From Face Ban Mian. $5.30, I like that the soup is actually relatively light and clear.

New lunch spot for us! The roast meat here is pretty good 👍

An elderly couple runs this stall and even though it's like after 7pm they still keep the stall open selling other food such as fish porridge and seafood soup. This bowl of noodles reminds me of those very traditional kind of fish ball noodles where the chili is a little spicy, a little bit of mushrooms, fishballs, fish cakes, fish dumplings, meatballs, minced meat, vege. It was real good for me and I hope more people can give it a try. It's only $3, compared to the $5 per bowl at a nearby famous Bak chor mee place, I think this is more worth my buck. :)

Kept hearing that it's really vinegar-y, but it was actually quite okay! Really enjoyed it, worth the 1 hour queue. Went at 12pm, queue looked shorter at 1:30pm when we left. $5 was a bit too little, get the $6 onwards unless you're not very hungry.

YOU GUYS NEED TO TRY THIS FISH & CHIPS. They did magic to the batter and it turned out to be *inserts an appropriate vocabulary here* lol lol. 😂 I'm not sure what is an accurate word to describe it but it very much reminds me of eating goreng pisang but with fish inside. SO UNIQUE AND SO NICE. 😍

It all started out from a simple curiosity over the super long queue during lunch time. This stall has ever since been the first I'd think of when someone mentions Ghim Moh Market. They have the same dishes every day, except for the types of fish, which depend on their availability in the market. The dishes are clean and fresh with no frills, and the highlights would be their steam fish and pig skin. Value for money with consistently great quality, this shop really deserves a special spot in many patrons of Ghim Moh Market.

Found this newly opened Spanish place through Burpple (thanks Xing Wei and Keropok Man!).

Probably because they are still only soft-launched, the food took awhile to come but you could see the chefs trying their best - they were working so fast non-stop! I have to say though, it was worth the wait. The seafood paella at $9 was good for one and well worth it.

Will definitely be back again! 😋

Moving out of Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre, Mi Casa has found a new home situated just a stone's throw away at Jalan Jurong Kechil serving a wider range of Spanish fare at wallet-friendly prices. The menu here consists of Ciabatta, Salads, Soups/Stews, Seafood, Meat and Pasta/Paella dishes. At $6.50, you get a decently portioned paella. Can't comment on how authentic this was for I rarely have Paella, but you get lightly fragrant rice that absorbed the flavours of the stock it was cooked in while coming with five tender, handmade meatballs covered in tomato-based sauce that gives it a tangy flavour. A salad which is dressed with a zingy dressing comes on the side. Pretty sure there are many more authentic and better executed Spanish fare around, but this does add an interesting option around Upper Bukit Timah that is also pretty affordable as well!

Mi Casa Kitchen & Bar is situated at 102C Jalan Jurong Kechil, Singapore 598602.

Former head chef of Crystal Jade and man behind CJ's wanton mee, Master Tang previously had a stall in Chinatown but is now here in Sixth Avenue! Prices are super affordable - $3.50 Wanton Noodle, $3.50 Wanton Soup, $5 Pork Knuckle Noodle and $6 Beef Tendon Stewed Beef Brisket Noodle, etc. My Wanton Noodle had al-dente springy egg noodles, fresh juicy wantons and not forgetting the CJ lookalike plus tastealike chili. Though I would have liked a more flavorful soup, it was still a satisfying plate of noodles so similar to CJ's! At this price? I'm so coming back!

📍 Coffeeshop next to 1855 The Bottle Shop, 8 Sixth Avenue
🕐 8am to 4pm Daily (Closed on Thursdays)

From the Saigon Food Sreet stall at the abovementioned food centre. A dish rarely found in Vietnamese eateries in Singapore (we are all too into Pho, Banh Mi and rice with grilled meats), it's indeed quite surprising to find this stall that sells quite a large variety of Vietnamese fare unfamiliar to the local palate (Viet Porridge with Bird Nest, Viet Pancakes, Viet Rice Roll with Pork etc.). This comes with just the pancake at $5.00; the vegetables on the sides are optional as an add on for $0.50. The stall owner told me to wrap the pancakes and cucumbers with the vegetables, and top then with the mint leaves and dip them into the spicy fish sauce to enjoy. Not sure if they have used turmeric for the egg pancake, but imagine a crusty, crisp egg pancake filled with sliced pork that might be seem bland at first, plump and fresh prawn and loads of crunchy bean sprouts soaking in the umami goodness of the fish sauce topped with a refreshing minty flavour. Wonder if there is anywhere else I could go to try this rarely found Vietnamese dish in Singapore ... ...
