It was poached in aromatics for hours before being pan seared to lock in its flavour, the octopus was silky smooth and tender AF. Bathed in a tomato vodka sauce and peppered with Sicilian cherry tomato flavour bombs that literally exploded in your mouth this was the perfect appetitzer to kick off the meal. Granted it is a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth the occasional splurge. (8/10)
Located on the third floor of Fortune Centre, this shop selling tasty and affordable Japanese dishes is a popular lunch stop for many working or studying in the area. Burpple Tastemaker Amanda Liu adores the Salmon Mentai Don ($10) that comes with "generous slices of salmon and mentaiko lightly torched over a bed of Japanese rice", perfect for a quick lunch. Portions run small, but you can either upsize the bowl ($12) or fill up on other satisfying items. Order the wildly addictive Salmon Kama Karaage ($6) to share with a friend — the dish sees uncommonly used parts of the fish such as the fin. Alternatively, have the consistently good Pork Katsu Curry Rice ($7), one of the five varieties of curry available. The golden fried cutlet is placed atop a heap of rice with curry sauce on the side, so you can choose to either smother or dip.
Avg Price: $10 per person

Flat Iron Steak ($28)
This seasonal item only available from fri-sun (and still subject to availability) @southunionpark was definitely the highlight of the night. Super in ❤️ with this! Steak was like a flavour explosion with a very ideal fat and meat composition. The outside was nicely seared and overall the beef was bovinely divine😂. The chimichurri generously spreaded over the beef only served to summarize this beef dish as smashing! Even the pumpkin mash under the beef was great, helping to alleviate some beefiness while having a full flavour after absorbing all those meat juices!
Right in Blk 284 Bishan Street 22, there is a newly opened stall in the coffeeshop called "Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle" where they sell excellent noodles with fish maw soup ($8). The rich soup base is simmered overnight to get all the goodness from the pork bones. There is generous amounts of sliced pork, pork liver, dried sole fish (teepo), a spoonful of minced meat and egg served in the aromatic soup, with springy noodles tossed in chilli sauce. The fish maw they use are of better quality so you won't get that oily smell like those cheapo ones. Those teepo ... very wicked ... making every mouthful bursting with umami flavour!
Their bowl of BCM starts from $3.50 but I really suggest you to try the $8 fish maw soup version because it's damn solid. They also serve huge and juicy teochew dumplings. Good news is, this stall in Bishan opens 24 hours! Now I need to gather all my supper kakis to come back again! Faster go before it becomes long queue! #dontsaybojio
Affordable priced and comes with a chock full of ingredients from the refreshing chilled cucumber strips to chunks of that minced meat gravy. Before eating, do mix some of that chilli and chilli oil with the noodles for an even better flavour.
