We could see our Nicaragua La Virgen being brewed on the spot thanks to the open counter. The black coffee was pretty strong and acidic, with light notes of dried apricot and longan that came in the form of lightly roasted and fruity fragrance. It was supposed to have notes of milk chocolate too, but it didn’t come through in our opinion.

After rising to fame recently for its unique exterior and good quality coffee, it is not surprising to see a queue for the cafe despite its large seating area (both indoors and outdoors). For a modern and sophisticated feel, opt for the indoor seating. If you are more into the chill, laid back cafe setting, then you can choose to dine al fresco in their rustic courtyard.

After carefully mixing, the noodles were evenly coated with the sauces and were glistening with oil. The noodles were cooked to perfection - Al Dente, just how I like my noodles done. Compared to other wanton mees, Kok Kee’s sauces are on the sweeter side, and the oil that coated each strand of noodles gave it a fragrant aroma. My friends found it too oily for their liking. Well, to each his own.

Don’t be deceived by the sweet appearance of the lemon loaf just because it is topped with icing cream and petals. The sourness from the lemon hits you the moment it enters your mouth! Thanks to the fluffiness and the additional step of warming the cake, it melts in your mouth and allows for the flavour to kick in immediately. It was almost like eating cotton candy!

The salted egg yolk gravy that took up almost half of the plate, very generous with the serving! We finished every drop of that creamy sweet sauce. Very affordable at just $5.90!

The small and big bowl goes for $4.70 and $6.70 respectively. The ingredients are way more than normal! The soup base was also on the sweeter side, not peppery, which was a refreshing take, perfect for supper on a cold night.
