Awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand this year, High Street Tai Wah Pork Noodle is not to be confused with Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle. However, they are still somewhat related as Tai Wah Pork Noodle is currently ran by the nephew of the owner of Tai Hwa Pork Noodle.

To get to their bowl of Bak Chor Mee (Minced Pork Noodle), you have to get past a pretty long queue, with some of them ordering takeaways of more than five bowls so you could be waiting much longer than the queue indicates.

The best part of this bowl of noodle in my opinion was not the noodle but the bowl of soup. It was pretty flavourful and the addition of fried sole fish gave it extra depth. The soup comprised of many wontons and pork meatballs. I really enjoyed the wontons as they were packed full with pork and the skin was very smooth.

The noodle on the other hand tasted a little tough but mixing it thoroughly with the sauce made it a little better. The lean meat and pig’s liver on the noodle were clean and fresh.

The noodles come at three different prices: $6, $8, $10. Thus, the minimum amount spent here is higher than a average $3.50 bowl you can find at most hawker centres. I ordered the $10 bowl as I wanted the ultimate experience and also because I was hungry!

Cute, novel and instagrammable bubble tea from the newly opened TaiGai 台盖 at Serangoon, Nex # B2-34. The shop is opposite Breadtalk and is technically very hard to miss due to its unique turquoise interior that is very contrasting from the shops around it.

TaiGai is the original creator of the fruit-infused milk crown, which can also be referred to as Milky Kiss. They come in various fruit flavours and all of them looked really good on the menu. However, our eyes were fixated on the Beary Beary Creative Mix instead.

As an opening exclusive, the Beary Co Co 可可熊牛奶 and Beary Creative 混混熊奶茶 are on a Beary Limited time offer. Tea fans can go for the Beary Creative milk tea and those that prefer non-tea flavours can go for the Bear Co Co. We preferred the Beary Co Co as it was chocolatey but not overly sweet and the pearls were super chewy. The Beary Creative milk tea was slightly too diluted but we liked the golden tapioca pearls so the drink was still acceptable.

Also, you can create your own “Dancing Bear” boomerang videos! These drinks are served in cups with an ultra cute Bear lid. Place your cup against a wall, shine light on it and a bear shadow will form on the wall. Move the light source left and right or in any way that you like and you should see a bear dancing to your rhythm!

Hence, I was quite surprised when I discovered that there is actually a branch operating at Orchard road.
The restaurant is not big but sits quite a lot of people so it felt a little squeezy. Well, we were still grateful that the staff did not ask us to 搭枱, which in Cantonese means to share table, a common sight in Hong Kong cafeteria.
As usual, we ordered a small variety to try.
The Drunken Chicken in ShaoXing Wine 绍兴醉鸡 is a cold side dish that has a subtle alcohol fragrance. The chicken was cool and refreshing and acted as a nice start to the meal.
The Sliced Threadfin Congee 生滚午鱼片粥 was very smooth and the sliced threadfin in it was light and soft. However, I still prefer the congee that I had at Mui Kee in Hong Kong as it tasted thicker and more gooey. Of course, we had the congee with Crispy Dough Fritters 酥脆炸油条 which was crispy like its name indicated and soaked up the congee perfectly.
The Beef Brisket Dry Noodle 牛腩干面 was not outshined by the congee. The beef brisket was extremely tender and melted in the mouth instantaneously. The noodle was springy too. The only lacking part was that the soup that came with the noodle was just average.
Some people say that congee is food consumed only when we feel unwell. I do not agree. What do you think?

In Singapore, there are 7 Pepper Lunch restaurants and 32 Pepper Lunch Express which can be found at the food courts in shopping malls.
We visited the branch at JEM, Jurong East. The place was nice and cozy and quite packed during dinner time. We ordered a Teriyaki Chicken with Egg, a Chicken Curry Cheesy Risotto and a bowl of Mashed Potato.
The Mashed Potato was smooth and the gravy on top was neither too salty nor oily. However, we felt that it was not as good as the one at the Jurong Point Branch.
The Teriyaki Chicken with Egg is the safe option as we had tried it several times. Mixing it with an adequate amount of Honey Brown Sauce and Garlic Soy Sauce and we got a hot plate of pure goodness!

The Chicken Curry Cheesy Risotto was fantastic as well and the highlight was probably watching the cheese melt on the rice and seeing how high it could stretch when we pulled it.

This slogan was heard very often for a period of time on television when Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee made its appearance in Singapore several years ago.
This restaurant serves Kolo Mee which is a type of Sarawak dry noodles that is popular among the locals of Sarawak and is usually served plain or with red char siew sauce. I ordered a Jia Xiang Mee 家香面 and a Jia Xiang Fried Chicken Kolo Mee 家香鸡面.
The first bowl of noodles had char siew, minced pork and some vegetables and paired with a bowl of soup with wonton and prawns in it. If you find the noodles to be too plain, you can add the chili sauce provided by the restaurant. The highlight of this dish was probably the noodle itself as it was cooked to a nice springy consistency. Ingredients wise was good but nothing special.
The second bowl of noodles was just as tasty and the chicken was surprisingly tender as I was not expecting it to be. The chili sauce was not spicy but very salty so I suggest adding the sauce in moderate amounts.
Overall, nice flavours but be warned that you will be very thirsty after the meal. Stock up on water!

Liang Sandwich Bar is not really a sandwich bar as the store does not sell the typical sandwich but rather it sells Chinese Scallion Pancake 手抓饼.

I ordered the Chicken Bolognese Sandwich 意式肉酱抓饼 and it did not disappoint. The pancake was very crispy and flaky and it reminded me instantly of a roti prata. The egg elevated the fragrance of the pancake and made a nice combination with the chicken and bolognese sauce. The pancake would be even better if there was just a bit more chicken in it to increase the consistency of every bite.

This pancake serves as a perfect afternoon snack if you are tired from all the walking and shopping at Vivo City. Have you tried it? What do you think?

As good as the char siew was, I was never really a big fan of the the char siew rice as I felt the rice was subpar and the auntie who takes orders is kind of rude.
On the other hand, the second stall that specializes in noodles is phenomenal. The noodles is cooked to perfection. It is so springy and chewy that my mum likes to call it QQ的面. The char siew as usual is of high quality and the wonton is pretty decent too. Add a sunny side up on top and you get your mouth-watering dinner!
Other recommended dishes are the Chicken Cutlet with Egg and Dumpling Soup. Spinach tastes fresh and does not have the grassy smell that I dislike amongst leafy vegetables. Other ingredients include minced pork, wolfberry, mushroom, century egg and salted egg. Not a bad dinner option on a cold breezy night.
Wonder if I would be strong like Popeye the sailor man after finishing it. 😄
