Wanted to try the famous Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee but the queue was too long, so I settled instead for the western stall beside it. Chose fries and coleslaw to accompany the cheese stuffed pork loin. The meat was tender, flavourful and when mixed with the oozing cheese it is a winning combination. The coleslaw was crunchy and fresh, while the fries were crispy. Oh and it came with a complimentary piece of garlic bread :) I'll be back again to try my luck with the bak chor mee, if not I have a good alternative.
Fancy a good Burger? Enter the Truffle Mushroom from Wildfire (SGD23): 120gm of juicy beef patty, topped with truffle mushrooms for the extra fragrance, gruyere cheese, sauteed onions, pickles and rocket salad in between soft and fluffy brioche buns. Perfect with a pint of beer :)
One of the better tandoori chicken that I have tasted so far. The meat was tender and succulent, and the lime adds an additional zing. RM7.00 for this is quite reasonable in my humble opinion :)
It's been awhile since I posted something so let me start again with something mouthwatering...this has been one of the best prawn noodles that I have tasted so far in Singapore. For $5, you get 4 large prawns, generous slices of pork and fish paste and the soup is heavenly! The rich taste of the broth hits you from the first mouthful right to the last. It is a hidden find if you are working near Jurong Port.
Quest for the best bak chor mee continues at Ah Hoe. They have a few branches; the one I tried was at Clementi Ave 2. The noodles were springy and qq, with a whole lot of mushrooms, minced & sliced meat, fish cake and meat balls to accompany the dish. I like my food spicy, hence the cili padi sprinkled on top.
Many different level of textures in this dish from the crunchy beans to the buttery unagi and soft japanese rice. Only wish there was more! This is one of the must order dishes at Sumiya.
The Ong siblings decided to cook dinner tonight with the main dish being baked salmon. Marinated for 30 mins with lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, mixed herbs and parsley leaves; these 2 beauties were baked at 240 degrees celcius for 30 mins. Homecooked food is always the best!
Place was surprisingly empty for a Saturday afternoon; nonetheless I was eager to try the famed affordable steaks. Besides steak, they also have other meat dishes (pork and chicken) as well as pasta. Ordered the 200g tenderloin (black pepper sauce), medium, with apple walnut & potato salad for sides. The steak was cooked to more of a medium rare doneness, but i guess it was due to the thickness of the meat. Nonetheless, it was still delicious; tender and juicy even without the accompanying black pepper sauce. Was hoping for more of the sides though. One of my go to places for steak :)
First time trying Miam Miam after my colleague had a craving for it during lunch. Somehow it did not catch my attention the many times I was at Westgate. I had the spicy arrabiatta and it came with a free soup during weekday lunchtime. The portion was big; 2 person able to share this. Tastewise, I like the spiciness from the tomato based sauce but they could do with more of the meat for such a big portion. Most of the time I was eating just spaghetti and sauce. Not the best spaghetti bt the huge portion somewhat justifies the price.
An unassuming place to have a cup of coffee or tea and excellent cakes. We had the Belgian Indulgence, basically Belgian chocolate fudge cake. What I like abt this cake was the moist and rich chocolatey flavour, without being too sweet. In my opinion, it would go better with tea rather than coffee. They have different type of lava cakes as well, which will be for the return trip soon :)
Buttermilk Fried Chicken is a big thing in Clinton Street Baking Company's menu, where you can get it in several forms from a sandwich to even having it atop a Buttermilk Waffle. If you are looking for something less the carbs, you could perhaps decide on this Buttermilk Fried Chicken Plate which allows you to pick from several sides listed in the menu. We got ourselves the Sweet Potato Fries; thinly-cut but with the sweet earthy flavours evident with adequate seasoning in salt. Fried Chicken was well fried with a crispy batter but succulent and juicy skin without being oily, though it does not the accompanying Honey Tabasco dip to give it flavour; just think along the lines of spicy maple syrup. And that slaw was in fact creamy and crunchy, served cold; the way it should have been. Fried Chicken lovers would love this, though you might want to consider sharing it for each serving comes with three pieces; a tad huge to finish alone.
This is what happens when Chorizo, Tomatoes, Caramalised Onions, Scallions, melted Monterey Jack meet a scramble made of not one, not two, but three eggs?! This was breakfast fit for the King; fresh, slight runny eggs, with the tanginess of tomatoes, savouriness of the chunky chorizo they are so generous with a kiss of sweetness from the melted onions along with that sinful, gooey cheese atop, each slice of the scramble makes you yearn for more. Honestly there is no need for bread with this, and with so many eggs this would make for that power breakfast you WOULD need. It's so satisfying that it made my day and I wish to come back again just for it!
