza, just a walking distance from my office yay!

The tiny little shop is tucked on the 2nd floor - turn left after you get off the escalator or just follow the aroma hahaha (that’s really what my friend and I did btw 😂). For such a small space, they serve up their usual full menu of banh mi, alongside other mains of rice noodles and rice, as well as various sides.

I grabbed number 6, the Grilled BBQ Pork Banh Mi ($8.90) and had Vietnamese Spring Rolls to share. Their Banh Mi may seem a bit pricey, but they are also very generous in filling it up. The chunky pork was smokey and tender with a slight heat from the chopped scallions, while the fresh baguette was light and sufficiently crisp. Please dig in as quickly as you can for the best crunch. Skip the Spring Rolls as the skin was too tough.

The overall quality is pretty on par with AMK’s, though I think the original spot still does them the best in the balance of flavours, crunch of baguettes and speed of serving 🥹 Butttt I’m not complaining for this convenience and another good lunch option in town! Would recommend you to come by off peak meal hours.

While we appreciated the comforting collagen broth, I thought the floury taste of the mee sua overpowered more than I would like. Would be nice for the broth to come in a slight bigger portion and pack a bit more of a distinct oomph to balance it out.

Though the slices of grilled sourdough were more burnt than I would have liked, I enjoyed the crisp crust and its sweet tang. The pistachio butter was a great addition - smooth, fragrant and sufficiently roasty.
